Could be really good until you have to cope with uncommon issue

  • October 01, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best?
We are using Check Point devices for more than 10 years and they work quite good.
The best thing is Threat Emulation and Threat Extraction technology - advanced sandboxing and file cleaning (from active content) technologies that are great protection against new threats in mail attachments (and also downloads, although it's still being developed) - despite some false positives.
What do you dislike?
We're using Check Point products for many years and we were generally happy with them.

This changed recently during COVID crisis, when we struggled with severe instability for weeks - the issue appeared to be complicated and we had to first find a workaround by ourselves.
The resolution took a vendor far too long and we were really disappointed with this.
On the bright side - we discussed this issue with Check Point support (on global management level) and it appears they have learned some lessons here.
Also they've pointed out a new fast escalation method, if some important issue get stuck in the support system - there are direct phone numbers and e-mail available for both globalb support manager and all regional leaders (available i.ex. by searching check point escalation in google).
We were promised that escalations put there are checked regularly and treated very seriously.

We hope the lessons are learned at Check Point and such situation won't happen again.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Check Point firewall are protecting our networks globally.
Sandboxing is used to filter malicious e-mails.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Don't count on vendor support

more than 20 years usage

  • August 30, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best?
Very easy to use, Best user interface and management in the firewall segment. It can be deployed from the small to large enterprises. Pricing is flexible. Innovative add-on modules can be added and activated. Performance is adequate. TP and IPS customization is great. Most of all company has the vision and commitment.
What do you dislike?
Firewall internal mechanism. Lots of code in the firewall core, As the codes grow by time, finding the problem is really hard. Performance issues especially compared to other vendors. Checkpoint does not use ASIC or special HW of ifs own, HWs are OEM. Especially in real world mixed traffic, counters are peak. 3rd party entegrations are tricky.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Main usage is perimeter defence and segmentaion . Audit findings and compliance issues are easily handled with the Checkpoint NGFW. Many deployments we are noy buying additional IPS/TP software, we just enable the TP modules. TP modules give high coverage of defense in terms of client and server protection. Visibility is the additional benefit, gui and reporting give high visibliity from user and traffic perspective.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Start and deal with all the modules/add-on available to Checkpoint NGFWs. Believe ever module is woth to use. Deploy CMA or MDM. Use the latest version and install the layesy HFA. For the HW buy the latest models - GenVx; you will need the HW performance with ever module you'll open

Evolution of security management Check point

  • August 14, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best?
Check Point next generation firewall is an excellent product, it is very reliable and has a lot of evolution in security issues that are well recognized by the security world. It has many options to explore and customize allowing multiple configuration options that facilitate security management in firewalls. You have many API development options to expand the options.
What do you dislike?
I believe that the API CLI could be improved in order to provide a better user experience, sometimes the API closes or hangs or becomes slow.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
The legacy applications that still exist in version R80.40 are not very user friendly and go against the evolutions that have been introduced in versions 80 of Check Point.
The legacy mobile access blade is very outdated and limited, many of the limitations of the legacy Mobile Access stopped the mobile access unified policy blade, for example, you cannot place network type objects, service ranges in the rules. In addition to the above, when placing objects they have limitations, the system is not able to identify the problem and allow policies to be applied, after applying policies the rules do not work because they have network objects or port ranges.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I highly recommend Check Point

Good product the API is really cool

  • August 11, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best?
The mgmt interface for R80.40 is really cool intuitive, the APIs integration for begginers and advanced users is perfect plus the online comunity , open forums, and online documentation is quite special, these things let you focus in what is really important for an automatization task, for firewall tasks, identity awareness and IPS tasks the NGFW of checkpoint is perfect the rollback of the session in the mgmt is a good feature and a good thing in terms of auditory because let you see the changes over time in a easy way.
What do you dislike?
Since R80 release all the next OS are release very quick having a lot of bugs with a lot of new jumbo hotfixes for the solution of these issues also the new inline layer feature introduced since 80.10 is still in development even in the last release R80.40 with a lot of bugs specially in mobile access blades the legacy mode is better
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Perimetral FW, VPN clients, a centralized mgmt of all the firewalls of the company and automatization of recurrents taks using the api
