SAP HANA has grown to be a good database engine

  • October 09, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best?
HANA was built as an in-memory database from the start, doing a technological leap ahead of the other databases. This is and advantage because the vast amount of memory is more and more affordable. For queries and aggregations the read actions are very fast.
What do you dislike?
While the views (calculation views) are good, the HTML analytical editor is still a development in progress and can sometime give headaches to work around its quirks. A limitation of HANA was supporting only one "database" on an installation instance, however, HANA 2.0 has now solved this. One pain that you have to live with is the relative slow time it takes to change an existing database structure for a table, but structure changes don't happen that frequently.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
The biggest benefit to SAP HANA users comes when they are already an SAP customer: they get all bits of the solution from one single provider (SAP). Pricewise, it's quite competitive to the Microsoft SQL offering.

Excellent batabase and platform

  • October 05, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best?
The range of tools and products offered by SAP Hana from a database and platform point of view
What do you dislike?
Unexplained latency at times and shutdown of the database (very rare) due to high memory consumption from expensive HANA Views
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
At times there has been unexplained reasons for a shutdown at database level. Though long memory consumption from hanaviews had been sited as the potential reasons, there hasnt been any concrete evidence of the same.

The fast usage of sap hana, usually before programs that were ran on old systems R3 would take even approximately 3 weeks to run. Now with Hana you can create views to get such data

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
SAP data extractions in a very short time

HANA is great DB to be used in conjunction with SAP applications

  • September 17, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best?
We managed to reduce runtime of all our jobs and processes by 25 % in our APS system as a result squeezing our E2E workflow from 10 hours to 7.5 hours .

Improved reporting , we could use SAP HANA replication models to create BOBJ reports from various APO Planning areas which had a refresh cadence of less than 15 mins ( so very close to real time )
What do you dislike?
It was expensive.

Users used to face a lot if issues when the refresh took place every 15 mins as in at a specific point when the data write used to take place it used to slow down the BOBJ report .
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Workflow optimization and Real time reporting.
