Excellent S3 scan solution
We have been using the product for more than a year for buckets scanning. It gives us great value, very easy to install, upgrade and operate. It also has a very good dashboard and quick and efficient support.

Great product
Scalable, flexible solution for running anti-virus scans at scale. We ran about 1M scans in the last few weeks, no issues.
Some highlights
- this truly is single-click-to-deploy. Whereas many marketplace solutions often require extensive outside configuration, this one is extremely easy to set up and doesn't hang or cause other issues
- great documentation
- flexibility to create whatever sort of queue-based, notification-based workflows you might want or need to support (ex. send to slack, send to webhook via SNS, etc)
- continues to be updated regularly
Low cost, easy to configure with 10/10 support
We have been using BucketAV for several months. While reviewing possible solutions for S3 AV scanners, a few key factors drew our attention to BucketAV:
- well documented installation instructructions
- choice of ClamAV or Sophos
- overall AWS overhead costs - based on usage
- integration within AWS, not a separate UI
Before I go into more detail, BucketAV has AAA support. We had questions ranging from multiple AWS accounts, on-demand and scheduled scanning, EC2 autoscaling and file upload queuing. The developers were always quick to respond and resolve my issues quickly, following up if they had not received a response.
We chose the ClamAV option as it suited our needs.
The installation instructions were very clear. The process of purchasing BucketAV from the AWS Marketplace to having a running default installation was minutes, not hours or days.
After installing BucketAV, modifying the parameters is done through an AWS CloudFront template. It is a very simple process to deploy change. The deployments are quick, so any changes can be tested and reverted within minutes or other tweaks added.
There are also add-ons available for scheduled scanning and reporting, also handled by CloudFront templates.
At the end of our installation and configuration our environments have:
- BucketAV scanning for all environments
- all environments are using spot instances
- on demand EC2s for all environments but production
- varying EC2 autoscaling based on the environment
- scanning one S3 bucket per environment
- immediate notification if a suspicious file is found
- on-demand full scan available
CloudWatch dashboard - this is part of the default BucketAV installation
Scheduled Scanning
- different schedules for different environments
Weekly/Monthly reports based on the Scheduled scanning
TL;DR: End user support 10/10, ease of installation, very customizable, easy to scale, low overhead cost, well integrated with AWS, ClamAV core.
The virus scanning that just works
We are using bucketAV for our scan-at-rest use case, which works seamlessly.
You don't have to know much about what goes under the hood. The cloudwatch dashboard is beneficial for tracking the scanning.
Perfect product for antivirus scan
This product is perfect for scanning files for virus when uploaded on a S3. It works perfectly fine on an existing infra (cloudformation script). Editor provided a great support
Solid Reliable Product + Great Support
Been using in production for a few years, runs like a dream and keeps malware signatures up to date. Support is always on hand and prompt if you ever require it too. Would recommend!
Simple set and forget AV protection
We needed to scan all our current and future S3 files for viruses. bucketAV was a breeze to setup and, apart from some occasional manual upgrades (which are easy to complete), bucketAV has not required any interaction. It runs in the background, using spot instances, which helps keeps the cost low. High recommended for anyone needing S3 file Antivirus scanning for regulatory compliance.
Easy to use and great support!
I set up a micro-service for my team that uses bucketAV. Their FAQ and setup guide do a fantastic job helping you get everything setup, but when I had a question that wasn't in the FAQ, I sent them an email and they responded very quickly.
Excellent tool and responsive developers
BucketAV works well for our needs of ensuring the safety of uploaded files to our buckets. It was easy to set up, both manually for testing, and daisy-chained through our Terraform IaC configurations when we were ready to roll it out.
The developers responded quickly to a feature request required for our specific infrastructure configurations, and they implemented said feature in the very next version release.
Excellent all round
When i'm looking at using a service I care deeply about the usability, the level of documentation, responsive support, and evidence of ongoing maintenance. The team behind BucketAV provide all of that.
It's easy to set up as there are a lot of guides. New features and updates are pushed out regularly. If you have an issue then Michael and Andreas are responsive and very knowledgeable.
