Drupal is a good CMS to make custom changes, but isn't as user-friendly as other platforms

  • December 28, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It works well for our website. It allows us to make more custom changes to our site and go beyond basic CMS capabilities.
What do you dislike about the product?
Oftentimes things are hard to find. It's not always straightforward to find exactly where you go to edit a certain header or text box, and simple edits can take up more time and resources than it should.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Drupal for our website CMS. Our developers built our new site on the CMS since it allows for more custom changes and more technical adjustments. It isn't nearly as user-friendly or straightforward as more common CMS platforms like WordPress or Squarespace, but once you get the hang of it it makes sense.

Best way to manage web content

What do you like best about the product?
The huge community of developers and extensive documentation on Drupal.org make it easy to really customize the experience.
What do you dislike about the product?
The lack of standards that are followed, giving Drupal a bad taste in people's minds about what it can do.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work on e-commerce solutions as well as a lot of healthcare and non-profit solutions.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be sure to understand why there are standards for the platform. This isn't wordpress and shouldn't be treated as a template only type of system.

Good, but not for large scale

What do you like best about the product?
I love this platform for building high end marketing sites, built by developers for developers, the architecture of the code and how things get extended with modules is top notch.
What do you dislike about the product?
There isn't a very good way to deploy code through dev -> prod. Since the code and database can be quite coupled, this makes it very hard to make changes after you are live.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We solve the problem of delivering a high quality website with a great CMS behind it.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Great for marketing sites but don't build an app that needs constant changes.

    Writing and Editing

Very good CMS system, open source, editing enabled for those who love to do it

  • December 26, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Drupal is a very good solution for people who love to code. While it's not the easiest to use, it is a very good option for people who love to edit the infrastructure they use.
Good community support of avid users
What do you dislike about the product?
Not the easiest to use
There are better options when it comes to themes and customization options for the interface (skins, etc.)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It will handle most of your CMS needs. It will allow customization.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Again, if you're not a coder, you might want to consider other options.

Drupal review

What do you like best about the product?
We use Drupal at 7-11 for content management of 711.com. I’d say Drupal is not the best at being a CMS but it’s not the worst either.
What do you dislike about the product?
Drupal is super bloated with random half baked features and yet the smallest features take so long to develop.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Content management. Managing the content is what we realized,
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There so many other better CMS solutions out there. Even Wordpress at this point is better. The way to go at this time is to go to the headless CMS route. Use something like Contentful or Contentstack and get rid of the dumpster fire that is Drupal!

Build a top-end website with Drupal

What do you like best about the product?
When clients ask "What CMS should we use?, I turn to Drupal for enterprise level solutions. Drupal is the best-in-class in the Content Marketing System open source platforms! It has a robust and ever-growing community of exceptional developers who are constantly producing exceptional plug-ins/modules.
What do you dislike about the product?
Most of what Drupal offers is fantastic, but it is the most code-heavy of the open source options. Building a fully operational Drupal site does require highly qualified developers. Don't try to save a few bucks and think you are going to get a good end product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Client wasmaking a switch to an open source CMS solution and we put out countless RFPs and it was clear that our Drupal vendors and options for the best.

What do you like best about the product?
Html/CSS capacity to customize web layouts and features.
What do you dislike about the product?
Dragging function is not easy to use especially when multiple blocks are already in use; cannot schedule publishing date/time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Website layouts. Able to customize pages as much as I want.

Gets the job done

What do you like best about the product?
Drupal has a great functionality with modular components that help those who do not have as much back-end knowledge to easily learn how to use the tool.
What do you dislike about the product?
Would be great if they could incorporate an image-cropping tool directly into the back-end. It could be that our version does not have this but it is offered for a higher price.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Drupal as our web content management system to host a site for an organization of more than 5,000 employees.

Great for big teams, not so great for lean ones

  • October 30, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Customizable, well-known CMS with a big name that executives are familiar with - can do amazing things if you have a sizable team, budget, and/or bandwidth.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not as great as Wordpress for integrations, particularly focused on lead generation. Always requires a third-party developer for customization, must be set-up correctly at the time of implementation or can be non-functional.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ability to manage content and customize web pages.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider costs, team size, and support options.

What do you like best about the product?
It's a very straight-forward and easy to use system, like Wordpress. you can edit a website without having extensive knowledge of code.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing - I think it's a great software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Using it as a content management system to share data and information as a resource center.
