Snowflake Computing Review

  • February 07, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like software. I think this is a good fit with our company because it aligns with the best interest of the customers. It allowed us create software solutions that were based on customer needs and create value and ROI with a financial spin for a software solution
What do you dislike about the product?
I would like the functionalities of adding/deleting to be navigated easier.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have realized opportunities to attack different verticals as a company with the confidence of cloud computing in snowflake computing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think I'm happy with what work Snowflake has done for our computing and I look forward to seeing it evolve and being on that ride.

Data Management Solution for the future

  • January 31, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The fact that compute is actually separated from the storage. This makes scaling so much easier but it also makes it much more cost effective. Now that they got the pricing model down to one minute increments this platform is extremely accessible no matter what size the organization and\or data.
What do you dislike about the product?
Loading data into the environment can be clumsy. But once you get the hang of it, it is fairly straightforward to automate with standard ETL tools.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are addressing our needs for business intelligence reporting. Time to insight has decreased significantly and we are able to ask much better questions of our data at a deeper level of granularity.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure when comparing to competitors that you scrutinize the concept of storage being completely separate from compute. Also understand that there will be a need to adjust the way that you load data into the environment. While it is a standard database for querying it is not very performant on update and inserts.

Cost Efficient SQL with massive scalability!

  • January 29, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
UI, Querying speed, Quality of Support, Technology Events, query concurrency and the massive scalability they support!
What do you dislike about the product?
They have confusing terminologies that aren't very intuitive such as Warehousing, Databases. Also, they need to make data loading a lot more intuitive and easy. It should not take me more than 5 mins of time to get this done, even when I am new to Snowflake!

Also they need to make computing more affordable or give huge enterprise discounts.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Writing SQL queries on massive amounts of RDBMS and JSON data. Also sharing queries was easy with SnowFlake.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Go for it. A lot better than Redshift, BigQuery, RDS, Azure SQL etc..etc!

The Data Warehouse for the Non-Technical Analyst

  • January 27, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The UI is modern and the interface is intuitive. The tool is highly customizable and sits on top of Amazon S3 for seamless data access.
What do you dislike about the product?
The interface for running SQL-like queries is clunky.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our non-technical director formats and uploads manual data for ingestion into our larger data pipeline.

Snowflake stands ahead and deliver best result for cloud data warehouse computing

  • December 29, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to deploy and give great flexibility as Snowflake automatically scale up and scale down.
Great thing about Snowflake is having fundamentally solid SQL with lots of elasticity and easily works on dynamic environment.Snowflake support diverse set of data which include both structured and non structured data. Snowflake have very good customer support and answer the user queries very quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
Speed and agility can be improved. Snowflake, is based on a non MPP database design which can delay automation and can take time for adhoc workload.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Snowflake easily automates the sizing, provisioning, maintenance, and scaling of cloud data warehouse.

SNOWFLAKE REVIEW

  • April 06, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
FAST, CLOUD BASED, GOOD UI, CHEAPER THAN AMAZON REDSHIFT
What do you dislike about the product?
MULTIPLE QUERIES CAUSES PROBLEMS RUNNING AT THE SAME TIME, MORE AGGREGATE FUNCTIONS COULD BE SUPPORTED
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
WE ARE HOSTING OUR BILLION ROW DATA-SET INTO SNOWFLAKE FOR QUERYING BY THE ANALYSTS . CERTAINLY BETTER OPTION THAT DATA BRICKS SPARK
Recommendations to others considering the product:
DEFINITELY AN ALSTERNATIVE TO AMAZON RED SHIFT AND SPARK

Snowflake and bigquery are database 2.0

  • January 04, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
JSON / XML parsing from s3 to nice relational tables. Stupendously easy to set up and get data in.

Cheap storage, plus standalone compute cost.

Provides a data layer where the policy can simply be, "Is it data? Then dump it into snowflake", which increases velocity in analytics, BI, diagnostics, and testing.
What do you dislike about the product?
Black-boxed indexes / projections.

It's both a blessing and a curse - new architecture gets built quickly, and query performance is generally solid, but some brain-dead obvious indexing doesn't persist in some cases, which can cause certain operations to be needlessly slow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data storage, JSON / XML / AVRO parsing and aggregation, business intelligence, data science. The main benefits for us have been in improving design velocity and overall data access throughout the company.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There is no reason not to test it. It took us just a couple of hours using the tool for the light bulb to come on.
