An awesome platform for hosting classes online
What do you like best about the product?
I've used other LMS' before and they were all confusing and convoluted. Blackboard was extremely easy to use and navigate.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the GUI. I feel that Blackboard's GUI is stuck in the 2000s, I would love a more modern design and better functionality on mobile devices.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We solved the problem with serving classes to distance learners with Blackboard. The benefits are many! We didn't have to develop an in-house solution!

What I like best is the way this software organizes the training courses for faculty and staff to attend various trainings.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing that dislike regarding Blackboard at FAMU.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The benefits that I have noticed is being able to have easy access to the various informative trainings.

The flexibility it offers is very helpful. I can train others, and do assessments on blackboard. I can track certifications and completions. Very helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
The design is okay and it does take time to get used to it. However once you learn it, the options are vast.

We are creating custom trainings and quizzes on blackboard

I like that one does not need a huge tutorial to use Blackboard. It’s pretty self-explanatory, even for those who aren’t very good with tech

The interface can always improve. When inputting grades, I can’t slide through all my assignments.

It allows me to easily communicate with my students.

Good even for tech novices.
A lot of features, but sometimes hard to find the relevant ones

There is a lot of built in functionality, e.g. quizzes that students can take and be automatically graded, commenting on assignments directly within the same portal that students submit in.
What do you dislike about the product?
All the functionality is sometimes really hard to make sense of. For instance, sometimes I cannot remember how to access a particular function. The UI is not the best, and you really have to dig through submenus sometimes to find what you are looking for.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Blackboard lets me keep track of assignments and grades for the class that I teach. It also lets me share readings and the syllabus with students.
Functional tool that could be more intuitive

The platform's group and discussion board functions make collaborative learning possible online.

The learning curve for instructors is high, the design could be more intuitive

I've only used the platform for online and hybrid instruction. I've used it to redesign a course to make it more interactive.

I appreciate the cleaner interface that has come with the 2017 releases.

Accessibility continues to be a problem, specifically with keyboard navigation throughout different components.

Blackboard is our LMS, so it mostly meets that need. Their apps are improving as development moves forward.

Be aware that the roadmap is often delayed.

What do you like best about the product?
The best part of Blackboard is the user friendly platform, everything is neatly laid out. Finding your syllabus, your modules, your grades is very intuitive.
What do you dislike about the product?
Notifications, I receive notifications for everything, whether someone posted on the discussion board or someone posted a job.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Business problem, is related to curriculum and content and benefit is communication and ease of use for interaction.

Blackboard beats the competition - hands down. I've used this software for over 3 years as a student as well as teaching assistant.
They constantly improve the software. It's very fluid. Grading is a breeze.
The interface is decently easy to use but you can miss some updates if you don't check it very often

It is only as good as the instructor who sets it up.
blackboard is easy to use, but if the instructor is not computer savvy (or lazy) then you can have a difficult time using the software.
