What is our primary use case?
App Flow, Firewall Analyzer, and FireFlow are utilized. For gap-cleaning efforts to improve the firewalls and to gain visibility into firewall rules, we use AlgoSec. In order to maintain a clean environment, have a set of firewalls that are optimized, and then automate the deployment of firewall rules, we also employ the solution as a firewall assurance tool.
Our goal is to increase our understanding of firewall regulations. We utilized this tool to conduct a gap-cleaning project and tidy up our firewalls. Furthermore, we rely on this solution as a firewall assurance tool to ensure our rules are optimized and up to date. Additionally, we use this tool to automate the entire process of deploying firewall rules, ensuring a smooth change process in FireFlow, and allowing us to automatically deploy the firewalls on our appliances.
How has it helped my organization?
Security policy management entails far more than simply inspecting a device and applying certain rules. It is all about improving and automating time-consuming security processes so that staff can concentrate on more strategic responsibilities. AlgoSec FireFlow, for example, enables enterprises to process security policy changes in minutes or hours rather than days or weeks. It automates the entire security policy change process, from design and submission to proactive risk analysis, implementation, validation, and auditing, using intelligent, highly customizable processes.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable aspects of the solution include:
Dealing with misconfigurations. Automating manual processes reduces misconfigurations and prevents nearly all firewall breaches caused by misconfigurations, rather than flaws.
Automation as a strategy. Network policy automation is not an end unto itself. Rather, it supports the business strategy of maintaining security, ensuring SLAs, increasing cooperation, and reducing friction between departments. It improves competitive differentiation through better customer engagement, e.g., by moving applications to the cloud. Network policy automation aids regulatory compliance, and frees IT time from housekeeping so it can be applied to digital transformation and supporting strategic initiatives.
Understanding visibility requirements. With the help of advanced NSPM tools, network administrators and security managers can gain a deeper understanding of their network devices and business applications. By analyzing traffic flows across various vendor devices and hybrid infrastructures, they can identify security vulnerabilities, simplify troubleshooting, and uncover new applications and services.
What needs improvement?
To provide comprehensive instructions on product integration, a manual page can be added to the dashboard at the integration point. This will make it simple for the system administrator to incorporate new goods, even if they are unfamiliar with them thoroughly. Every time we integrate a new product, we shouldn't have to wait for coordinated work with a product specialist.
Due to the fact that AlgoSec's user interface is less friendly than that of other programs, it might not be appropriate for persons with little experience in security or IT. It does, however, allow for more customization. As a result, the interface can be regarded as more sophisticated.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for the last two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
For cybersecurity, AlgoSec automates application connectivity flows reliably.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability is available via:
High-Availability. AlgoSec appliances can be clustered for fault tolerance, ensuring availability if system components fail.
Disaster Recovery. AlgoSec appliances can automatically synchronize data with offsite appliances to provide redundancy and ensure data preservation in the event of a failure at the primary site.
Geographically Distributed Architecture. AlgoSec appliances can be deployed across distributed sites for the local collection of logs and rulesets.
This data is then efficiently transmitted to a central appliance for processing.
Load Sharing. AlgoSec appliances can be clustered to share data workloads across multiple appliances for faster data analysis and reporting.
How are customer service and support?
It was a wonderful experience dealing with customer service and support.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward.
What about the implementation team?
We implemented the solution in-house.
What was our ROI?
We've noted ROI in the following ways:
Automation. By analyzing the firewall rulesets, the network topology, and your corporate security policy, FireFlow can save more than 50% of the time required to process a firewall change. From automatically pinpointing the exact devices that need to be changed, to proactively assessing the risk and designing the change in the most optimal way. With AlgoSec’s ActiveChange technology, administrators can also automatically execute the change on the firewall and save even more time.
Accuracy. As much as 30% of requested firewall changes are not required, and many others are implemented incorrectly. FireFlow can automatically identify and close “already works” requests, and also ensure changes are performed exactly as requested.
Auditing. In order to meet regulatory and internal security requirements, IT find themselves spending a lot of time ensuring each change is properly documented to address any questions an auditor may have. FireFlow maintains a detailed history of every step of every change request and saves precious time. It even identifies changes that were performed without a formal request.
What other advice do I have?
AlgoSec is a useful firewall management tool for organizations that require management of multiple firewall levels.
Simplifies tasks, helps with audits, and extradites firewall rule implementation
What is our primary use case?
Our team operates within the support division, assisting customers who primarily utilize AlgoSec through on-premises deployments. They rely on this solution to analyze and manage firewall policies, enhance their security measures, and receive recommendations for optimizing their firewalls.
Specifically, we utilize the AlgoSec Firewall Analyzer component of the solution. Recently, we conducted a proof of concept (POC) of AppViz for a customer who utilizes FireFlow. This POC was successful, and it is likely that some of our other customers may express interest in implementing AppViz within the coming year.
How has it helped my organization?
Implementing firewall rules within our organization has been significantly expedited thanks to AlgoSec.
This product plays a crucial role in preparing us for audits and ensuring firewall compliance. With its assistance, we are able to assess security and firewall rating points, offering valuable advice to our customers regarding the optimization of their firewall and security rules.
One of the key benefits of AlgoSec is its ability to simplify the tasks of our security engineers. By providing essential guidance to administrators responsible for managing firewalls, streamlines their responsibilities and enhances their efficiency in carrying out their duties.
What is most valuable?
The Firewall Analyzer component of the solution offers remarkable compatibility and proves to be highly valuable and easily manageable.
Our customers have found the Intelligent Policy Tuner to be incredibly helpful, and during the proof of concept (POC), it emerged as a significant selling point for our clients. They expressed great interest in utilizing this feature.
Setting the log options to "extensive" provides us with excellent visibility into our network security policies. This extensive logging enables us to generate detailed reports and receive change notifications, thereby enhancing our overall visibility.
AlgoSec plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive visibility into the risks associated with firewall change requests. This feature proves especially important when presenting security reports to upper management.
The solution's automation capabilities significantly contribute to reducing human error and misconfigurations. If the tool detects a drop in security and firewall policy points, it promptly notifies administrators via email about potential misconfigurations. This proactive approach allows us to promptly address and rectify any issues, ensuring that the security and policy points are restored.
What needs improvement?
Introducing greater flexibility in editing alerts would be a highly appreciated improvement.
The solution currently faces visibility and compatibility challenges when it comes to Palo Alto firewalls, making it difficult to generate reports. Since the reports heavily rely on logging, the product encounters obstacles with Palo Alto's logging system. Enhancing compatibility with Palo Alto firewall reports is crucial for seamless reporting.
A notable customer demand is the implementation of a user-based policy within AlgoSec. This feature would enable the solution to provide advice on user policy rules while also ensuring compatibility with identity awareness functionalities. Meeting this customer requirement would be highly beneficial.
Points out redundancies, increases visibility, and helps manage firewall rules
What is our primary use case?
We needed to review unused rules and delete them. However, I also wanted to view my unused objects and NAT rules. Algosec met my needs.
How has it helped my organization?
What is most valuable?
The product was able to present how many rules were redundant and how many shadow rules were in a gateway. Thanks to this visibility, I was able to do my rule optimization. Thus, my firewall rules were fewer, and fewer rules were checked when traffic passed through the firewall. In this way, it was possible for traffic to pass through the firewall faster.
What needs improvement?
The simulation can be improved. Networks and interfaces to which the firewall is connected are kept in a visual simulation. The rules could also show us the traffic on these networks in red and green. When we add a rule, we should be able to see what kind of traffic obstruction we can cause and what can be improved. In the next release, it would be fun to visually present the dashboard with animations.
Good features with great traffic planning and risk analysis
What is our primary use case?
I started working with AlgoSec to integrate change opening tools with some clients as I work at an AlgoSec reseller.
I have customized hooks so that custom actions could be triggered within AlgoSec, before implementing the active change I worked to generate scripts to clean up the checkpoint firewall rule base based on AlgoSec reports. My experiences with AlgoSec have always been with end-user support, especially when it comes to software development. That said, I've also done an installation and helped the customer create the approval flow.
How has it helped my organization?
AlgoSec has been a partner in my company for many years, with which we can improve our customers' experience.
It adds many facilities in the management of network equipment, due to the ease in analyzing the rule base. It helps firewalls to have a better performance since the rules are positioned more efficiently and unnecessary rules and objects are removed.
The training provided by AlgoSec helps a lot in the development of employees who work with the tool.
I recently discovered the "ask the community" option and it made problem-solving a lot easier.
What is most valuable?
All of AlgoSec's features are very good, however, in my point of view traffic planning and risk analysis are the most important, with them we can have a view of which items will be affected by the change, which objects need to be created or used, which rules will be affected, with that we can have a much more optimized base and easier to maintain.
With the risk analysis, we can customize it according to the company because each client may have a different risk scenario.
The possibility of customization also makes the job much easier.
What needs improvement?
Plugins for integration with other tools as ServiceNow, for example, would be ideal. This would facilitate the work without needing a developer to carry out integrations, mainly for market tools.
We need a screen to view system logs. This would facilitate the problem analysis process. The possibility of placing buttons in another system to trigger actions within AlgoSec would be great. For example, placing an HTML button in ServiceNow that triggers the active change. Being able to view the ticket flow within other tools would be useful.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution for three years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I've always worked with the standalone version.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
