Student and Professor review of Blackboard

  • July 25, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Blackboard has a very nice interface when it comes to grading and connecting pdf files. The discussion board feature is also extremely easy to use and reply to other students.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is a web-based only platform in a time when more and more students are going mobile. Blackboard does not work on iPad or iPhone or any mobile device, even when using a web browser, there are often many issues when trying to scroll down or writing more than a typical box response on Blackboards discussion or written assignments.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have been using Blackboard to reach my students and help my class in a community college become more paperless.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are going to use Blackboard, make sure you survey your student population first to identify if students would feel comfortable using this type of product.

Blackboard Review

What do you like best about the product?
I am also a graduate student on top of working for a university. So, I have experience in using BlackBoard in both capacities. I think as a student it is very user friendly and allows discussion with classmates when we aren't in class. As a professional it makes it easy to keep up on training required for work.
What do you dislike about the product?
That I have to pay for the app. I won't do that, I just log in on my browser on my phone. It would be nice for the app to be free.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It keeps us all connected and ensure we stay up to date on trainings such as Title 9.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a great product and seems to be on par with other products in the field.

Excellent to use at school

What do you like best about the product?
I love that my classes show up there and the ease of using it to upload homework and have class discussions for my online classes, also in those discussions we can answer to someone else question right away. It is also great when it comes to test, the time bar shows at all times, to know exactly how much time you have left to submit the test, and you get your test grade right away. It is very easy to work with, and most teachers are very familiar with it. I like being able to check my grades instead of having to wait to be in class to hear it from the teacher. I also like to use it for work, we can register for some staff developments through there and see what will be about.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't dislike anything. I just wish some teacher would have more training, but it's not very hard to get used to it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The benefits are that I can use it either as a student or staff from the college. My log in is the same as either and all of my information is neatly separated from student and staff.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is great for communication and class discussions. And great to know you GPA in each class because you get to see your grades right away and all together.

Blackboard Review

What do you like best about the product?
I think that Blackboard is a tremendous resource for students and faculty alike. I have been using Blackboard for about four years now and I have seen a lot of improvements over that time alone. I think that the company does a great job of allowing customization for each user and also adapts to the students needs and demands.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do not like the mobile application. While it is convenient, you can not access the same information easily nor can you go back and forth between sections easily. I use the application to check announcements and grades but it does not do much for me beyond that.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Blackboard allows for great communication and interaction between the user and the administrator. I highly recommend to any users.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think that Blackboard should focus more on the growth of the mobile application and learn more about integrating that software into the usage and development of modern technology.

What do you like best about the product?
The interface is easy to use and there are a lot of options.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it's difficult to find things when they change the layout, and it seems to go down for maintenance quite a bit.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
No business problems. Benefits are that this is used between students and faculty, as well as for staff training and development.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It can be really useful across the organization.

Excellent way to interact with your classes

  • June 27, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Blackboard's interface is easy to use and fairly standard from institution to institution. For students, the layout couldn't be more simple and to the point; and for instructors and administrators the customization tools help give class and department pages a personal touch without throwing students for a loop.

The mobile app also makes the Blackboard experience so much easier to interact with classes on the go and allow for students and professors to stay in touch without the need for bulky laptops and the need to search for wifi while out and about.
What do you dislike about the product?
The discussion boards feature could use some fine tuning. Internet Explorer and it's successor Microsoft Edge don't play well with the editing tools and often show correctly spelled words as misspelled and make it almost nearly impossible to fix on the users end.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Students enjoy Blackboard for it's ease of use and our professors and admins love it because of the wonderful grade book and submission features as well as the direct messaging and student database features; which help our professors do almost all of their class related work within the app itself.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I've seen other academic software, it doesn't beat Blackboard, not in the slightest. You owe it to your students and employees to give them a one-stop shop that works for them and not against them. Your students pay so much for classes and your instructors give their all day in and day out to teach; why would you give them sub-par software that's hard to use, requires training and re-training and no mobile apps?

Mediocre for higher education applications

  • June 10, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Not much. Fairly decent flexibility with setting up materials within the course. However some tools are not very intuitive. Heavy integration of major publisher tools (McMillan/PrenticeHall)...but I do not use much publisher content in higher education courses.
What do you dislike about the product?
Poor workflow...sometimes multiple clicks to accomplish minor task, not always the same process to edit student access to tools/content. Course templates are juvenile. Use of some tools not very intuitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Problem is delivering online content while preserving student interaction and engagement. Still working on it.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use for one full year of course delivery to fully appreciate what you like/do not like before fully committing to system.

What do you like best about the product?
I like how everything for the courses we offer can be put on blackboard and be accessible to our long-distance learners.
What do you dislike about the product?
It sometimes is very slow and can really use an update.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Long-distance students can now do everything for their classes online through Blackboard and don't have to struggle to get to the campus in person.

I'm glad we switched to Canvas

What do you like best about the product?
The LMS got the job done. Students were able to check attendance and grades, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
It didn't get the job done well--students were rarely motivated to use Blackboard, especially with features that should have thrived on an online LMS environment such as discussion boards.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Students like having access to information. They didn't particularly like the program, however.
