What do you like best about the product?
AlgoSec Firewall Analyzer is an excellent tool for ensuring firewall assurance against defined standards and compliance requirements. It provides a comprehensive, single-pane view of the entire network, making it easy to understand how policies are structured and what impact potential changes may have before they are implemented. This visibility is extremely valuable for maintaining a secure and well-organized firewall environment.

Additionally, the training offered by AlgoSec is very insightful and well-structured, making it especially helpful for first-time users. It provides a solid foundation for understanding the products and their capabilities, allowing teams to quickly become proficient in managing and analyzing firewall policies.

Overall, AlgoSec Firewall Analyzer is a powerful solution for improving network security posture and streamlining firewall management.
What do you dislike about the product?
The initial configuration can be a bit complex and time-consuming, especially in environments with multiple vendors and large, distributed networks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Managing complex firewall environments across multiple vendors can be challenging, especially when trying to maintain compliance, optimize policies, and prevent misconfigurations. Without clear visibility, it’s difficult to predict the impact of policy changes, which can lead to outages, compliance gaps, and security risks. AlgoSec solves this by providing a centralized view of all firewall policies, automating compliance checks, and continuously monitoring for risky or overly permissive rules. It simplifies audits by generating detailed, ready-to-use compliance reports and helps teams quickly identify and remediate violations, ensuring standards are consistently met.

AlgoSec’s policy impact simulation is especially valuable, as it shows exactly what will be affected before changes are made, reducing human error and avoiding downtime. This not only strengthens the organization’s overall security posture but also improves operational efficiency, saving time on troubleshooting and change management. With AlgoSec, firewall management becomes smarter, more secure, and more efficient, while giving teams the confidence that every change is both compliant and low-risk.

Empowers organizations to reduce change management time by 80% and improve audit efficiency

  • June 16, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for AlgoSec is related to the AlgoSec firewall analyzers, as a bank I work with has multiple firewalls and they want to implement and deploy this firewall analyzer along with fire flow, integrating it with their service now system. It's an interesting opportunity for new learning, and I am confident that I will deliver those solutions on time to the client, particularly after having requested assistance during the user-level AlgoSec sessions, leading to prompt support from your team.

Currently, the bank does not have any proper solution in place, which is a significant gap.

The proposed plan includes preparations and documentation regarding AlgoSec, which I represent on behalf of AlgoSec. My explanations cover the future benefits of adopting this technology, as they struggle with tracking properly configured rules, which requires constant cleanup activities on the firewalls. We need to follow change processes, whether standard, normal, or emergency, and with the help of AlgoSec fire flow, we can meet these tasks in a timely manner, while AlgoSec firewall analyzer will be instrumental in tracking firewall traffic, identifying issues, and minimizing operational overhead.

Earlier, tracking changes was a challenge, but if I implement a new change in the same location months later, I can easily retrieve the necessary information thanks to AlgoSec. This capability drastically reduces our time spent on manual processes, which previously consumed five to ten hours per firewall for reviews, especially during approval workflows and rule implementations.

With AlgoSec, I believe we save up to 80% of the time involved in security change management processes when using fire flow, compared to manual methods. The manual process typically took anywhere from two to five days for completion, while fire flow enables us to finalize changes in less than 24 hours for low-risk changes, marking a significant efficiency improvement.

How has it helped my organization?

AlgoSec has significantly improved our organization by automating security policy management and change processes, reducing manual efforts and human errors. With FireFlow, we’ve accelerated change implementations, cut turnaround time by up to 80%, and enhanced compliance reporting. This has helped us ensure better security posture and operational efficiency across complex network environments.AlgoSec has significantly improved our organization by automating security policy management and change processes, reducing manual efforts and human errors. With FireFlow, we’ve accelerated change implementations, cut turnaround time by up to 80%, and enhanced compliance reporting. This has helped us ensure better security posture and operational efficiency across complex network environments.

What is most valuable?

AlgoSec offers essential features such as risk management, policy optimization, change management, traffic simulation, and compliance auditing. Risk management is crucial for security, enabling deep analysis and threat prioritization, while traffic simulation allows interactive diagnostics for operational traffic management. Change management includes tools for monitoring policy changes and ensuring compliance with security standards, making these features significant for any organization.

AlgoSec positively impacts my organization by reducing operation burden, enhancing time efficiency, and saving costs associated with security management.

AlgoSec firewall analyzer helps with policy complexity by identifying unused or redundant rules and objects, recommending optimizations such as merging similar rules and removing unnecessary allows. Over time, firewalls can accumulate risky configurations, leading to increased overhead and troubleshooting time, but with AlgoSec, we simplify our rule sets, improve firewall performance, and facilitate faster change implementations.

What needs improvement?

One improvement I see for AlgoSec is implementing an optimized rule cleanup and recertification process to address the challenge of companies neglecting clean-up recommendations. Establishing a quarterly or bi-annual certification process and automating aspects of the change process can enhance utilization and operational efficiency, pushing for automatic approvals where the risk is minimal.

During the AlgoSec training, I learned that the program spans nine hours over three days, which feels excessive considering the frequent breaks. I'd suggest reducing the overall time and increasing the number of days to help better balance personal and professional responsibilities.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been aware of AlgoSec for around five years, having initially worked with it, but after moving across multiple countries, I did not get a chance to use it until recently, reigniting my interest in learning about this technology.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

AlgoSec is stable in my experience, offering many good features that contribute to its reliability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

AlgoSec scales both vertically within a single appliance and horizontally across multiple coordinated nodes, managing varying device numbers based on requirements, from small setups of about 20 devices to large enterprises supporting over 1,000.

How are customer service and support?

Overall, AlgoSec's customer support is highly responsive and specialized for security operation teams managing complex environments, providing service coverage during business hours and essential 24x7 support for critical cases.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not use a different solution before AlgoSec. I evaluated Tufin Network Security Policy Management solution as a competitor to AlgoSec prior to my decision.

How was the initial setup?

Highly knowledgeable engineers familiar with firewalls, cloud, and network security

• Good documentation and self-service knowledge base

• Personalized help on complex integrations and deployments

What was our ROI?

I have witnessed a return on investment with AlgoSec by reducing the manual efforts involved in policy reviews and enabling faster operations, ultimately enhancing our security posture.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing and licensing for AlgoSec depend entirely on custom quotes based on the organization's specific needs. My experience as a cybersecurity consultant prevents me from diving deep into pricing discussions, but licensing typically follows a device-based structure, factoring in firewall clusters and subscription options, with an estimated range of $50,000 to $100,000 for smaller deployments.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

NA

What other advice do I have?

On a scale of one to ten, I would rate AlgoSec customer support a nine, highlighting the nearly perfect service experience but noting room for improvement in several areas.

To those considering AlgoSec, I advise that it is straightforward to configure and understand, emphasizing the automation of change management and improved documentation, which significantly cuts down manual errors and time spent on audits and compliance.

I rate AlgoSec a ten out of ten overall.

Enables us to clearly see the accesses to the application in the environment

  • July 16, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We have four firewalls and two routers in our environment. We also have a business application. At first, it was very difficult to connect to each firewall individually, see my environment as a whole, and determine where traffic was being blocked and who made changes. AlgoSec provides a solution to all of this in a single platform.

Being able to see where traffic is blocked using traffic simulation provides me with great convenience. Additionally, with FireFlow, I can handle this in a single action instead of taking actions on each firewall individually.

How has it helped my organization?

Thanks to Algosec, especially with the FireFlow and AppViz modules, I have managed the regulation compliance I need to adhere to through baseline compliance and checked my compliance with it. Without connecting to my firewalls one by one, I was able to handle all my changes with FireFlow in a single-handed manner according to a specific plan. I was able to clearly see the accesses to the application in my environment and the vulnerabilities of the application. The reports section was very useful in tightening up my policies.

What needs improvement?

Country-specific regulations should be added when required. Doing this on my own with baseline compliance is quite difficult.

Additionally, I would like AlgoSec to provide suggestions such as "this object includes that object" for my objects on the Check Point firewall. For my Fortigate manager, the support of the active change feature is important to me.

Lastly, the FireFlow interface could be simplified a bit more. I agree that it is user-friendly, but on the other hand, it can be difficult to organize and find certain things.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using AlgoSec for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We haven't encountered any interruptions while the product is running. It operates very stably.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We can add devices very quickly whenever we need to, with additional licenses.

How are customer service and support?

I received sufficient and useful responses within a maximum of one day.

How was the initial setup?

Straightforward. We imported the ova file and that's all, then just clicked add devices.

What was our ROI?

It has been a very useful and suitable investment for us.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The setup is very easy, and while I can't say anything definitive about the pricing in terms of competition, licensing is also quite straightforward.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We have tried Tuffin.
