In most platforms, a "node" is a flat entity; in PRTG, I can treat a mission-critical SQL Cluster with the 50+ specific metrics it deserves while giving a simple unmanaged switch just a basic Uptime and Ping sensor.
However, the real "hero" feature is the Custom EXE/Script Sensor. I’ve encountered proprietary PLC hardware and ancient industrial controllers that don't speak a lick of SNMP or WMI. By writing lightweight Python wrappers, I can extract data from these relics and push it into PRTG via XML or JSON. It effectively bridges the gap between the factory floor and the IT office, making "invisible" hardware fully observable.

Operating in 2026, the mandatory Windows Core Server feels like a technical debt anchor. While I appreciate the ease of setup, managing a full Windows license and the inevitable "Patch Tuesday" reboot cycle just to keep my monitoring platform online is frustrating. I’m looking for a containerized or hardened Linux appliance for the Core—similar to how they’ve handled the Mini Probes.
Furthermore, UI responsiveness takes a hit at scale. Once your environment expands beyond the 10,000-sensor mark, the AJAX-heavy "Tree View" begins to tax the browser’s DOM. Navigating deep hierarchies becomes sluggish, which is the last thing you want when you're trying to triage an outage.

PRTG Network Monitor offers a single-pane dashboard where we can monitor all the servers on one single screen. We can monitor all the servers with a single eye, which helps our team to detect a failed server quickly. Earlier we used to monitor those servers manually one after each, but now we can monitor those servers in a single dashboard easily. This saves our team time checking each server manually, which in turn also reduces downtime.
What needs improvement?
The reporting features look very technical and that can be improved. If they can change the report so everyone can understand it, that would be helpful.
