Ubuntu - Open source and robust OS

  • August 07, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is best operating system for programmer considering speed, command level access to OS features, also it is rarely or remotely prone to viruses.
Unlike Windows it has good softwares at free cost.
Also Ubuntu has better community than its peers.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is very less repulsive or displeasing things about Ubuntu.
One thing however to add maybe is its inability to provide gamer's a platform for playing Games.
Linux lacks a large consumer user base, which means that it might be difficult to convince mainstream developers to support the platform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Consider installing Angular Cli.
While installing Angular Cli in Windows, I faced various issues and had no clear idea to tackle them.
Whilst on Ubuntu, I had good community to back me up.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I am a full time software developer, and I have to say: I LOVE UBUNTU. It is free and amazing. Specially its server version is light and extremely powerful with very good built in security features.

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is my favorite Linux distribution. Ubuntu is available to all users completely free of charge with open-source licenses. Ubuntu has support for a huge number of languages so most users can use this system in their national language. The user interface is very simple, and every user will surely find himself there. Ubuntu has a great support schedule for the system, and security patches are often issued. Ubuntu is compatible with a huge number of devices, even with tablets. In ubuntu, I very much like the fact that compared to the biggest competitor there is no need to install drivers for hardware system is ready to use after the installation, which is very easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
- Many popular solutions are not compatible with Linux.

- A graphical interface can use a lot of resources of the computer on which it works.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu gives me the ability to use my computer comfortably without worrying about malware.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I recommend using Ubuntu for people considering changing to Linux because Ubuntu has a very simple graphical interface and the installation process is very simple.

Ubuntu is free. No spying services in the background. Very fast and responsible. Gnome completely fits my work flow. I really like 18.04 LTS version.
What do you dislike about the product?
Occasional hiccups here and there. Upgrading to never version may be "hit and miss". I have re-installing the entire OS.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our company uses ubuntu in our entire office set up. Libre office is a perfect free alternative for Microsoft Office products.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Go for it. Try it before you install it. You won't be disappointed.

Debian

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is an operating system that allows to securely install and configure administration services, such as IP assignment, user license management, web services, database services, among others. In addition as a system developer and fan of free software, I like to install and manage the services where I host my Web pages, the Apache service, Database servers, dhcp and ldap, maintaining total control of the service platform. To conclude, since I could have a good time listing things that I like about Debian is a very stable system, whose failures are counted compared to windows that the failures are recurring.
What do you dislike about the product?
What I do not dislike about Debian is that its graphical interface is very unattractive, if I have already worked with Windows or Mac, although in the latest versions it has improved, but today it is still unattractive, which makes the worker Desk feels uncomfortable. And if a user porcuriosidad seeks to try Debian, there are many users who give up trying it by its interface. Another aspect, although it could be seen as an advantage, updated their systems and programs compatible with Debian almost daily, but this requires technicians to update each command so that their programs are more efficient and consume productive working time
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For the administration of the operating system service, Debian makes it very easy for the people in charge of these tasks, facilitating the proper use of the Ministry's IT platform. Another aspect that generates benefits is that many of the Ministry's machines have an obsolete hardware configuration, Pentium IV, core-duo. Another advantage with respect to Windows, is that it is a very stable, robust and multiprocess system, which does not tend to be interrupted since if a process is out of control, it can be eliminated and the operating system continues to work.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would also recommend it for those organizations whose computers have hardware configurations with few or obsolete resources that generate problems for users to run the installed programs. Also for those companies that want to have control of their Web services, Database, Ip Addressing, password logging as ldap between other services

A flexible OS for both web hosting and personal computing

  • July 04, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love to work with the command line interface and Ubuntu has everything which I need, a black terminal and commands. I don't like the Ubuntu interface because it is not easy to understand. If you need anything, just work with the terminal. This is the best platform for the website hosting.
What do you dislike about the product?
You definitely need to have a solid understanding of filesystems and how to locate things - that was the largest barrier to entry for me. Once you develop this knowledge and learn to work a little at the command line, you're good.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to run computers and private servers with great flexibility. We can implement extensive network setups with Ubuntu's terminal, which I think is one of the most developer- friendly applications. It is also the default way to use the power of bash, which is convenient for us. With all of my experience, I have had very positive and smooth experiences working with several versions of Ubuntu. We are able to use local integrated app menus, the utility launcher and the very helpful minimizer. Locking it has never been easier and it works really great with VMware. We can generate high quality graphics and above average speed. The installation process was also easy and allowed us to get rolling with limited waiting time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ubuntu is the free Operating system. you can download it at your end and install it. If you are a developer, you can use as a web server. When you are familiar with this, just go it live. Use Ubuntu on the live platform.

    Computer Software

A beautiful Open Source operating system

  • July 02, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is one of the linux distributions that offers a functioning software centre. In addition to all the beautiful features of linux it still offers this too. Ubuntu also offers a well-organised directory structure and that is easy to navigate even for non-technical people and a powerful command line for power users. The searching on ubuntu is also blazingly fast as it indexes all files starting from root.
What do you dislike about the product?
The learning curve is a beet steep and sometimes if installing applications can be a bit tedious especially when building from source or when you run into dependency issues
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use ubuntu as my primary OS and it solves all my business problems, I use it for my everyday tasks which range from software development to leisure activities such a watching movies.
