Setup a bit challenging. An amazing fit for a low end laptop and for programming enthusiasts

  • September 05, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Low system requirements and hence, good fit for a low end system. Works awefully well on systems where windows may face hardware requirement issues. Fast: boot and processing. Customizable.
What do you dislike about the product?
Initial setup may be a bit confusing. Installation is pretty similar to that of windows but setting up apps and services and some necceary one time fixes may be problematic. Frequent googling about terminal instructions may turn frustrating. Some settings which were easy to modify in windows might be tough to play with in ubuntu.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Windows was corrupting frequently, my laptop didnt have the required ram and hence, the very basic problem that i wished to solve was to install a system that is compatible with the available hardware and does not promt issues every now and then. Once this problem was solved, I further admired the terminal app which offers easy programming utility.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is an amazing OS given you are good with googling skills. If you are a programming enthusiast, you may consider using it. Also, if you are deprived of the fancy hardware required to support windows OS or are facing slow processing or boot speed in windows, Ubuntu may come to the rescue.

The best OS for Technical People

  • August 20, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
This OS gives open source environment for the developers and access to different tools and facilities.
The best thing about the OS is its free and supports different software for the developers.
As a software developer , Ubuntu gives the best environment and software support for development and coding.
With the help of Ubuntu Developers can develop different Open Source Project also.
The OS takes very less RAM memory compared to other OS , this is a big advantage for me having system that contains less RAM memory.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Graphical User Interface is little poor compared to other non Linux OS.
Also This is not the best for non-tech people.
There is a little problem that the updates come more frequently.
The general people likes easy access and less command line interaction , In Ubuntu , One should understand at least few commands , which becomes headache for those who are non-techie.
Although newer version of Ubuntu is improving in GUI , but it still lacks compared to other non Linux OS.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a software developer , I work for different open source projects and also wok in Development and Coding field. I use inbuilt Apache Server for my server side work. I also do scripting by using Bash Script. Ubuntu has a great support for the development field and also for the Server side work . There are several benefits I cam across since I started using Ubuntu , Its performance , Its accessibility and the powerful Apache Server that helps me debugging and developing the project.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ubuntu is the best OS for the open source development . If someone is from the tech background , then Ubuntu helps them a lot while developing and working for their project. If someone likes a better GUI then go for other OS . For students and learners , While using Ubuntu , You can learn several tech related things . For developers , This is one and only you wanted. The ease of developing and environment this OS provides , it will help user to work in their comfort zone.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The user interface is easy to use and it is quick to start apps. Easy to install safe apps and not prone to viruses. It was also easy to connect an Android phone and get photos from the disk.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like the fact that there is usage tracking for the "Search Apps" feature right in the OS, this is not normal for an open source OS.
But apart from that, there are not many things that I dislike.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
More stable than Windows, don't need frequent updates, does not need as much RAM memory and quick. Native multi-desktop.

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu has libre office and is really easy to use. Ubuntu has faster install and faster boot and hence less time is required to set it up. Also the theme variants can be customised according to our needs. It also provides us with faster and minimal install options.
What do you dislike about the product?
One thing I dislike the most about Ubuntu is that it does not follow standards. Ubuntu breaks all the standards of linux. The error messages of ubuntu are also hard to solve and the graphic drivers are really hard to install.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am highly interested in computer networks and previously I use to practice in windows but as soon as I switched to ubuntu I was impressed. I was able to use a lot more features and commands than windows. Also I did some experiments through wireshark and also worked on the backdoor problem.
Recommendations to others considering the product:

What do you like best about the product?
It has a user friendly interface, with graphical items for new users and the linux console for experienced users. Also it is good to mention that the community is the bigger one and they are always willing to help you.
What do you dislike about the product?
The developers has improved the graphical interface with at the cost of a high price (consuming more resources) so, also It has become slower. Sometimes looks like Ubuntu won't be free anymore in the future.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use a lot the linux console because I work with communications protocols as SNMP, so I can create some scripts and scheduling them with cron.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There are faster linux distributions based on debian, but the best knowledge is on ubuntu community. They have answers for everything and if you don't know something or need help they collaborate with you.
