Excellent collaboration and repository management tool.

What do you like best about the product?
The documentation is fairly thorough and has character to it. I like that it's free and a great source of open source code. Possibly the biggest, speaking merely from experience. And of course for collaboration it's really easy to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike some of their UX choices in the website, for example, the Comment button and the Merge pull request buttons are the same color and size, easy to make a mistake when you are trying to comment on a PR!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using it to share design templates for reuse amongst our web design and development teams. Due to the common sharing we are always working from a common codebase and it has limited our defects.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you write code: use this. Simple. Great price for peace of mind.

What do you like best about the product?
GitHub is most popular git version control repository server. It provides all features of GIt as well as adding its own features. Github provides collaboration features such as project read me, wikis, issue tracking, pull requests, commit history, access control to various collaborators. Github provides a feature to compare two branches or two commits called pull request. A code reviewer can review and provide his commits on this. GIthub provides private repository for personal projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
If someone is new to GitHub, one of the challenges is getting to grips with the github model, which requires practice and time. It costs to have a versioning repository on GitHub. Github GUI a little confusing to use and it is easy to use its CLI instead. Private repositories are chargeable. Bitbucket comes with Jira integration that is still missing in Github
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We am using git hub in each and every project for source code management. Github is very easy to use git hosting provider server. Github allows easy contributions of code between our project members. Github provides a way to review code before it is merged into master branch. It provides nice interface to view all commit history and allows to easily compare two different commits. Github provide fast searching across all files.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I recommend git hub to all developers who are looking for an simple and easy to use source code management and git version control hosting server. GitHub has some of the best documentation around. Github makes easy to contributions to projects within small and large teams. Github provides each na d every collaboration features a software development platform provides.

What do you like best about the product?
Excellent support for complex workflows. Good offline support if you want to work offline.
What do you dislike about the product?
Need good tools for code diff against multiple branches for all operating systems.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have a huge developer base working on the same code. It makes merging the code seamless and the tools it provides are excellent.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ability to do code reviews.

Good collaboration tool

What do you like best about the product?
We use Github to work on a project as a team. The workflow is straightforward and it makes collaboration efficient. The documentation is comprehensive. Once I got the gist of the workflow, collaboration was a breeze.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can take a little time to learn how to use it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collaboration, team work on the same project, sharing changes that are made to the project. We don't have to worry about version control or track changes. A lot of those details are transparent to the user.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you spend some time understanding how to use it and what is the workflow.

May as well call it Git Pro

  • December 29, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Git control for groups, extensive rules for branches, in-browser conflict resolution
What do you dislike about the product?
What is there to dislike? Perhaps the notification filters could use a little more flexibility.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Team-level mixed-security controlled access to private repositories. Realized benefits of giving users only permissions to write to repositories they need to access.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
For enterprise-level access, consider the costs of a hosted solution such as Github, over the hidden costs of hosting your own Gitlab box, storage, backup, etc.

    Computer Software

Fast and simplest src code version control software

  • December 29, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
clean and easy and very stable to use , additional third party tools and utilities available to make it better
What do you dislike about the product?
some times product and all the other utilities that are required to run the ALM platform doesnt seem as one integrated product. But that is not a deal killer as its just matter of getting used to.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We need an enterprise source control , which can be easily integrated into daily build and test process seamlessly. Git hub fits this role perfectly

Great way to review code

What do you like best about the product?
It's an easy way to branch, create and merge code that everyone in the company can see, and it's good to get inspiration from other coders
What do you dislike about the product?
I have no major dislikes but based on talking to other, non technical people they sometimes find it hard to get started
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Benefits: all our branching in once place, easy for people to review. great to make sure we're all on the same page before commits

Easy to use but could use some QoL improvements

  • December 29, 2017

What do you like best about the product?
Github is rightfully within the top 3 source versioning choices in software development. It's easy to start using it and it's highly valued as a viable portfolio entry. Furthermore, its UI is almost completely intuitive and affordable for start-ups.
What do you dislike about the product?
Unfortunately, it doesn't offer private repositories for smaller teams; as a comparison, Bitbucket allows teams of up to 5 members to be on a private repo.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a game and software developer, GitHub helps me centralise my portfolio, my projects; plus, it serves as my de facto source revisioning.

    Information Technology and Services

One of the best tools for code sharing, hosting, and much more

  • December 28, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Github has become the de-facto standard for hosting code using git. It has many features for maintenance, collaboration and sharing, and they add more all the time. GitHub also has some less-obvious features, such as free webpage hosting through GitHub Pages.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it feels like fixes and changes may take a while to get implemented.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am hosting all my open-source projects, both professional and personal, on GitHub. I also host my personal web pages using GitHub Pages.

A super useful tool for developers

  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's inexpensive and provides a lot of value for the money.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's nothing that I really dislike about GitHub.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's a great place to keep both public and private source code repositories.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
GitHub is the industry standard now. It's very easy to use, it's inexpensive, and it's also a great place to find other projects that might be interesting or useful to you in your own projects. Best of all, GitHub integrates with Tower, which is the Mac GitHub client that I use. It's a great app too.
