Gitlab: Benefits, Features and Ease of Use

  • February 15, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It has efficient project management tools for tracking development tasks, encouraging collaboration between teams. Users receive private repository access according to individual permissions and restricted organization settings. Its continuous integration/deployment feature allows developers to find errors quickly and deploy changes securely in the production environment, making processes streamlined.
What do you dislike about the product?
Few of the things I don't like in Gitlab is it's user interface because it is confusing and hard to use. Furthermore, the storage space available for projects is inadequate for larger tasks or multiple projects. Moreover, there are not many third-party integrations, making it difficult to keep data in sync across multiple services. Lastly, automation tools are missing; this hinders code review, testing, and release management from being automated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I find that Gitlab is a great platform for managing projects and code collaboratively. It has features such as continuous integration/deployment, sprints, milestones tracking, secure code reviews, advanced role-based permissions settings and more that help me work efficiently and safely. This gives me greater agility, speed in development cycles and prevents costly mistakes. All this transparency helps increase productivity and improve collaboration between team members.

What do you dislike about the product?
It doesn't provide analytics for pipeline tracking, has slow interface, it doesn't have as large community as github.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps us in organizing our work with projects, in planning and tracking of our work, building and securing our application, helps in deploying and release of our application, and also helps in monitoring performance of our application.

Advantages and limitations of Gitlab , from my perspective.

  • February 09, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Githab provides us with a code quality function. With this tool, we get to analyze the quality of our source code. Ensuring that they are kept simple , easy to maintain and readable .
What do you dislike about the product?
Gitlab lacks adequate analytical functionality for pipeline tracking, meaning that it does not have robust tools for tracking the progress of our software development pipeline. This makes it tedious for my team to get a comprehensive overview of our development process, monitor performances , and make data-driven decisions. However, it's worth noting that GitLab has been constantly improving its features in this aspect. Nevertheless, it is still lacking compared to other specialized tools that are specifically designed for pipeline tracking and analytics.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Github's ability to automate entire continuous integration and continuous deployment ( CI/CD ) workflow , is unmatched by any other Git platform. By automating our entire CI/CD workflow, we are successfully creating secure code releases, better implementing guardrails to safeguard our deployments and deploying our applications across multiple and diverse cloud infrastructure.

An Amazing Collaborative Code Development Tool To Our Toolset

  • January 10, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Within the free tier, there is a lot of storage capacity and has user-friendly UI. It allows collaboration while boosting productivity and cutting business costs. If any errors, bringing the team together for one project is really helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Analytics should be on dashboards. More thorough documentation for several features would be beneficial like the documentation of CI features need some improvement. SLA tracking requires more precise features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps me in automating the build with no versioning issues. Planning tools including issues, task lists, project assignees, and time tracking available to help us to manage projects more quickly and effectively. It provides more secured branches and merges request approvals, merges request drafts, and push request rules.

The best open source code repository platform

  • January 05, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
GitLab is a very lite repository management tool that doesn't require a high-spec system, and it also contains DevOps workflows and CI/CD tools built-in without any extra manual integration
What do you dislike about the product?
If any experienced ones use GitLab, some terminologies are different compared to GitHub and Bitbucket, which might make them seem like an alien language. As it is free and open-source, there are many bugs that makes the user experience sloppy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
GitLab helps with providing code repository services and collaboration with team members. As it is an open-source platform, we have an excellent open-source community that helps us in critical times.

Open source solution to hosting code

  • December 20, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
GitLab is not only open source, it's free to use for open source projects. It seems more secure than its counterpart GitHub, despite being owned by themselves and having a seemingly smaller footprint.
What do you dislike about the product?
While GitLab is an enterprise product, there are many bugs in the software making the experience quite glitchy. Additionally, the code review workflow is not very well thought out nor polished. I find myself checking out code locally to conduct my own review process, rather than use the UI online.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
GitLab is a code hosting and reviewing platform, mixed with continuous integration and continuous deployment features for automated delivery of code. The software helps on the infrastructure side of development so that I can focus on the code itself.

GitLab is a great DevOps platform

  • November 30, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
GitLab is an excellent DevOps platform for software developers. Using GitLab, we can handle our whole development-to-deployment cycle.
GitLab allows storing our code in repositories. We can create a code deployment life cycle. It is free and open-source.
What do you dislike about the product?
Even though GitLab is free and open-source, it charges a high cost for many enterprise features. Dashboards need improvements; they should show analytics. Other things are good.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use GitLab for my software development and deployment. I use Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) for my clients for their development and deployment. It provides free repositories to store our code. It has good branching management. I can use git from the command line to manage the code.
