Github for Source Control

  • December 28, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use - branching is a breeze, there are several good options for GUIs on Windows, or use the command line interface. I can use the same project source control on a Windows or NIX machine
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes searching can be a pain, as well as merging code - but that is often the developers fault not the merge!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Source control! Team collaboration is also easier

Allows me collaborate even if miles away.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Github aids me host in the cloud. While allowing me collaborate(codewise) with my colleagues around the world. I have had situations where I have to do projects and I realize the one partner for the project is a friend miles away and I still go ahead with working with him/her ,thanks to Github.
Lastly I love the UI of this program,it is neat ,self explanatory and easy to navigate around.
What do you dislike about the product?
Private repository's on Github can be expensive ,especially when used for group projects with a lot of collaborators, could get expensive quickly in situations like this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Github allows me stay in touch with modern standards by staying in touch with how developers across the world are getting job done. It has also majorly given me an edge when I do freelancing work ; as I have seen project owners pick me just 'cause I file my work on Github.

Great Tool for Software Developers

  • December 27, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Version control is a software developer's best friend. GitHub allows you to share your work and collaborate with others, all while providing you with version control, issues management, insight and even conflict control. The best thing about GitHub is the community. People are reporting bugs, inspecting your code and always very helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest dislike about GitHub is the merge conflicts. When two or more people are working on a project and multiple people change one file, a conflict is create. GitHub attempts to handle these conflicts but it does so poorly and one person must always asses and correct the code manually.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Version control and collaboration and code storage are all problems we are solving with GitHub. Other benefits include code search, restoring to previous states and ability to view workflow for code review.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Definitely use GitHub for any projects you are working on outside of your company. If your company wants to use GitHub, I would suggest creating a private repo so that others won't see your code. You can handle all of the issues and such by adding other members of your team to the repository so that they can contribute.

Best Git repositories host

  • December 27, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Pull requests. I'm in a company of 50+ developers who can work all together in pull requests. Even when someone is not from my team and don't know the whole context, he can leave some comments and improve the solution.
What do you dislike about the product?
The REST API could have more information for custom integration, like blame line in a file.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Management of code. The Pull Requests make code reviews and multiple teams integration so much easier.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Comparing to the other bigger competitor, Github has much more features and is easier to use.

Github helps our team ship

  • December 27, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Github is quick and easy to get started with. Setting up an organization takes no time at all.
What do you dislike about the product?
User management could be better. It's hard to correctly scope larger organizations. Issue management across repos is poor and requires 3rd party tools.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Github hosts all our software source code. We use it for all issue tracking software, trouble tickets and business tasks. It's helped us to improve visibility into our organization.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Github covers a majority of features required for small to medium sized teams with little or no changes to the stock setup. The services provided are reliable and dependable. It's easy to get started and their new pricing structure keeps the cost of a large code base reasonable.

My experience with Github

  • December 27, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the fact that the learning curve to using it isn’t as much as one would expect. It also has some great integrations with Slack and Jenkins
What do you dislike about the product?
Up to now there’s isn’t much that I dislike. Maybe proyect management could be improved, but for the moment JIRA is the way to go
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Code versioning, functionality isolation through branches. Code reviews through Pull Requests. Mainly all problems that Git solves

Great tool for software development collaboration

  • December 26, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- As a web application GitHub is very easy to use and intuitive.
- GitHub it's a very reliable service that responds really fast and there is usually no downtime.
- There is plenty of support and integration with third-party tools
- GitHub has make it very easy for developers to work together on projects (Open Source or not). I like to think of GitHub as the equivalent of Facebook but software development.
What do you dislike about the product?
- Getting GitHub to implement new features is very hard and sometimes impossible (think Dear GitHub letter).
-
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Version control and collaboration among software developers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would always recommend using GitHub. It's very easy to use and makes software development collaboration a breeze. Go for it (if you can)!

In love with GitHub

  • December 26, 2017

What do you like best about the product?
- Useful projects on GitHub in open-source world
- You could share your info (code, presentation) in easy way
- The best place to all your programming staff
- Private repositories
What do you dislike about the product?
- The one thing that I don't understand why we still don't have "save for later" functionality (put some repo to saved), people use "star" not only as "like" but as "save for later", that's why some of lists/how-tos have so many stars (but probably should not?).
- Also, I didn't find a GitHub bug tracker, so if something is broken you could post it only on twitter.
- Probably up to 3 repositories could be for free for private needs :)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A lot of things that I use in the daily job are hosted on GitHub (e.g. .NET Core, Angular 4), you could navigate by code, create the issue, answer on other issues, help to improve technology/framework. Also, sometimes I share my own code with other developers and develop my pet projects in private repositories.
