A Student Perspective
What do you like best about the product?
I currently use MySQL in a project that I am working on as a primary data store. It is fast, simple, and definitely one of the best open-source databases available.
What do you dislike about the product?
Personally, I (not too much) dislike SQL/relational databases, but that is just my lack of experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Creating complex database models using a relational database, MySQL triumphs in my use case over SQLite 3 and PostgreSQL

cheap relational and an option to use sql fir nosql usecase
MySQL is very simple to use, and usually very fast
What do you like best about the product?
MySQL is very simply to install and use, and it's performance is very fast when you do a select query.
What do you dislike about the product?
MySQL is becoming slower when the count of records in a table is becoming very huge.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
we use MySQL behind app whose select querys are more often than write querys.
Fast Scalable Open Source DB Solution
What do you like best about the product?
Open source, lots of community support and tooling available. Fast, easy to setup and start

Most things are likable about this database. It might be a bit of a challenge to get up and running at times, however a lot of support is there
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it as the data repository for many websites, and in house applications to solve business problems

I would recommend this to others as it's easy to use and install. Is robust and open source and has a thriving community behind it

sql has been around for quite some time with little changes, this makes it easy to grow with the products

there ins't much that I dislike about the products except for the support that is provided
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
there are no problems that we have with MySQL, benefits are that new employees or users to sql programming there is little learning issues

Saviour of Open Source DB - MySQL
What do you like best about the product?
Very first thing, Its a freeware. Very user friendly, Not much complications in handling the Database and its administration. GUI is so attractive.
What do you dislike about the product?
Limitations in the DB Size which we getting maintained. Maintenance of the DB will fail sometimes and it is little bit difficult to troubleshoot why it is getting failed also.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Web Gateway for catering the internet needs for our user, The logs from the webgateway needs some robust DB to analyze it as reports. We are using MySQL for that purpose. Because of that all the Logs from the Web Gateway is getting stored into that DB and reports are being generated from that. The best thing is When we are struggling for licenses, it helped us on time
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Whoever wishes to go for robust open source DB in place of MSSQL they can go for MySQL.
Easy to use, intuitive.
What do you like best about the product?
Create and drop tables with ease, wizard is really helpful yet a tad bit limited but aren't all wizards are? The fact that you can have it plugged with tons of report plugins, reports are coming out with a nice and fancy layout as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
User interface, too 90 for everyone's taste. Yet we only need that to do a few querys, the rest will go to addons/plugins we use to print reports and present the data to their respective departments in a way they can understand.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have the entire data for payroll payments, bonus, stipends among others in our data base and it has been running solidly and accurately for years. We are talking about more than 8,000 employees, and it keeps running flawlessly.

We had used the free version which came integrated in our point of sale software

Slow performance related to indexing can occur more frequently in the free version

No need to license full SQL because MySQL met the needs of our stores
