Blackboard Learning Management System

  • December 13, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Blackboard stores everything together and is easy to navigate.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some students still struggle with not knowing where to find things. Some things like email have multiple locations on Blackboard and students get confused.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We can easily manage grades, faculty information, class information, student profiles, etc.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Blackboard has many features that are not fully utilized. We were just starting to understand and use all aspects of reporting and data analysis.

We use a customized blackboard page for academic classes and other instructional material.

What do you like best about the product?
My favorite part about the blackboard system is the access to instructional material that it provides. Our university recently switched management systems from TimeClockPlus to Workday and there have been quite a few hiccups as a result. However, I was added to a Finance and Business Concierge organization on the page and they regularly upload videos and written material on how to carry out certain processes. This is convenient because they are able to upload content to multiple users simultaneously rather than attempting to send out the many many items via email.
What do you dislike about the product?
My biggest problem with Blackboard is the difficulty in navigating the system. While the notifications screen is quite simple, every other page is confusing when it comes to getting where you need to go. It will be three or four clicks before you even get to a class homepage and three or four more to submit or upload a document.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The largest benefit of blackboard is the the ability to create groups. This allows certain offices to ensure that information is widespread and reaches all professional staff employees in a timely manner. All you need is an internet connection and you are set in regards to what you need to know.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are considering using Blackboard, I would suggest that you not try to use it beyond its capability. It is an excellent tool for spreading information to large groups of people but is not so useful as an interactive platform.

Blackboard for synchronous learning

  • December 13, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
BlackBoard has a good selection of tools to use to engage and get feedback from students. I find the lay out fo rthe moderator easy to navigate. The polling and break out room features are especially helpful in fostering active participation from students (and the instructor!).
What do you dislike about the product?
I do find navigating through more than one open window/room tricky because the dashboard is such a limited configuration. With a large group of students, it can be difficult to keep up with comments or feedback becasuse you can't expand the dashboard window beyond the length of the page.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Blackboard has helped Princeton Review to connect with more students at convenient times. I think with current college and high school students, the online environment is a familiar and friendly place. I have very few students who ask questions about how to navigate through the classroom and provide feedback because it is so intuitive. Blackboard has made a positive student experience in most eery case.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be sure to learn and understand all the features that Blackboard has to offer. Some features aren't immediately obvious to use (like desktop sharing) but can add tremedously to the user experience.

Blackboard is great for collaboration

  • December 13, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the ability to work with others through the platform. Something that was sorely missing in other competitors.
What do you dislike about the product?
The upload feature is a bit clunky and doesn't always take all file types/sizes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This is mainly used on the academic side of our company, so it helps students interact with each other and with faculty.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure whatever platform you're looking at works specifically for your organization. All too often, a large solution will be implemented that doesn't quite meet the requirements of everyone, and causes some users to jump ship or create their own workarounds.

Easy Tool to Use

  • December 13, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
There is no tutorial needed to learn how to use it. It is fairly simple and easy to use. There is a way that you can display all of the different documents that makes it easy for students to navigate as well as a grade book that you can update and the students can see in their own home.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes folders do not load correctly causing confusing for students and professors alike. Sometimes the grading methods are different from professor to professor and this can cause confusing for some of the students, so if there was a space above grade book to explain scale that would also be helpful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
You can easily post grades, documents, and quizzes for all of your students to see and access at any given point.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Using this product can help you with simple questions students may have as well as making it to where less students come by your office because of a need for documents

Best LMS System

  • December 13, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Blackboard has a variety of features that will allow educators to improve learner engagement. What I like most being an advisor is the collaboartion suite that keeps my learners connected. It is a central location where I can keep track of and control all activities going on, whether they be educational, career coaching based, or just resources and tools that will help my students reach their potential.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's difficult for my students to navigate. The most common complaint from my students associated with Blackboard is that they never know where anything is. While there are specific tabs and folders, each instructor has the ability to do store information in a different manner or under different tabs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Blackboard is where our students access their online courses, it is where we store our career information, webinars, resources, etc. It is excellent for social learning - our online students often feel disconnected and the discussion board is where we can engage with them and collaborate.

Blackboard: online classroom management

  • December 13, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Convenient way of distributing materials to students, receiving homework submissions, promoting discussions in forums. It can be accessed on smart devices too. The Blackboard collaborate tool can be used for team projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't have any dislikes regarding the platforms itself, but how much the platform gets used and is leveraged really depends on the personal initiative of the professor
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
By using Blackboard I have access to an educational platform for sharing materials with students, collecting project submissions, and providing additional reading materials and links. Students can also track and review the grades on their assignments. I find that team projects are more effective when students connect through the Blackboard collaborate tool, which is especially useful for commuter students.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for a complete educational platform, you should check Blackboard out. It is user-friendly, can be used on mobile and smart devices, and is easy to use. It has a lot of features and I like having all the course materials available in a convenient location. Feedback from students has been overall positive: they like having access to all documentation and be able to track their grades easily.

Reliable for Courses

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love that Blackboard is intuitive enough for students, teachers, and admins to all use the functions they need.
What do you dislike about the product?
Needs a lot of updates, says it's on hold overnight, so we can't burn the midnight oil
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dispersing courses in an easy manner to cut down on emailing content

A very user friendly program

  • December 13, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to navigate, a lot of options for the type of information shared
What do you dislike about the product?
Doesn't necessarily have a modern look to it but that is not that big of a deal
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is used for regular classes as well as employee training
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Blackboard fits a wide variety of uses, works very well for online classes. It is user friendly and doesn't require much training for a user to start navigating it right away.

Blackboard with Students

  • December 13, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Blackboard is a fairly intuitive platform for classroom interaction. Blackboard allows for discussions, postings uploading, file sharing, test administration, grading and more. I am able to provide access at different levels and load information at my convenience to be opened at set dates and time. It truly can be a one stop shop for classroom/class management.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some features are clunky. For example, there is a feature to grade essays within blackboard. It is very difficult to make suggestions for grammar, spelling, punctuation within the feature. There are rules with naming test features such as only using letters and numbers and some other features that are just cumbersome. It is a great that there are so many different things I can do with Blackboard but at the same time for some of my students with less familiarity with technology, it is overwhelming.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Blackboard enables me to collect all my students' assignments, grade those assignments, provide feedback, share handouts and lesson materials and grade assignments. Students have access to information on demand (as long as I have provided it). I am able to provide full access or partial access; I can load information and set the opening time; I am able to see when and how often students are working on assignments.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I worked with a number of students who are not tech savvy and Blackboard can be overwhelming. We did have an orientation module but for some students no matter how often we went through steps, they would be overwhelmed by all the choices. In general, these were my more non-traditional students whose earlier classroom experiences did not include technology.
