The best CMS for advanced users.

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to customize my website to my needs and be able to take my site, share the database and build apps for my needs. Joomla allows you to do everything for your site with advanced knowledge of CSS, HTML and more. Most template providers offer their own framework, the current one we use is based on Bootstrap 3 which allows us to customize and build custom modules based on Bootstrap 3.
What do you dislike about the product?
The design of the admin panel and lack of admin modules. Feel forced to use the Joomla articles instead of third-party components due to the lack of available modules from developers for the admin panel. SEO can also improve but works great using a third-party component. Out of the box, Joomla only has Bootstrap 2 built-in which causes lack of ability to future-proof but third-party templates can upgrade to newer Bootstrap so you can have better customization.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our entire website is built with Joomla, allows us to show our product to the world and using third-party components built custom to our needs, allows us to have apps custom made for iOS, Android and more. Joomla is a complete suite for the advanced web designer. Having a Extension Showcase on the Joomla website also helps find the right components, modules or plugins to tailor the needs of my company.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Read all about Joomla, know what Joomla can and can't do. Do much research about all different template frameworks and have knowledge about CSS & HTML so you can customize your whole experience.

CMS for Dummies

  • April 11, 2017

What do you like best about the product?
We use Joomla to build and host websites on behalf of our clients. One of the main reasons we selected Joomla as our platform of choice is because of ease of use. It's something that we can very easily train our own internal, non-technologically savvy staff to use (once site is up) or the client.
What do you dislike about the product?
Can be difficult to find the answer to bugs or how to set-up modules. Need to be really resourceful in tracking down articles online or forums.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Creating, launching, and hosting websites in a timely and cost efficient manner. We've been able to add an entire core competency to our roster of services which has resulted in net new revenue via projects we wouldn't have previously been able to handle.

Basic usage of Joomla

  • April 03, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Joomla is one of the web's most popular open source CMS and one of the most used open source CMS worldwide. it is very easy to use and has usage manuals all over the web to assist a user. it also has an SEO setting section that allows you to set the basic SEO functions for the site.
What do you dislike about the product?
Perhaps the code is not to clean like other CMS and not to simplified to work with. Then again, clients don't see the code so it really depends on your perspective.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Designed a responsive site that had gopd SEO and presentable apperance.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
its very easy to use and has a very good security system for sites you design.

Great product if you want a nice custom website but without all the cost or coding

  • March 15, 2017

What do you like best about the product?
Once you get the hang of how the different features, plugins, and content are structured, it becomes very easy to maintain an active website with lots of updates.
What do you dislike about the product?
Building and/or modifying templates can at times be a real pain if you are looking for a very specific look.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Need a website that allows a lot of user interaction, but don't have the staff to maintain anything that is hand coded.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do a test site first and load in the sample data that comes with it (an option during installation). Having that data in will help you get a feel for how to add new content and how it will appear in the site. Then try installing a bunch of different free plugins and ad ons. Don't get discourage if one of the first plugins you install doesn't work the way you want. Some are just better designed for different versions.

Joomla is the right fit for some sites

  • February 07, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Joomla is certainly a good open source CMS. Although WordPress tends to be the defacto goto for most website designers, Joomla offers some features WordPress lacks. The versatility of the Joomla modules makes laying out your pages a lot easier than with a WordPress. The User roles are a nice feature as well, especially if you are creating a membership based website.
What do you dislike about the product?
Joomla seems to be be a bit heavy. Every Joomla site I've built tends to run slow in comparison to WordPress , ASP.NET or Drupal sites.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have built several Joomla sites in the past. We were using Joomla quite a bit for our financial clients to segment user roles. It worked well for clients to have access to particular pages and no access to others.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Understand that the learning curve for Joomla, although fairly shallow, is a bit steeper than WordPress. But if you are having trouble using WordPress, you should probably hire a web designer.

one of the most popular PHP open source CMS

What do you like best about the product?
Joomla! has a great community with a vast range of choices of plugins. There is a native framework with ORM, MVC templating system, file caching system and other useful classes for developers.
The plugins system based on events allows you to intercept the software flow and change it basing on you needs. Joomla! is more than a CMS, it's an ecosystem with the CMS at the core, where you can pack and install almost every feature you need.
What do you dislike about the product?
As more as you install extensions you will have problems to maintain them because not all of them are updated when are released new major versions. Another problem you can easily run through is SEO: while you use native Joomla! articles component you wouldn't have big problems, but while you install third party components you will need a plugin for SEO that supports the plugins you installed or you should install plugins (if available) for the SEO plugin to support your plugins. That is very bad situation and if you can't code (or you don't have a budget for someone that can do this for you), you will find difficult to achieve your SEO goals.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Company websites are very easy to build with Joomla! and a lot of extensions are very useful to add key functionalities. The medium-high level of programmi knowledge required for customizations allowed me to participate to very interesting projects.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Install only the extensions that you need, and use it only if the CMS core supports 90% of you needs, dependency on plugins can be very uncomfortable in Joomla!
