Most light weight database.

  • May 13, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Light weight, takes less space, can be used for any application, with new workbench it's even easier to use even for a person with limited knowledge of DB. you don't have to remember all the queries now because of that.It makes our life easier for taking data dump or execute data migration projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
doesn't have inbuilt integration tool where as few other DB support that.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use MYSQL for our internal database, also use it as a data store to upload data for data migration projects. as it's light weight it takes less space in our server. We maintain our entire user details in mysql along with that our entire Database schema is designed on mysql. you can completely restructure your query in mysql.
As you optimize problematic queries, your goal should be to find alternative ways to get the result you want—but that doesn’t necessarily mean getting the same result set back from MySQL. You can sometimes transform queries into equivalent forms and get better performance. However, you should also think about rewriting the query to retrieve different results, if that provides an efficiency benefit. You may be able to ultimately do the same work by changing the application code as well as the query. In this section, we explain techniques that can help you restructure a wide range of queries and show you when to use each technique.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I definitely recommend to use mysql if your organization is mid size or under small category. However, MYSQL can handle heavy duty operation like any other Database in the market in your day to day operation.

Great to use for data management

  • May 06, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use the database with a lot of quick management. It’s a great site to use in that it has a lot of great features in managing the data. My favorite feature is sorting and transforming data into another quantitative site.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be instable at times. Also the licensing is a bit hard to get verify sometimes. It’s somewhat high in price but worth it if you have a larger company and need a huge database. Also, you can share the licensing on other desktops.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I’ve been able to manage data efficiently and faster. It’s helped my workflow be more smoother. Also, I’ve been able to take on more tasks and conduct higher quality reviews. It’s made me life easier and bosses happier.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it and you can get rid of it if you don’t like it. There are many features that we don’t use so it isn’t as useful but there might be something you need.

MySQL is best database to work with open source solutions. We are easily able to setup MySQL for our PHP and python based websites. Making connection to MySQL is very easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
MySQL is fast and robust database. It uses a number of modules to connect with PHP and manage the database content.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
MySQL is mainly used with the custom based PHP and python websites in our company. We develop websites for the clients and design DB schema using MySQL.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
MySQL is good for open source projects.

MySQL works well for the database that I have

  • March 31, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We have an application that uses MySQL on the back end. Since using it I have started to migrate some of my other databases to MySQL. Previously our databases were in Access or MSSQL There is some syntax differences but it does everything I need.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do a lot of integration with PowerShell. This isn't as much of an issue with MySQL as it is with windows updates but I recently had to change a lot of PowerShell scripts because the driver that I was using is seen as a security issue. I have fixed it by using the ODBC connection in windows but it was annoying to change.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have an application that requires lists of employees usernames as well as employee numbers. I can get everything out of active directory easy enough but this other software will easily integrate with Oracle, MSSQL, and MySQL. My solution was to create a simple table in MySQL that keeps a list of employee names, usernames and employee numbers. It works flawlessly with my script that creates accounts for new employees I update and maintain that table in MySQL
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I use it because it came with DocuWare. From there I simply added tables that would make things easy and beneficial to me. As with any good software it will be what you make it.

SQL with MySQL

  • March 26, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I started my SQL journey with Oracle in college - but later I used MySQL products - it is much simpler!
And that's what I like about it.
(Note: in 2006 it was not owned by oracle)
What do you dislike about the product?
Support/Implementation of JSON in 5.X community versions and the difficulty to use GeoJSON/Spatial-data features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Storing and processing relational data.
Benefits: Ease of usage, presence of community support. Documentation/Guide
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Go ahead! use without hesitation.

Free database with a lot of potential

  • March 13, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
MySQL is a free and open source database manager. Its installation is fast and we can find it merged with other software such as XAMP or WAMP. The main advantage is that it behaves like the rest of SQL databases in general, but its storage capacity as information increases is significantly reduced. Another advantage of MySQL is that it connects to almost all programming languages, since being free is a very good option to test in development and avoid buying licenses that are not necessary.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is very limited in high availability aspects and in handling large volumes of information without taking into account the techniques that can help to better manage the information. I do not like that your official site redirects to the Oracle page, although you are the owner of MySQL, I think you should provide both the ODBC and the database installer from the same website without the need to redirect us to the manufacturer page.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It has helped me connect various programming languages to have my data persistence layer. I have used it with C ++, C #, Java, Python, Ruby on Rails, NodeJS. Its operation is very good and very fast. It does not need large configurations to more than one user with permissions and password. Its connection is very transparent and its performance is very good in a development environment.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try MySQL for your developments, it is a free option and easy to implement. You can do different tests to see what its maximum performance is.
