Joomla! the second place Open Source CMS that may not have a future.

What do you like best about the product?
Joomla! has an exceptionally well curated collection of extensions (templates, plugins, and components) that can take a vanilla Joomla! website very far in the first strides of a project. The official Joomla! extensions directory is like the Amazon of offerings and reviews for the Joomla! community of website owners, builders, and developers. In an afternoon you can launch a Joomla! website and fill it out with a collection of free and paid extensions that will get you quite far... perhaps 75% of the functionality and design needed for a complete website project.
What do you dislike about the product?
With the panoply of extensions and templates, Joomla! websites can quickly become a spaghetti mess of 3rd party tools fighting each other under the hood. Many of the extensions and templates offer competing ways of doing the same activity. What's more is that these components are necessary because the basic site building tools needed for most projects are not present in the core Joomla! toolset. Joomla! does not have a built in Content Construction Kit, unlike Drupal with it's node and views tools in core, so you will have to choose a 3rd party tool. This puts you in the position of being dependent on the overall Joomla! project community for support and a 3rd party developer that could abandon their extension at any time. These 3rd party tools, and Joomla! itself, do not always stress developer thinking flexibility... if there is not a checkbox for what you want to do... you may not be able to do it in Joomla! without hacking apart an extension.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Joomla! is great at getting up to speed with a website that needs more functionality than a blog at launch. Many potential website owners are going to be directly comparing Joomla! to WordPress at first. Joomla! offers more flexibility in my opinion than WordPress, but it is not as good at blogging... and probably will never be. Joomla! can do more faster, but it does not really do any of the functions best or at an enterprise caliber. If you want a world class blog, you can do it in WordPress. If you have a complicated web application with multi-site and multi-user deployment, Drupal can handle it. Joomla! is a middle player that is adept at handling middle player (small to medium business issues) quickly.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I am not sure Joomla! has a strong future, it is deployed widely... but it seems to falling in usage an popularity according to Google Trends. Joomla! is free so it gets lots of deployments, but I am not sure they are all that well supported or have much commitment. WordPress has the same ambiguity about the weight of its install base, but there seems to be much more committed high end developers for WordPress and Drupal.

If you need a brochure with a blog, use WordPress.

If you want an enterprise class website that your business or organization can grow with in the long term, choose Drupal.

What do you like best about the product?
Find it very easy to use and develop the template around. Clients seem to understand how to utilize the CMS easily and the articles/components/modules setup is easier to use from an end admin user perspective than most other options out there. There are also a large number of plugins, components & modules created from 3rd parties that help speed up development
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing really innovative has come out in a long time, each version does have its nice perks and updates, but i wouldn't consider them the leaders in CMS innovation. I've also recently found the sites have been getting hacked often if I don't install rsFirewall
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We utilize it for a majority of our clients basic site needs, it allows clients to easily update and maintain their website while still allowing us to have a revenue stream adding features.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it out, old mambo, and 1.x builds have a bad wrap and people have wrote it off from time to time, I invite you to install it on a dev server and see how easy it is to use and develop around

What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it's cancel button instead of close, but maybe its a problem of plugin, I don't know. Cache clear sometimes is too difficult for me (after Drupal for example)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

Great CMS for website design

  • June 02, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I've been using Joomla since 2007. I've tried using other content management systems, such as WordPress and Drupal, but those don't meet my needs like Joomla does. Joomla allows you to create different categories for your articles.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think Joomla gets better with each new software release. Everything works as expected, but Joomla 4 can take some getting used to because it's nothing like the previous versions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Joomla allows me to design a website in a matter of days. If I had to design one by hand using a program like Dreamweaver or Notepad, it would take several weeks.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be sure to read all of the documentation before using Joomla for the first time. The Joomla community is a great place to find answers for your problems.

What do you like best about the product?
Joomla is free and open source which is always a huge plus.
What do you dislike about the product?
Development and management of sites has always been unnecessarily cumbersome. I don't think Joomla has been able to keep up with WordPress.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Content management for websites.

Ottimo per fare un sito in 10 minuti!

  • May 29, 2016

What do you like best about the product?
What do you dislike about the product?
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Un grandissimo cms che dovete assolutamente provare.!

What do you like best about the product?
Very fast usage
Shear volume of capabilities
Forms
How customers stories are solved
Classing and intuitive page editing
What do you dislike about the product?
Design templates
How lock/unlock is used for parallel document change
You can get lost and spend some time before you find what you're looking for
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Joomla for our website.
Our outsourced agency prepared the initial framework and design, and now we are maintaining the site - adding, editing pages and publishing news.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Much better for company use.
If you don't need too much design.
If you want a more functional and faster editor than Wordpress.

  • May 20, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What do you dislike about the product?
Sarebbe bello poterne avere altri a disposizione.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Facilissimo da usare e da installare. Il migliore in assoluto.

Great at what it does

  • May 17, 2016

What do you like best about the product?
Choosing a CMS is quite difficult these days, having an abundance of choice. Each is quite good and has it's strengths, but Joomla, in my opinion is far superior due to one single fact - it is an all around CMS, where others were built for a single purpose and are trying to emulate or implement additional features based on an older code base. You can setup your personal or small company website in a matter of minutes, having all sorts of widgets and features, having an extreme amount of free or paid plugins, addons, components at your disposal. The forums are full of custom feature implementations and the community behind Joomla is superior to many of it's competitors.
What do you dislike about the product?
The back-end, where most of the time of a web application administrator is spent needs more work, even though it was a great imporvement in comparison to previous versions (especially 1.5) it still feels unnatural or even clunky at times, but this is all gone as soon as you get used to it. It also would've been nice if the whole Joomla Framework would've been structured in a more programmer friendly way, relying heavier on OOP and well known standards and/or paradigms, since Joomla's MVC is not your standard MVC pattern, although I understand that i would require a re-write of the whole code base of the project and is not much of an issue if you plan to invest in learning the ins and outs of the framework.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smaller personal or business websites with basic or intermediate functionality. Some smaller components can be written for such projects too, but the lack of git for such custom features is becoming a greater issue for larger projects. It is great at what it does, being an entry point for those only starting in web development or looking for a fast and easy implementation of their idea. You can setup your project without writing a single line of code in a matter of minutes.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would greatly recommend it for personal use, even for small and/or family-owned businesses. If you can't do it yourself the cost of hiring a Joomla developer is relatively small, especially considering custom web application development. It is definitely a great contender and one of the best CMS solutions out there.
