Best known, not always used best

  • February 02, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that it's so available. Most colleges use it, and provide excellent training.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think it's more in how it's used than the product itself. Many organizations use it without providing support or the quick training tips instructors need most. Instead, they want instructors to go through many hours of training. Without it, Blackboard isn't as intuitive as it should be, but who has time for hours on hours? Training/tips should be focused on very specific skills and needs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Online learning, including discussions and collaboration.

Can be frustrating with submission resubmissions and setting up the gradebook.

Forum areas have made the online degree process much more user friendly and student incorporating.

Nice Interface, Needs more Introduction

  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that Blackboard is cloud-based and be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection. It makes accomplishing work and grading assignments very convenient. It is nice that it can hold so many different types of content such as videos, pdf, etc without having to leave the site.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think there needs to be a better introduction to Blackboard for first-time users. I found it rather difficult to navigate at first and took awhile to get used to. I found it difficult to find my notifications and dismiss them, I also have viewed notifications and found it hard to dismiss them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It makes grading student assignments very easy and allows for quick feedback. I feel like I can really communicate with them without being face to face.

It helped me obtain the degree that I use for my business.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
When typing up a long report or paper, type it in another program and copy/paste it to the correct field in Blackboard! I have lost hours worth of work by not doing this.

    E-Learning

Newer iterations are better

  • January 30, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The newest iteration of learn is the best yet, the have started to move away from java based programming which allows for better use for students who may not be technically savvy or have the access to their settings to modify.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be difficult to implement and when asking for a demo under an RFP they did not show their best or newest products. They also did not have the ability to do hierarchy of the system within systems.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Online learning at a state level and training for statewide staff.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ensure your contract includes everything that you want including consulting, implementation, and upgrades. They often said they could do things but failed to follow through.

User friendly and intuitive

What do you like best about the product?
One of the things I like best about Blackboard is that it is so widely used. That means that it's worth my while to get familiar with it, since almost any academic institution uses it. As an instructor, it's easy to post grades, send emails to individuals or the entire class, or post messages for the class. It's also easy to post material for the students.
What do you dislike about the product?
One thing that I dislike is that when a student emails me through Blackboard, I'm not able to reply to their email from Outlook. Instead, if I try to reply, it would send the message to Blackboard instead of the student. It's a minor inconvenience to either log into Blackboard and message the student back, or look up their university email to reply.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am able to post course material, communicate information to students, and post grades all in one place. Students find it easy to use.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's worth taking the time to learn the many features since Blackboard lets you do a lot of thing that are useful in teaching a class. Once you learn the organization on the home page, it's easy to find what you need.

  • Review verified by G2

You have the ability to have all courses in one central location and at easy access from a mobile or desktop device
What do you dislike about the product?
The app is clunky, there are no notifications that are pushed to your phone
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
ability to have all contacts and resources in one place. Ability to access rosters and emails quickly
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are primarily an app based user, you may have some difficulty since you cannot get to all the features on the app as you can on the desktop version

Good for School

  • January 28, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use. Simple layout that allows for unflavored navigation.
What do you dislike about the product?
It does crash with high user capacity, but perhaps more a server problem than software problem.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Allows for professors to easily interact with students.

Blackboard Learn Review - Higher Ed user

  • January 24, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Blackboard Learn was a great tool to keep grades, assignments, syllabi, and forums all in one space for students and teachers to use. I loved the forums feature where students could ask and answer questions outside of class with each other but it could also be used as a homework assignment.
What do you dislike about the product?
Blackboard Learn tended to be difficult to log into because my school forced us to change our login passwords every month. It would also occassionally stall but maybe the more updated versions have fixed thay bug.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Blackboard Learn allows the class and professors to connect outside of the classroom, whether for online classes, homework, or studying. It is a beneficial communication tool to enable users to connect from off campus, especially if they have hectic schedules or are commuters.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Blackboard is great for features like grading, question and answer discussions, and basic education management. It's simple features make it easy to use and understand. I would recommend making sure the password settings are consistent for your users and maybe give a brief training on how to use it.
