Review of LaunchDarkly by a Software Developer
What do you like best about the product?
LaunchDarkly makes feature flagging incredibly easy, allowing me to manage releases without redeploying code. Its intuitive interface and seamless integration with CI/CD pipelines are fantastic for quick feature toggles.
What do you dislike about the product?
The pricing structure can be steep for smaller projects, and I wish there were more out-of-the-box analytics for tracking feature performance over time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It solves the problem of risky feature deployments by allowing me to toggle features on or off instantly, reducing downtime and making the release process smoother.
Great experience with UI but IAM provides hinderence
What do you like best about the product?
appreciate the flexibility that LaunchDarkly provides, especially when it comes to changing critical parameters, like the threshold of the transcoding queue, on the fly without any downtime. The UI is intuitive and well-designed, making it easy to navigate and manage feature flags. The explanations for different terminologies are clear and helpful, making it accessible even for team members who might not be familiar with the more technical aspects of feature flag management.
What do you dislike about the product?
However, I find that replicating the entire Amazon IAM role architecture for role management is overkill. While security is important, the complexity of this setup adds unnecessary overhead to managing access control. The role management system could be simplified without sacrificing flexibility or security, making it easier to configure permissions for users and teams.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We wanted to update some transcoding paramter on fly where we could not afford any downtime

UI and how things are classified in appropiate tabs and sections.

Recent UI change where the variation edit and other items were moved.

Helping us release a lot of features in prod with confidence. Also helping us manage so many feaure flags.

Very easy to use, good UI and features are also very easy to use.

Sometimes role assigment doesn't work properly, not able to select role to assig it to user, have to cancel and re-edit the user role.

It is providing a single dashboard to manage all the feature flags with an option of having custom rules. This helps in enabling a feature for a certain set of users.
Powerful tool to manage feature flags
What do you like best about the product?
This is very useful tool when it comes to managing feature flags, A/B flags etc. It's easy to integrate with the CI/CD tools. The deployment process becomes very easy as the flags can be managed at realtime
What do you dislike about the product?
The free tier of LaunchDarkly is quite limited, which may not be sufficient for teams needing more advanced features or larger scale usage. This can be a barrier for smaller projects or startups.

I love everything about Launch Darkly. There SDK APIs are very easy to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the LD connection breaks for a brief moment but thats manageable for out services.

We're able to rollout a feature for specfic platforms and and countries.
Good for managing dynamic features of App or Web.

Easy to use, integrate
What do you like best about the product?
The UI is really good, I can order the values/keys and visualize it. There is virtually no latency.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some parts of the documentation is excessively verbose

We use LD heavily for A/B testing in production env. It also makes it easy to short circuit logic with flag values.
It is pretty easy to understand how the software product works with little-to-no-experience.
What do you like best about the product?
It's really simple to target specific platforms and/or rollout to a specific percentage of users. I really like how simple the configuration is to change.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI changes as of late are way too intense. I don't like how much white space there is and the distinction between dev and prod is not clear enough in my opinion.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
LaunchDarkly allows us to ship features more quickly on mobile. We can ship our app and then when we are fully ready flip the feature flag on to enable the feature.
