Nice UI

  • January 17, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Float has done a lot to improve its UI over the last year, making it easier to interpret and work with.
What do you dislike about the product?
No clear documentation for shortcut keys. I've been able to figure out most of them myself but my colleagues have struggled with them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's easy to see what everyone is working on and what upcoming work is on the horizon. Makes it so that it's very rare for someone to be underutilized.

Helpful for Visualization and Planning

  • January 17, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like being able to see the full overview of everyone's activities, tasks, and projects in the office at once but then search through and see only the projects I want to see or am currently working on to clear out the schedule so I can focus. I love also having specific tasks within projects, as many have long lead times and deadlines split among many different individuals.
What do you dislike about the product?
This is may be more of a problem on our end - but we have so many projects concurrently running that we ran out of colors that really contrast to visualize who is working on what at a glance. Our office also doesn't quite function by hours per day or billable hours, so it can feel strange to arrange the days like that - however, it's helpful to arrange things by hour to sort out your day and workflow.

I would also like if it integrated into our dropbox or google docs accounts - if we could pin or upload files to specific tasks. That would be a great feature to have in the future.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Because we have so many projects and such a small staff, it's helpful to be able to look at Float and see exactly who is working on what. Also there are very long leads on projects vs. shorter term timelines on projects that are currently happening, so it's helpful to be able to integrate both in one view.

Great tool for scheduling across a busy creative team

  • January 17, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The quick and intuitive means by which projects and jobs can be added, updated and moved around in schedules. It's a really handy way to both view and quickly update the full picture of workloads, schedules, availability and project progress.
What do you dislike about the product?
While excellent for immediate-term planning, I would like to see a little more in the way of options for longer-term, or non-date-specific, planning - perhaps the ability to add a "pending" column that sits persistently alongside the day and date columns, to act as a reminder of jobs that will come onto schedule soon but aren't ready to be assigned to a particular day/week!

It would also be useful to be able to less evenly proportion time across days - e.g. spread a job over two days but assign more hours to one than the other, rather than the equal split as present.

These are feature requests rather than issues, though - on the whole the experience is excellent and does exactly as you'd hope/expect.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have been trialling Float in order to replace a pen-and-whiteboard system in our office - it replicates the experience of that board almost exactly, with the added bonus that our team and other teams within the agency can view the schedule from anywhere, rather than needing to be at the office location. So far, with the exception of the minor suggested tweaks above, it has done everything we've needed it to.

Perspective From An Employee

  • January 17, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The quick visibility of my schedule for the week.
What do you dislike about the product?
Since I'm just an employee who doesn't actually do anything in Float, I really have no cons on my end. It does what I need which is to quickly check in on my allocation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's a tool to easily keep an eye on your allocation without all of the other managerially junk in the way. As an employee, I can quickly sign in, check my allocation and sign out without ever wasting time interacting with anything else.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's convenient to use to quickly check in on your allocation.

Simple to use and helps a lot with understanding team availability

  • January 17, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's overall very simple to use and the visuals are great - I'm able to very quickly understand the availability of my teammates and see which projects they are on and the timelines for all the projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
Adding PTO within a timeline of a project is somewhat confusing (I often end up deleting the entire project by accident and have to re-add it).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're able to do better planning around staffing because of how easy it is to see team availability.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Definitely a helpful tool for staffing!

Float, one of the best tools we currently use.

  • January 17, 2019

What do you like best about the product?
Kudos to you guys! I love the newer faster Float! You are making my job much easier & faster. Love the faster navigating/scrolling and the changing of a task’s time by scrolling on the schedule up or down beats the hell out of having to open the task and do it from there.
Love the new feature that you can hover over the work task and the notes appear without having to open the task.

Great job, keep it up!
What do you dislike about the product?
Would like to be able to move a task to the afternoon (or lower in the cell) for a day where it is not a full days worth of hours and there is nothing else for that employee that day. Example, I have a technician on a 4 hour training course and it is in the afternoon. He has nothing else scheduled that day but I can't move the task lower in the cell so it looks like it is scheduled for the morning. It would be nice if you could hover over the "Time off" cells and see the notes associated with it , like you can for a work task, without having to open the "time off" cell.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used to use a HUGE white board and dry erase markers for our schedule. We thought that this was the best way for us to tackle our job scheduling and Float was met with a bit of resistance once the boss said we were going to try it.
WOW, were we wrong. I would never look back now that we are using Float. One of the best tools we ever used. We are scheduling anywhere from 18 to 26 techs on this program and I fully encourage anyone even thinking of possibly trying out a program for scheduling to do your self a favor and try out Float. I'd be shocked if your not impressed by it.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I fully encourage anyone even thinking of possibly trying out a program for scheduling to do your self a favor and try out Float. I'd be shocked if your not impressed by it.

Keeping everyone on the same page

  • January 17, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's easy to schedule, reschedule and move projects around. This allows us to always see what our capacity is and where we might need to divert resources. The team always knows what they should be working on and what is upcoming.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it's hard to split projects or change details. And the mobile experience isn't that great.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Scheduling is much easier and doesn't take as long.
