Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are in need of a database , but still using outdated technologies like SQL server which can still has its limitation while processing large data sets ( in excess of 10-15 million rows) across 50+ tables, Vertica can be a great tool to process this information and bring out key insights and do analytics on the data. The power of analaytics is only as good as how fast you can process the data and how quick the results come in .
Wonderful experience with the scalable data warehouse
What do you like best about the product?
Elasticity, Use of S3 as the storage, simple to use interface for monitoring and management.
What do you dislike about the product?
Lack of in-built load balancing for vertical cluster.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Querying large amount of data quickly and effectively by multiple users simultaneously.
Review on Vertica Technology
What do you like best about the product?
The best about Vertica is it has 99.99% availability and 100% consistency. It has got powerful tools like Vertica Backup and Restore utility which helps recover single table or schema or cluster from past backup images. The most admirable is its K Safe Feature due to which it helps maintain the consistency among the nodes. If a node goes down it does automatic sync as well. It also has Database Designer which will help you tune your SQLs and suggest optimized projections. To add icing to the case it has management console its GUI interface as well which helps you monitor multiple clusters using the same GUI . It has got nice online support as well in case of issues.
The incidents of cluster down specifically to the projects I support had gone down 100% . If one node goes down still due to Ksafe feature your entire cluster remains up and available to the business. Over all on personal grounds a very reliable and useful products that any Organization can rely on.
Note : This is my genuine personal opinion only for the product I have worked hence the candid feedback.

What do you dislike about the product?
About its upgrade path and just supporting 1 release backward compatibility if you upgrade your cluster.
Also cross environment restores for the cluster having different names but same nodes restores should be made possible that are having different names. So entire snap can be restored.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
100% cluster availability issue is resolved. Maintenance down time is reduced. Also business functions are executing per expectations.

Over all a good product worth it for the money you spent.
Vertica for enterprise data warehouse
What do you like best about the product?
Super fast when queries are optimized. Excellent support.
What do you dislike about the product?
You must take care for lot of details for optimized use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We integrated data from various transaction systems and Vertica made it possible on very efficient way. It has very good integration with Informatica Power center as etl tool and with IBM Cognos and Tableau as reporting tools.
Vertica has excellent support and you can always find lot of resources on their web site.
I would recommend for data warehouse database if you have lot of data and many parallel users. It has very good user management for managing database resources across users in organisation. It also allows integration with active directory.
It has lot of embedded analytic functions but if it is needed you can build your own functions using Python or other programming languages.
It is scalable so if your data grows you can easily extent storage and processing power.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Vertica is one of best analytics databases.
Scalable, high-speed database on commodity hardware
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to grow a database in either compute or storage with commodity hardware is very valuable. No other database comes to mind for speed of inserts or selects at this scale.
What do you dislike about the product?
The documentation has improved over the years but there is less information than some competitors. There aren't as many users of this database products compared to others so the community is somewhat lacking.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Vertica solves the problem of storing petabytes worth of data while actually being able to join across datasets in a timely manner. This allows for discoveries that couldn't be made otherwise.
It leverages machine learning and predictive analytic features to help preprocess data
The primary use case is as an analytics database on EC2 instances.
How has it helped my organization?
* We gain insights into data in real-time with blazing, fast SQL analytics across exabytes of data.
* It maximizes cloud economics with Eon Mode by scaling cluster size to meet variable workload demands.
* It leverages machine learning and predictive analytic features to help preprocess data.
What is most valuable?
It maximize cloud economics for mission-critical big data analytical initiatives.
What needs improvement?
It needs integration with multiple clouds.
For how long have I used the solution?
One to three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I have implemented it on Amazon EC2 instances with medium IT workloads.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It has an elastic scalability solution.
How was the initial setup?
It is easy to integrate with EC2 instances.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is fast to purchase through the AWS Marketplace.
The pricing and licensing depend on the size of your environment and the zone where you want to implement.
What other advice do I have?
It is a complete solution and a also good solution for EC2 instances.
