Connections Is Great...but...

What do you like best?
The interconnectivity is amazing. I use Activities to plan just about every aspect of my week. We are a Lotus notes shop and the plugins are fantastic to seamlessly run from email to connections and vis versa.
What do you dislike?
Mobile app is cumbersome and too different from the full website for users to enjoy. Minor bugs have created performance issues. Additionally there are those minor issues that you run in to when using pieces daily - i.e. Assigning an activity to multiple people.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
We are connecting our global enterprise for knowledge sharing and task management. We have seen an uptick in the satisfaction and 'one team' idea since it is so easy to document interactions.

On it's way to becoming a great platform.

What do you like best?
IBM as a technology and a company has built a robust suite of products to meet user needs. Connections can be integrated into it's other technologies, and those who really understand all the intertwined elements can be very successful.
What do you dislike?
The platform is missing a few key elements:
1: Customizable user experience: User experience is average but does not allow for customization (without heavy development not suitable for upgrades) beyond the header which can make it difficult to configure for a company's specific needs.
2. Advanced notifications: The system doesn't currently allow you to @ mention users or personalize notifications on a granular level.
3. File management: Dependent upon which document management solution is used, it can be missing previews and editing controls, critical functionality when using as a collaboration platform.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Our clients are using Connections for internal collaboration. They've had several business units able to work more effectively through the platform.

What do you like best?
It's a comprehensive suite of applications.
What do you dislike?
Difficult to administer. No GUI interface. WAS needs a restart for simple changes.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Many branch office. Need to bridge the community gap.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Find the problem that needs solving rather than shoe horn a solution into it.

The reputation the IBM is less valuable than Microsoft products when this product has more to offer than Sharepoint.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Connecting our existing SQL based portal to Connections and IBM Notes for a more integrated user experience.
