Great performance and easy to use

What do you like best about the product?
Great foundation. Basic SQL operations (joining, grouping, sorting) are greatly implemented and scale to many billions of rows. you'll build plenty of great things on top of it.
What do you dislike about the product?
Loaders and connectivity options may well be better. Those tools are very flexible internally, but you have got to understand the way to use them properly. And documentation is simply too generic sometimes, lacking implementation details. we are able to decompile it and peek inside to require advantage of hidden stuff, but most of the individuals can't do this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
UDF framework allows to run any custom code inside Exasol, so you will potentially connect with anything within the most native way. This in a way has helped improve our business process agility.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you opt for bare-metal hardware, buy a smaller number of most performant servers. it'll be much easier to scale your cluster later. Also, please confirm you have got a minimum of 10Gb private network and the maximum amount RAM as possible. It really helps if you have got 90%+ buffer hit rate, so most of the SELECTED queries never touch HDD / SDD.

Know only to the PoC level

What do you like best about the product?
There is an open source version to allow you to play around with and learn the technology. Of course there is a commercial version as well. It also has on premise and cloud options.

The claim to be extremely fast with large data sets. I wasn't able to test this. I can say that their sql was standard and easy to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing stood out as a negative. They don't seem to have too large of a presence in the US market
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Looking to improve query performance over Hadoop/hive

Super fast reporting

What do you like best about the product?
We definitely like Exasol's performance best. We use Exasol as the backend for our reporting and BI tools and as such it has proved to be incredibly fast and scalable even for tables > 1TB in size. And not only is querying fast but data imports are fast too. We regularly see import speeds of 100MB/s. This allows us to keep it updated in real-time with our operational databases.

A close second is the low maintenance. Queries rarely have to be tuned and, other than periodic upgrades, we've found the system itself to be almost maintenance free.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's hard to find anything in particular to dislike. Whenever I run into a problem their customer service is always prompt and open about discussing and acting on it if it makes sense. They are also transparent about their roadmap so you can see when issues will be fixed and addressed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our primary use of Exasol is to provide fast, accurate, and timely financial reports for our clients. Our clients are very happy with this service.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try out the free community edition. It will give a good indication of how fast and easy to use it is. Note that the paid version is faster and much more scalable than the free version.

Extremely fast data warehouse solution used with Tableau

  • July 01, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Indexes are maintained automatically lowering the overhead for management. Queries are extremely fast compared to our previous SQL Server data warehouse solutions. We throw very complex queries at it every day using tables with hundreds of millions of records and it runs like a champ. Exasol scales out by parallel processing queries across multiple server nodes.
What do you dislike about the product?
You have to learn Lua as it is the back-end scripting language. I'm hoping at some point Exasol will support Python for scripting. Python (among other languages) is already supported for user defined functions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a replacement for Tableau extracts. Now Tableau has live connections to Exasol meaning that we can execute on a true incremental load strategy and centrally manage our business logic. Row and column security is now easy to deploy to Tableau using database level views. There is now no limit to the size of our data sources we expose through Tableau.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Spin up a proof of concept using the free community edition in a virtual environment.

Fast, reliable and amazing customer suppor

  • July 18, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Oracle like syntax, fast performances with hundreds of terabyte of data, easy to maintain and configure, but what is even more impressing if the attention reserved to their customers. Their training are quite useful to be quickly up to speed.
What do you dislike about the product?
Scripting is a bit cumbersome at beginning (requires LUA), but we were able to handle that.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our EXASOL database is our company warehouse, it's our to go place for all our daily analysis.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Contact them, explain your problem, they have the solution for you
