UiPath offers end-to-end automation for many applications, but I encountered challenges with NetSuite, an ERP web app. The connection kept failing due to NetSuite's slow loading times. While UiPath has built-in connectors for these situations, the lag prevented interaction with the NetSuite interface entirely.
The UiPath user community is a large and active resource for users of all levels. With community pages dedicated to specific countries, users can easily find information relevant to their needs. The community fosters knowledge sharing and learning, allowing users to stay up-to-date on the latest UiPath features. I've submitted feedback to UiPath, including a suggestion to improve the slow mainframe connection currently limited to a 300ms timeout. Focusing on the connector would be a user-preferred approach, allowing interaction with applications like ServiceNow, SAP, or Salesforce and future ones like Dynamics 365 or ERPs through activities instead of custom code. This reduces development time and reliance on technical expertise simplifies maintenance for future teams, and provides a user-friendly, reusable component.

I've encountered various issues with UiPath products, including activity connection problems that worked fine during development but not in production, occasional defects, and personal knowledge gaps. Sometimes these were bugs addressed in later patches or releases. To find solutions, I'd first search the UiPath forum for answers shared by other developers. If unsuccessful, I'd submit technical support tickets based on our UiPath service level. Responses came quickly, and for premium support, we could directly contact our technical account managers for immediate issue resolution.
We can expect an email response after submitting our ticket. Response times for standard support subscriptions range from one to two days, with issue resolution taking up to four days. Premium support offers immediate response and prioritizes issues based on the number of affected machines and their importance in our workflow.

UiPath deployment is very manageable. With their cloud option, they handle everything and provide a URL for easy access. Even on-premise deployments are straightforward thanks to UiPath's clear documentation. While some IT team coordination is needed for on-premise security and Active Directory integration, the process is generally simple and can be done within a few days. Overall, cloud deployment is the easiest option, but on-premise is also achievable with good IT support.
UiPath deployment on the cloud is fast, but additional setup is needed for large organizations. While integrating with our existing IT directory keeps user creation a few hours, creating separate environments, machines, licenses, and folders can take a few days depending on the complexity of environments, machines, libraries, and use cases.
One admin person is sufficient for deployment from our end.

I evaluated Power Automate but UiPath has more features.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Uipath seven out of ten. UiPath's process mining feature, while desired by many users, appears to be limited in its current functionality. Since many haven't implemented it yet. UiPath still needs to refine this area.

What is our primary use case?
In Brazil, we have some standard processes. Some companies operate in similar ways. I cannot give all the details, but there is a process for financial invoices. We normally use UiPath to automate this process.
What is most valuable?
Using UiPath is very easy. Even for new users or developers who are just starting, it is easy to use. You just need to drag and drop the activity, so it is very easy to start using. We have UiPath Academy, which is very helpful when you need to learn something. When anyone is starting to use UiPath here in my company, we recommend starting with UiPath Academy. It helps a lot in every project that we have here.
Also, there is the community, which is very helpful. We have lots of users, and for every question that we have, we can just Google it, and then we can find the answers in the community. Almost all the questions that we have can be found in the community, which is very helpful. We also have different integrations with different services, and this is very helpful as well.
What needs improvement?
I do not have any complaints about the tools themselves. They work very well. The only problem is the cost. It was more accessible initially, and we could have more resources with the same license. Now, the license is different, and we need a license for each tool that we have, so it is not very accessible to have all of the tools for installation.

For instance, we had trouble with the database while using UiPath on-premise and connected to support. They were very helpful, addressing the issue in three hours. Therefore, I would rate customer service a ten. It's a very easy tool to use, so normally, we do not encounter many troubles. But when we do, the answers are either in the community, or we contact support.

In the beginning, the return on investment is quick. As automation scales, requiring more licenses, it becomes more expensive. At first, processes save money, but eventually, automation without cost savings occurs due to licensing costs.

What is most valuable?
Document Understanding allows me to track information not only from structured documents but also from unstructured documents through artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques. These are excellent tools. Additionally, the process understanding enables me to track and manage document processing effectively. Ease of building automation includes utilizing tools to record the process and generate the initial process design document.

I have just generated the default pilot. I believe another option for the tool could be voice interaction. For example, similar to using assistants like Alexa, it would be beneficial to integrate voice commands with the UI to create an Excel spreadsheet and populate a data table.

Building automation is easier with UiPath than with Automation Anywhere or Blue Prism. UiPath's centralized platform offers a more intuitive user experience, and its extensive online community provides readily available answers to your questions.
It allows for the creation of end-to-end automation workflows, even for tasks with imperfect results. For instance, if an AI extracts data from a PDF with a low confidence level, UiPath can trigger the creation of a ticket in an action center. This ticket would then be assigned to a human for review, who can confirm the data's accuracy or return the document to the AI model for improvement.

It makes automation very easy. There are some use cases where you need a small amount of coding. It's a very low-code way of automating. That means you don't need much knowledge to start building what you need. Overall, it's easy to learn. You can even Google questions and find solutions to your queries.
We can make end-to-end automation, even though I might now always use it that way.
The user community is very good. On their own website, you can find a lot of great information.Their documentation allows you to understand it pretty well. There are videos as well. While Microsoft's automation platform is still evolving and lacks features like UiPath's orchestrator, it excels in native integrations with Microsoft products like Outlook and SharePoint. However, for SAP integrations, UiPath provides exclusive activities that are crucial for automating tasks within our system.
How was the initial setup?
In 2018 when I first deployed UiPath I found it to be complex but now that I have more experience, the deployment is straightforward.
Our team created three AWS accounts, designating one of them. We then set up, launched, and deployed the orchestration tool on the first account. After performing a POC and gaining leadership approval, we spun up two additional accounts for QA with UiPath's ongoing support throughout the year. Finally, we deployed additional machines and established a Cloud Operating Validation environment.
In-house we required eight people for the deployment.

From a user's perspective, a well-defined plan is crucial. Don't buy one license for one process if you have 50! Having a full pipeline of automation justifies the cost. UiPath is a strong contender, earning a rating of nine out of ten. However, its high price tag prevents it from achieving a perfect score.
Automated processes require maintenance every three to six months. Additionally, training a robot using hypercapnia elevated CO2 may take three to six months. To ensure successful implementation, we need to identify potential robot failure points and mistakes. We'll simulate these scenarios during training to refine their character responses and behaviors. Following the training period, we'll transition to periodic monitoring. This monitoring will gradually decrease as we analyze data logs and the overall system performance through the central management tool.

Having expertise in IPaaS has allowed us to create a lot of automation for our clients that they normally couldn't automate. It's a profitable solution in that sense. Also, it automates many steps that normally would require a lot of FTEs to do that work. You can ensure it's being done on time without any human errors.
What is most valuable?
The UI automation is excellent. Being able to automate clicks on desktop applications and browsers is very helpful. A lot of the other tools are very good at automating online system processes and similar things. However, when it comes to desktop UI automation, they are by far the leader.
What needs improvement?
They're just starting to add a lot of AI functionality, so there's definitely room for improvements in leveraging the latest AI technologies - like GPT, et cetera.

UiPath support is quite good. Sometimes they take a bit to get back to us, however, most of the time, they are pretty responsive.
They do have a higher tier of service that costs more, and they are quite excellent.

I use both UiPath and Power Automate. We used to use a tool called Win Automation. We switched from then due to the fact that they were prone to failure and did not have enough tools to meet expectations. They have since been acquired by Microsoft, and Microsoft Power Automate is based on that.
How was the initial setup?
I'd rate the initial setup eight out of ten. It's pretty easy to implement.
We use Azure Virtual Machines to deploy the robots and usually use a lot of the Azure services in conjunction with the robots. The cloud is on UiPath's automation cloud. That's where we have our servers - to manage the robust deployed data on multiple virtual machines.
In terms of maintenance, there are always releases and updates, and then you can usually design your own robots to watch over the other robots, which is really interesting. You have the flexibility to make your own monitoring; if it sees something wrong, you can enter a ticket and then dispatch it to the support team to respond to it.
My whole developer team is involved in maintenance; however, I have specific support team members. There's 28 developers and seven support team members in that group.
What was our ROI?
We witnessed an ROI fairly quickly. For the cost of one developer license, you can produce a lot of automation. The robot license is a 24/7 one-year license. If you can run bots 24 hours nonstop on it when you can run many different processes, each process can save hours, hundreds of hours of time for employees. There's also a lot of savings from your customer side on being able to service things quicker as well. That you can't fully quantify; however, you find you can offer better customer service in terms of speed of transaction, et cetera. Even if you spend $10,000 to $15,000 on a robot license, you quickly recover your costs.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is very competitive. There are some parts of the solution that are considered consumable, and as you consume more, you increase the cost. However, that's similar to other products out there. There might be extra costs for AI units, robot units, and data services. That said, what they give you out of the box for every license is usually sufficient for most enterprises.

I would advise new users that the biggest part is to always sync in reusable components. That will drive your ROI much quicker. If you can reuse pieces or design them in a way that they're reusable, then you can use them across multiple processes instead of redoing the work over and over. Thinking modular from the beginning is going to go a long way.

UiPath has impacted our operational efficiency quite a lot. There are a lot of scenarios where it has helped the end users. We also have benefited financially from it. We have streamlined the processes to an extent. We initially started with a basic data migration process, and now, we have our own intelligent automation and hyper-automation framework. We just get the requirement, put it in the framework, and start automating. We have progressed a lot.
UiPath enables us to implement end-to-end automation. There are certain instances where we do not get end-to-end automation, but those are the things that are out of RPA's capabilities.
End-to-end automation is important because we can showcase our capability more efficiently in front of our management and the client. We can show that something can be 100% automated if there is a use of 100% automation.
They have UiPath Academy. When UiPath was new, we did not have any online resources to go and learn. The YouTube community was small. There were no courses on Udemy or any of the online platforms. The offline platforms were also minimal. UiPath Academy was one place where we could go and learn and prepare for the exam. I got certified when UiPath certifications were free. I have done all the learning from UiPath Academy. As I move up in my role and responsibilities, if I want to learn a few more things, UiPath Academy is still the best place. You get a very crisp and clear understanding of everything.
We use UiPath’s artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities for hyper-automation. In my understanding, RPA in the initial days was limited to redundant process automation, whereas now, the use of AI Fabric and other components makes the automation more intelligent. We can add decision-making to existing automation. There were many processes where we had stalled the process just because the next step was a decision-making step, and someone had to come and make a decision to move forward. Now, we have our own AI team to build the code that can make decisions on behalf of a person and also learn from the existing behaviors. That helps quite a lot.
UiPath saves time. It saves about 50% of the time. It never saves 100% of the time because we also spend a lot of time maintaining and doing enhancements to the process. Processes are never stable.
We have integrated it with multiple tools. The outcome has been very good. There have been challenges at times with the development, but the integration has been smooth so far.
What is most valuable?
Computer Vision is one good feature. AI Fabric is another good feature. The holistic Orchestrator platform is another feature that is very useful.
The RE Framework provided by UiPath is quite extensive. It solves a lot of problems and gives us a lot of time back. We do not have to create our own framework.
UiPath is more user-friendly than other RPA solutions that I have used. UiPath also has the biggest community.
What needs improvement?
Automation Hub needs to improve a lot. About two years back, it kept on crashing. It has improved a lot. We use it but not to a great extent. We try to build our own dashboards by using any of the data analytics tools.
It should give real-time data, and the integration with the servers is not that great. It can be because of the infrastructure that we have.
They can also consider integration with other automation tools because nowadays, a company does not have one automation tool or RPA tool. A company has multiple RPA tools. They can think of integrating the data from other automation tools in one automation hub so that it becomes centralized.

UiPath is quite stable. I would rate it a nine out of ten for scalability. It does crash sometimes. That could be because of the infrastructure we are using.
The reliability of any process that goes to the end user is tested with a set of data. We do rigorous testing because, at the end of the day, any error in production ends up in a financial loss, so we test the automation that has been built to quite an extent.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I would rate UiPath a seven out of ten for scalability. No technology is 100% scalable. As technology evolves, new features, such as GenAI features, need to be added. Scalability-wise, it can never go to a ten. Another reason why I rated it a seven is that I want Automation Hub to be scaled to its full potential. It has not been scaled up properly. I have got this feedback from different people across the organization.
The organization I belong to works on the use cases for building automation for given processes. We have around 15 developers doing this work.

I would rate UiPath support a ten out of ten. They have been quite supportive when we have raised any query with them.

I have been in the automation field for the last 12 years. I started with RPA with Blue Prism. I have worked with almost all main RPA tools such as Power Automate, Automation Anywhere, etc. I find UiPath to be the most user-friendly. There is the ease of having all the activities in the same panel. You can have the Studio setup and you can review the code as well with the analyzer. It gives a lot of flexibility when you are developing.
The one feature that is very good is that the marketplace is open. People can build their own set of activities and post them there, which is very useful. I myself have built a lot of activities. I have also used activities by other developers to complete my work. The marketplace is very helpful.
UiPath has the biggest user community. Its community is bigger than Power Automate, Automation Anywhere, and Blue Prism. Other than the community, there are also several groups. There are a lot of developers. If you are stuck with any issue, which is quite common, someone will have a solution for it.
Developing automation with UiPath is much easier compared to Power Automate, Automation Anywhere, and Blue Prism.
How was the initial setup?
The deployment is handled by another team. I do not handle the deployment because the infrastructure team handles it. It should be a one-man job. It is not that difficult.
The deployment duration of a process depends on how big the process is and how much time and resources it requires for development. Usually, it takes two to three weeks. It can also take ten weeks depending on the process.
All tools require maintenance in terms of upgrades, but that is probably handled by UiPath. We only maintain our own processes. If there are some changes to the selectors or any of the UI components, we have to update the project.
What was our ROI?
With RPA, it takes one or two years to see an ROI. It is not cost-efficient till then. When you start building hundreds of processes and utilizing the full capacity of the bots to work 24 hours, you get a good return on investment. Initially, it was expensive, but as we scaled up, we could see an ROI. We have seen a good profit.
Initially, the ROI is less. It is about 5% to 6% per year, but as the processes mature, the headcount reduces, and the human intervention also reduces. It eventually moves to 30% to 40% ROI.

It is the most user-friendly RPA platform, but it is also the most expensive RPA platform.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend UiPath to others because it is the most user-friendly. It is also developer-friendly because of the community. It also works across systems. These are the three reasons for recommending it.
We run a roadshow across the organization to understand which processes are redundant. We try to understand which part of a process can be automated by using the general RPA automation and only one tool. We also categorize them in terms of what can go under intelligent automation where a certain amount of decision-making is required. Another category is hyper-automation where we try to understand how to include different tools, such as machine learning code, AI code, NLP data set, or data mining set. If we have an existing tool for data mining and process mining, the final steps can be automated. These are three major criteria. For basic automation, we try to assess the type of automation. Is it desktop automation? What kind of resources are required? Do we need an attended automation or an unattended automation? Based on my experience, almost all of them are unattended automation. We then try to pull in the use cases, prioritize them, and start automating.
UiPath keeps on enhancing its product. Four years ago, there was no AI Fabric or Automation Hub, and now, we have all those things. They help a lot in delivering the project and having a prototype view for all the projects that are running.
