Great inexpensive database option
What do you like best about the product?
Inexpensive (or free) relational database option depending on your support needs. Most of the functionality you find in enterprise DB solutions like Oracle and SQL Server
What do you dislike about the product?
Good for small projects and back-end needs for basic customer UI's, but not good for more enterprise level database needs
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use MySQL as the backend for most of our 3rd party tools that require a basic relational database backend.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you understand the support options for MySQL and whether it fits your needs if you have a significant number of busy users
Best Relational Database software that is also opensource
What do you like best about the product?
Its free to use and the ability to sync it to Excel, Amazon cloud storage etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing that I can think of. Its pretty easy to use and learn
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have created a historical database for our data and use queries frequently to pull reports.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This is a must use software for beginners learning SQL and also for startups if they don't have a huge budget for other paid database softwares
A lightweight yet powerful RDBMS for those who want to stick with Linux based systems
What do you like best about the product?
Its simplicity to manage, open source features. Popularly used in most Linux based application stacks as LAMP foundation
What do you dislike about the product?
its security feature. Someone with Linux root access can alter data seamlessly
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Most open source based application demands are based on LAMP stack in which MySql is a key component
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If someone wants to stick with Linux and open source, MySql is a good choice for relational database management
Great tool for retrieving data and creating productivity reports
What do you like best about the product?
I like the ease of use of the system, being a first time user and having little to no knowledge of mysql, the way the system allows me to learn and navigate through the tables and find information is not complicated and easy to adapt.
What do you dislike about the product?
we currently using an old version of the software (discontinued), i would like to experience with the most up to date version of it but based on the needs of the business this is not a must, if anything at all that would be my only dislike, not being able to be up-to-date with the database software client
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main use for MySQL is to gather information and use that to create reports via Crystal Reports software for internal and external use. It also allows us to analyze data on live transactions done in our office and verify that information was written properly to the tables and we have accurate information.
Lean, fast and easy to get along with
What do you like best about the product?
Having used Microsoft SQL predominantly learning to use MySql took no time at all.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not a lot to dislike, just isn't as well used as Micro SQL
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Databasing, used for data capture
MySQL: Best open source DB
What do you like best about the product?
Best thing about MySQL is, It's quite easy to install and use. By using some third party tools you can make it even more cooler. e.g. mk-query-digest & mydumper. Recently, it has gained more popularity as it's being used by loads of major corporations like Twitter, Alibaba, Amazon etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Most of the people things it's free, but it's quite expensive too. Which depends on for what you are planning to use it for. It could range from FREE to $15K+.
It somehow lacks in scaling, when it's forced to do too many operations at given time.
I don't know why MySQL is trying to do everything, which it should not. It's dependency on Addons sometimes makes task complex and hard to track and maintain.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Personally, i have used MySQL in development of several Web & desktop based application. Additionally, i have also experimented lot using it. Being it's open source gives you lot of flexibility. It's community driven development gives us exposure to lots of third party tools which has made my work easier.
Recommendations to others considering the product:

Very solid relational database
What do you like best about the product?
It is free and has many years of very solid performance.
What do you dislike about the product?
It doesn't support all of the features we would like it to.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It runs our entire business and has for nearly a decade without major incident. All for no cost.
Great tool to measure and monitor database
What do you like best about the product?
I like the query analyzer as it helps me optimize my queries, making and learning different techniques to fit the type of database / environment that I'm working with. It tells me which sub query is using more resources all in a simple graph / chart type design.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not so much a dislike but I need to find new techniques myself and apply it and analyze the query analyzer again to see what's causing high loads.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
MySQL is helping solve issues with long query / query that stall / break mid stream. Optimization for the query is great for both the company and myself as I get the results that I need and the database has more resource for the business to use.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Although there is a learning curve when learning all the different functionalities and how it applies to your circumstances, but it is a great tool to use and will provide a lot of benefits once you learn all the functionalities.
I would recommend My SQL to anyone who would like to get started in programming in SQL DB
What do you like best about the product?
My SQL is very user friendly any beginner can use it. I was able to look up everything I need to know on how to program using My SQL, with MS access as the front end client.
What do you dislike about the product?
My SQL has it's limitations, when it comes to programming when compared to MS SQL. There is only so much Data it can hold before it reaches its maximum capacity.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used to use MYSQL to create a DB for inventory, I have since moved to MS SQL DB since my DB grew to capacity for MYSQL. I still on some occasions program some small tools in
