What do you like best about the product?
Mainly Github is used for the project management as it shows the issues or the wrong way which we are going through, I like the way of proving us wrong so that our programming skill would increase to its best level. I like it as it makes the easy contribution of the top open source projects with the pull request via its web interface. It has helped many students to make there projects so that they can improve there mistakes and go for the project management given by the college professors. It also helps giving the articles which have the content of practically any topic present on earth. Recently the Github software developers introduced about the gists in Github which was a good thought of changing the normal file into git reports. There are many benefits of using this software in any way like for research, project management and many other applications. Any one can learn about the programming using this software. I was totally new to programming but after using this software, I would say that I am aware of many facts of programming.
What do you dislike about the product?
In this basic starting of GitHub many programmers are getting problems of understanding the theme and templates of GitHub but after the enough use of GitHub and understanding the pros and cons any one can get used to it. There are no dislikes but at the starting basis its somehow getting difficult.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
There are many programmers working on research and development and they are getting better response of using GitHub so this is how our company getting realized of using this software.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend that this software is best for the programmers who are totally new to programming, they can learn and explore. Keeping going GitHub. Thank you

As easy as Git can get, but still stripping away sovereignty from your own project

What do you like best about the product?
Having your project on GitHub will do wonders for visibility. There will be open-source enthusiasts around your project, and if you approach them properly, you can build great communities in no time.
What do you dislike about the product?
Unless you pay for their hosting options, relying on GitHub is dangerous for the autonomy of your project, a concern that will get bigger and bigger as your project gets more popular. There’s no guarantee that they’ll keep hosting you forever, and there are privacy concerns related to interacting with a U.S. company offering a proprietary service.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
More people have spotted code bugs and submitted enhancements through our GitHub mirrors, which is great feedback but requires you to keep tabs on the mirrors as well as your own contact/feedback channels.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Invest in your own Git hosting when you can and makes sense for your project. Git is supposed to be descentralized.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use to begin with. I find command line interface very useful in terms of sharing the code.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing, product wise. It would be good to have a free version of a private repo.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Git every day with my team to share the code and deploy it to our production instances,

A essential tool for developers

  • November 27, 2017

What do you like best about the product?
The fact that GitHub is widely adopted in our community. It's the place to be for libraries, examples, issues and learning. It's amazing what is possible in this open source environment.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some repositories are bad practices or not maintained. It would be nice to see how 'healthy' a codebase is.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collaborating with other developers.
The fact that there is a central place for all the different codebases and scripts in your company is super useful.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Just do it, this is essential in your development workflow.

Sturdy, not always as easy as pie, but happy with it

What do you like best about the product?
I'm a huge fan of the command line github access. Keeps it simple and in tune with where I spend my time. I can set up aliases to make it fly even faster and solve problems faster than with the UI (for the Mac).
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't find the version recovery as intuitive as I would like. Coming from the (albeit ancient) realm of ClearCase, no one really does it quiet as well as that.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Assign from the usual, code versioning, branching, release etc., we use it to control versions of custom xml, html, and jrxml files for customers - so anyone can get the latest version and modify it.

What do you dislike about the product?
It's not easy to learn, new users will struggle to get the things.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Any user can contribute to code.
Version repository
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Difficult for the new users to adapt

GitHub is great for a selective group of users and purposes.

What do you like best about the product?
Github has a lot of really obvious advantages. First of all, the obvious advantages of using GitHub as opposed to no VCM at all: It makes it easier to collaborate and contribute on open-source projects, it's really easy to document using Markdown, and because of this documentation is readily available and often great in general, and a great place to start if you are just learning Git and are working on a small project solo. Comparing GitHub to some of its competitors, there are even more ways it outcompetes others: With GitHub pages, you can setup a small website without having to host or setup a DNS, you can easily collaborate with other GitHub users, and you can fork large projects in an effort to introduce your own improvements, and possibly even get them included in the actual project!
What do you dislike about the product?
If you aren't a student or trying to work on an independent project, cost and plans can quickly get in the way of your project's progress. Cost is usually the biggest reason many professionals in the startup industry decide to use GitHub's competitors, like BitBucket. Competitors of GitHub also offer the option of using either Git or Mercurial as their VCS. Additionally, GitHub still charges per month to host projects privately, which is a huge issue of cost.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The best enterprise-like feature of GitHub is the ability to host an instance of GitHub on our own servers, which is more suitable for large companies looking to heavily-manage their VCM.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
GitHub is extremely easy-to-use and setup, which makes it a great option for those looking for a VCM that is functional and somewhat affordable.

Nothing short of pleasant

What do you like best about the product?
The simplicity and organisation that Github provides to experienced, and learning developers is beyond what I've seen at competing hubs. I've always preferred using github to organize my work over other platforms like bitbucket, or google's code platform. Most outsiders also recognize Github as a credible platform, so there isn't any bewilderment over link sharing.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not a huge fan of Github's desktop app, but to be fair, i do most of my git through the terminal anyway. Unlike applications like Gitkraken, github can only source sit repos hosted on github. So if you have a project hosted on, say, Pantheon, you wouldn't be able to use Github desktop as your git GIU.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm using github for personal use at the moment, and im using their free hosting solution to house, not only my projects, but my portfolio as well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
if you're just starting off as a developer, or want a place to showcase your elite coding skills, Github is a great platform & community to do so. There so much for users to do on the free tier alone, going for paid seems like a worthwhile cause. I'd recommend Github to anyone wanting a full-service git client at little to no cost.

Your code will love it

What do you like best about the product?
Friendly interface, plenty of features in addition to Git (i.e. Agile board), fairly easy to integrate with CI/CD services, joy from working via Git/GitHub Flow, free github.io hosting.
What do you dislike about the product?
No free private repositories, which significantly reduces GitHub's chances to become used at small companies/startups. Also, I wish some features were more configurable, i.e. I could set the minimum approvals number for a pull request to get merged.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Version Control Hosting, Peer Code Review via Git and GitHub Flow (depends on a project). Navigation within the code is ultimately easy, which is especially beneficial for nontechnical people, i.e. managers/stakeholders/product owners.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Live communication between team members is the key: speak about how you want to use this tool before actually using it. If you are a small company or startup, make sure you can/want to afford GitHub's private repositories. As your company grows you might want to start considering alternatives.
