Blackboard Review from Student

  • September 05, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Blackboard is a relatively easy interface to use
What do you dislike about the product?
It is a bit outdated. Things don't flow as well as they could. It would be nice for a major overhaul.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is a great online education system, the communication is easy with it.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Blackboard is a great system, but there are others like it unfortunately. Some other softwares and products offer things that Blackboard simply doesn't.

Updates needed

What do you like best about the product?
I like that all my class material can be in one area.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's very dated, not appealing to the eye, and just not easy to use. Too many folders and I find my self searching for thing more often then knowing where to navigate.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
youncan have live teaching, or if you missed a class the content would still be ready avaialabe for you. Although, that is only if the professor updates normally.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make it more user friendly and easier to navigate.

Gets the job done

  • August 22, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to put in grades, send out messages to students, post assignments, etc. My students also submit their assignments through Blackboard, which makes it easy to do grading. I also like that Blackboard can check student work for plagiarism.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's not very aesthetically appealing and I often find a discrepancy in the two grade columns that calculate the final grade. I also do not like that my view is quite different from the students and that students seem to have to hit submit a few times to actually submit their work. As a result, I often get students who think they submitted an assignment, but they missed one click.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Blackboard is our learning management system. It makes it really easy to collect assignments from students, and is also a great piece in finding and preventing plagiarism. Just the threat of knowing that Blackboard checks their work for plagiarism makes the vast majority of students far too afraid to try doing it.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you know how to use a computer, it's pretty easy to use. I find that the user interface isn't all that appealing, but I think your institution's IT department can change this. Also, be careful about grade calculations and make sure you double check the accuracy.

Blackboard is slightly intimidating at first but actually a great product.

What do you like best about the product?
Blackboard is easy to navigate. The overall look and feel of the site is great. The app is also really helpful. My favorite aspect of Blackboard is the ability to customize the settings and pages.
What do you dislike about the product?
In the beginning I remember feeling confused by Blackboard. I think they could have a better tutorial for new users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Blackboard allows professors to customize their pages with the aspects most important to them. It's not a "one size fits all" motto; however, it is nonetheless organized and easy to navigate.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I found it easier to use and all around better than other products with a similar purpose. I would recommend using it if you're trying to appeal to a large amount of people because it has good learnability.

Good LMS for Education

  • August 15, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Blackboard is a complete LMS that is best suited for traditional educational institutions... mainly higher ed. They system supports most types of eLearning content and activities and offers several options for grading, social interaction, and system integration.
What do you dislike about the product?
I believe Blackboard has become a bit bloated over its years on the market and can be less intuitive than some of the newer LMS options. Many of the instructors that I worked with had a difficult time learning to use the system, even if they had prior knowledge of working with an LMS. I do not believe this issue is as relevant from the student side.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Blackboard supported online and hybrid learning for the college. It was accessible from anywhere and allowed students to participate outside of a traditional classroom. It also allowed for the collection of grades at the end of each semester.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Blackboard is the BIG name in the LMS space for institutional education, so it is more than likely on your radar. It might be the perfect fit, but make sure to evaluate it against some of the newer LMS solutions out there to see how it stacks up.

Using blackboard as a professor

  • August 10, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love how Blackboard makes immediate changes. I can literally update course materials during class and my students can see it in real time. I also make assessments on Blackboard. These are relatively intuitive and it's nice that students can take assessments on their own time and grades will be posted directly to the gradebook.
What do you dislike about the product?
Formatting - I wish it was easier to get my courses and assessments to look nice. Formatting takes a lot of effort, so I don't usually use that feature. Gradebook - it's really difficult to scroll through the grade book. Also, it's nearly impossible on a Mac to use the gradebook interface.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Blackboard makes communication with users really simple.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Easy to use and great for communicating with students. The gradebook is hard to see and formatting is too onerous.

Good basic classroom option

  • August 08, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that I can prep multiple pages, skip between pages, hide pages, and show pages as I want. I like that I can take a "picture" of anything on my desktop or online to immediately pull into my classroom. I also like utilizing the screen sharing tool as needed.
What do you dislike about the product?
Although the screen sharing tool is nice, there can be quite the lag in what I'm sharing if the other person's computer or internet is not ideal. There are "glitches" at times where my camera, which has worked for several hours, suddenly won't work if I turn if off and then on again. I have to restart my entire computer to make it work, and Blackboard sends an error message to itself.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Blackboard to provide online therapy to students and to meet with team members and students' parents. It's a great way to video conference multiple people at once and share things in real time.

Blackboard

  • July 31, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the organization of Blackboard, the setting options that are available for discussion boards, and the ability to add LTI's to your course. You are also able to manipulate the color scheme of Blackboard to customize it and make it fit with your organization. There is a date management tool that allows you to change all of the dates in the course with one click, instead of having to individually change all dates for assignments/quizzes/activities.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a LOT going on with Blackboard, so sometimes things aren't easy to find or locate. Sometimes you have to manipulate activities in a way in order to make them work correctly. It is also hard to track user activity. We've had experiences where the only way we could test something/or check out a situation is logging in as a specific student. We don't have these permissions with Blackboard. This may be due to the administration rights provided by the school, but I am not positive. Another thing is that sometimes odd things will happen in Blackboard courses, that don't happen in other blackboard courses (when we copy content from one course to another) and it's difficult to figure out the reason why.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are bringing online education to schools with Blackboard. The benefit is that it is simple to learn and to use, and generally simple to teach to others. Students seem to be able to navigate Blackboard simply, and you can change the name of links to help them know exactly where to go. Blackboard allows a lot of customization that helps organize the course and enhance the learning experience.
