An all in one backup software
What do you like best about the product?
The console. It is very easy to manage and schedule daily, weekly, monthly and yearly backups. Very easy to view and configure backup jobs, tape libraries, and disks.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the software becomes unresponsive due to a load of backups running at the same time. This only happens during the weekly/monthly backup windows otherwise it runs fine.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Backup and restore of many applications such as MS Exchange, Active Directory, SAP and file system backups. These are the core areas for which we wanted our data to be backed up and Veitas is the solution.
Veritas Backup Exec is a very good software
What do you like best about the product?
Veritas Backup Exec software helps the average user to achieve professional data backup because it is simple to install and easy to maintain.
What do you dislike about the product?
Its advantage is precisely its biggest disadvantage, and troubleshooting is difficult to start.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Fast backups of files, virtual machines, and databases can be achieved without the need for very specialized knowledge.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is recommended for individuals or small and medium-sized enterprises.
A Must for On-Premise Backups
What do you like best about the product?
Backup Exec has been the core backup solution for over 20 years for our on-prem environment. There have been some rough years with the software, esp when Symantec had control, however, Veritas and the Backup Exec team have worked hard to retain loyal customer support. There is no other software development team that takes their customer complaints as seriously as Backup Exec's team. They engage with their customers before large releases to gauge community reaction and adjust accordingly. The software has been rock solid since about 2015-2016. Most of the times we had issues with backups were due to corrupt/infected files and/or the network setup in general.
It is easy to install, and if set up in a clean, stable environment is a great tool for disaster recovery. This is the only software we have found that will allow for 'forever' backups, aka, it doesn't squish your backups to where data can be lost over the years.

What do you dislike about the product?
The thing I dislike about the product is the same thing we have always struggled with, and that's the changing of the licensing structure. The capacity licensing was a great tool, and now it is being replaced not a couple of years later, and it's always such a weird adjustment because that's usually the other time that the backup environment becomes unstable.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data loss due to insider and outsider threats are the biggest issues we have to deal with. Backup Exec can be a time saver for admins that understand how to care for a complex environment.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you understand how much data you will be backing up, and how much money you want to put into the media to back up those files.
Backup Exec is a Legend
What do you like best about the product?
One single console for Physical, Virtual or cloud workloads
What do you dislike about the product?
It would be good to have Backup exec Linux version and appliance version, with all in one bundle
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Backup Exec resolves problems like tape media backup or disk backups, deduplication, quick restore from images etc
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I recommend this product for Regular backup and recovery of data
Hard to learn, easy to use, wide range of capabilities.
What do you like best about the product?
Once the system is set up, the usage is straightforward and reliable. There is seldom need for a user to monitor the system. The software allows for wide range of backup scenarios.
What do you dislike about the product?
For a novice user, the UI is complex, multi-faceted and can be intimidating - if not overwhelming. The learning curve is long, but in the end, manageable.
In terms of functionality, the biggest drawback in our use case is, that if a VMware virtual server (a file server) has very large amount of data (several Terabytes) stored on non-system disks (D:\, E:\, etc.), the VMware agent attempts to make a Snapshot of the entire data mass with all disks. This can make the snapshot prohibitively large, as it will have to fit in the VMware storage, where such amount of free space may not exist.
It should be possible to have the Snapshot be created only from the virtual machine System disk (C:\) and leave data disks out of the Snapshot.
Large data disks can be separately backed up on agent-based Backup Job, often with a different schedule than the parent virtual machine itself.
