The costs associated with the classes can be somewhat prohibitive for self-motivated learning.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have used Coursera to supplement my own professional development and content knowledge. It has also been useful when improving my own writing, and picking up new skills/knowledge in personal interest areas.

  • December 23, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Not sure what you want to be when you grow up, even if you already have professional degrees? I love the variety of free and paid courses from renowned educational institutions from around the world. Exceptional, high quality and well-developed, these courses allow students to explore their interests and develop new skills. I've taken 2 courses with certificates, thanks to their scholarships. Needless to say, I'm very thankful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing. The good far outweighs any negatives.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Developing and exploring professional skills.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
These courses are packed with resources, community interaction, projects, and other interactive materials. Take advantage!

What do you like best about the product?
Top-notch information from leading professors on the field.
What do you dislike about the product?
I started several courses but never finished. No feedback for assignment takes away the motivation. The student has to be fully self-motivated.

Learning to expand my expertise as well as to acquire knowledge in new fields.

Coursera delievers you the best source for university level education

  • December 22, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I've taken several free courses there and as far as I can say, the quality is really good (well-structured, convenient etc.) As for effectiveness of the particular course, you can always review(audit) all the offered materials and decide if it is what you are looking for before paying anything.
What do you dislike about the product?
The problem with Coursera are the moderation in the forums. From the few courses I have taken, many of my classmate were criticized heavily or bullied from other classmates for asking questions in the forum. This hasn’t give any attention with the forum moderators which makes the community feel unease with helping each other.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have taken courses like, "Introduction with MATLAB" for educational reasoning. I was able to learn a lot with the videos the course offers and the homework challenges my critical thinking skills. Cousera also have courses which requires payment. But it's definitely affordable and worth than paying over $1000 on a course in college.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Yes, anyone who is willing to invest time for their education. They could also earn certificates to aid their experience/knowledge for work related reasons.

Great variety of courses

  • December 13, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The variety of courses, the structure and the user experience. I also like the peer to peer review which brings some external opinion of our work.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some courses need updating. They are good but compared to other platforms that deliver high quality videos, some of the courses could do with a refresh. Also the length of the videos. Having shorter, snappier videos would help I think with accompanying text.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I've managed to upskill in my field
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Freemium model can be a little intrusive and offputting but the quality and variety of courses is worth it.

A great way to brush up and increase your knowledge base of a subject

  • December 12, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that the class I took was self-paced, so I could review the modules on my own time whether it be before work, after work or on the weekends.
What do you dislike about the product?
It was a little difficult to stay motivated and complete the whole class since it was self-paced. I would like to see them maybe send out emails if there is some inactivity, to try to get you to log back in and continue.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I took an Excel class, to continue my knowledge of Pivot tables and other algorithms you can use Excel for. It was a great resume booster, in addition to my current skills and I think it really showed my interviewers that I am eager to learn and grow, so I ended up getting a job I wanted due to my interest in taking classes like this. I did not take the class to try and get the job I have, but I do feel it did help set me apart from other candidates when I did end up looking for a new career.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is a great resourse if you have an interest in something, but do not want to take a full college course or go back to college. If you want to stay busy and build some skills casually, this is a great alternative to a college. It also helps boost a resume, as it shows you are genuinely interested in learning new things, and growing.

Great plataform, but expensive

  • November 23, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It has great courses from top institutions, like renowned universities. And has great exercices with great feedbacks
What do you dislike about the product?
It is too expensive, you don't get teachers feedback usually and you can take some payed courses, but you can't make the activities, and that a bummer.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am improving my curriculum and skills for my freelance work. The courses, even the ones you can't make the exercises, are really good and give a great learning for who is taking the classes.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be prepared to spend.

Experience using online learning with Coursera

  • November 19, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best part about Coursera is, it feels like you are taking classes at your school. They have a really good 'class room' experience.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's not much to hate about it actually. The place where they can improve is on recommendations and user interface in general.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coursera is solving the problem for a lot of people who want to learn but either don't have the money or the time. For me personally it has been time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Motivate the users to 'stay on learn on'. One of the issues with online learning, which is very commonly heard among in my social network, is that it is hard to keep up even with the social feature they have. Because it is online, it kind of loses a little importance. So, some other way of keeping users motivated.

Coursera Review

  • November 17, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I have helped complete over 20 courses on Coursera for my students at my peer mentoring sessions. I am extremely happy overall with my experience with it. It offers a huge spectrum of classes in many different disciplines from liberal arts, to engineering. Also, the courses are offered from big-name universities like Brown, Stanford etc making them legit and trustworthy.
What do you dislike about the product?
The prices for these courses are really high and most of my college students are not able to afford that kind of pricing. Also, there is less student interaction which makes it difficult for students to find answers for something they can't find online and is specific to the class. Maybe this can be changed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use it at UNT to help my students get certified in various courses which are essential to building a skill set and a great addition to their resumes.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The best web service for online courses, but you might want to try other software like codeacademy if you just need to learn the skills and don't care about the certificate. But definitely, if you want quality, Coursera is the place to go.
