GoAnywhere Managed File Transfer Solution

  • May 30, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
GA MFT is very helpful specially in automation of moving of our Client's files. Besides being an automation tool, GA MFT is very easy to administer and provides security using the most latest file transfer protocols. High maintenance programming is not an issue anymore because of GA MFT's Project Workflow with drag and drop Tasks. In addition to it, Technical Courses of the solution is free to access.
What do you dislike about the product?
In my honest opinion, GA MFT 10/10 but I understand that nothing is made perfect. I think GA MFT will be much greater if there will be a specific template of Project Workflow that will tackle each of the Tasks available in its Component Library. On the other hand, if price can still be considered for it to be more affordable though the features of GA MFT really worth its price.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
GA MFT is currently solving our client's file transfer automation needs including the encryption and securing the moving of files with industry's file transfer protocols. It benefit each of our client's with the easy scheduling of the automated file transfer at the same time having the security of hacking and data snooping.

Provides an almost complete range of connectors

  • May 28, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I deploy Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT for our clients and provide presentations to prospects.

Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT allows our clients to securely share confidential files and create a web portal for external partners. This portal enables partners to search, upload, and download files, integrating with services like Google Drive. Additionally, GoAnywhere offers a secure mail feature for sending large attachments.

How has it helped my organization?

Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT provides an almost complete range of connectors.

GoAnywhere's agents allow us to extend MFT automation to remote systems, which is helpful for our clients with branches in different countries. By using the agent along with the automation service, we can interact with remote servers, thereby increasing productivity and transfer times between those servers and the head office.

GoAnywhere MFT has improved our client's KPIs. Before implementing GoAnywhere MFT, our clients didn't receive notifications when there were errors in the file process and now they are instantly informed.

To ensure a safe data collection process during the pandemic, our clients transitioned from Google Forms to GoAnywhere Secure Forms. This allowed them to securely fill out digital forms upon entering the building, with the option to attach them directly to their database.

Before GoAnywhere Secure Forms, our clients had to rely on third-party solutions but now they only have to use the MFT for their use cases.

The Go Fast feature improves the data transfer speeds for our clients.

GoAnywhere MFT saves our clients time connecting securely with third-party collaborations. Removing the manual intervention has saved around 90 percent of their time.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are the automatic processing of files and scheduled execution of the files.

What needs improvement?

The technical support has room for improvement. It takes between three to five days to get a resolution from them.

I would like better integration between GoAnywhere MFT and other MFT solutions.

We request the ability to customize the user interface of Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT, specifically by incorporating our company logo. This feature would provide greater flexibility and brand recognition within the software.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

For the most part, Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT is stable. Sometimes we run into critical problems that require a new patch to fix. Developing and implementing these patches can take up to a week.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT is highly scalable. We can scale by increasing the memory.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is delayed in providing a resolution. It can take up to five days to resolve an issue.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The initial deployment is straightforward. Connecting the servers and the GUI is simple. The instructions are easy to follow. Once we input the values and the IP address, Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT is easy to install.

The deployment takes five days and can be completed by one technical person.

What was our ROI?

On average, our clients see a return on investment within three years of implementing Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate GoAnywhere MFT nine out of ten.

Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT doesn't require coding for everything under the input values for the workflows, unlike other solutions.

Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT requires minimal and easy maintenance.

Our clients usually assign four people in each organization that utilize Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT.

Based on the features provided by Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT, the price is reasonable. There is no need to purchase additional tools to monitor and maintain the data.

I recommend Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT to other users.

Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT provides peace of mind.

The user-friendly web interface has transformed this process, allowing me to easily delegate tasks and finally share the responsibility

  • May 03, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

While Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT offers features like secure email and file sharing, we primarily use it for its core functionality: secure file transfers. Our focus is on building automated jobs to manipulate and securely transfer files, and GoAnywhere effectively meets that need.

How has it helped my organization?

Before GoAnywhere MFT, I relied on manually written bash scripts on a Linux server to handle file transfers, creating a workload I couldn't share due to being the only Linux expert. GoAnywhere's user-friendly web interface has transformed this process, allowing me to easily delegate tasks and finally share the responsibility.

GoAnywhere has been instrumental in our secure data transfers with third parties, streamlining the process and saving us an estimated 40 hours per month. It eliminates the need for troubleshooting and writing custom scripts, making it an efficient and reliable solution.

What is most valuable?

GoAnywhere stands out for its user-friendly project creation, intuitive testing and troubleshooting, and especially its notification system, which keeps me informed of any issues that need attention, a feature we lacked before.

What needs improvement?

My only technical difficulty has been finding certificates nearing expiration. While this suggests room for improvement in certificate management, it's more likely I just need to consult the documentation.

Upgrading was a challenge and I ran into some problems along the way.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT for eight months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The only challenge I encountered with GoAnywhere was occasionally needing to increase the allocated Java memory. The software itself prompted me to do this when it started running low on resources. Luckily, my server had plenty of memory available, so I simply doubled or tripled the allocation. This was a straightforward configuration change and didn't seem to impact performance at all. GoAnywhere warned of potential slowdowns if I didn't address the memory issue, but I haven't experienced any performance problems myself.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

GoAnywhere has proven to be very scalable. I've been able to seamlessly add at least ten new connections since implementing it, demonstrating its ability to handle increased workloads.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is great. They provide quality responses.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We migrated from Linux and shell scripts to GoAnywhere for this task because the previous approach, while functional, lacked efficiency and user-friendliness.

How was the initial setup?

The initial deployment was straightforward. I completed the deployment on my own.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation was completed in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

GoAnywhere's price is justified by its features and the time it saves me. In other words, the value I get from the software makes the cost worthwhile.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

After considering a few other options, GoAnywhere stood out due to positive reviews. A sales demo solidified my decision - it was significantly better than the competition.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT ten out of ten.

We evaluated GoAnywhere MFT's gateway feature, which adds security by placing a secure gateway at the network perimeter. However, since 90 percent of our connections already utilize a VPN, which offers its own encryption and security, we opted not to implement it. Similarly, we haven't invested in the secure forms functionality as we haven't identified a need for it.

GoAnywhere MFT itself requires minimal maintenance, only needing one patch upgrade so far. Additionally, while occasional Windows updates and server restarts are necessary, they are significantly easier to manage compared to maintaining and patching a Linux system.

GoAnywhere MFT stood out among the products we reviewed - it offered superior functionality at a surprisingly affordable price. Compared to other options, GoAnywhere felt like a clear winner in terms of both value and capability.

I recommend attending the demonstrations offered by the sales and presales engineering teams. They are product experts and are happy to provide hands-on demos where you can build a sample workflow. These sessions are very informative, and similar follow-up calls after purchase are also valuable. They can help you avoid unnecessary steps and ensure you're using GoAnywhere MFT to its full potential.

Our data exchange security is now faster, easier to use, and more convenient than before

  • April 03, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT solution to achieve file standardization through automated workflows. In this process, when a file is sent, it's first routed to an ICAP server. Think of a file transfer as simply moving a file from one location to another. However, in this case, instead of transferring the file directly, we connect it to the ICAP server first. This intermediary step allows the file to be scanned and sanitized before it's delivered to its final destination.

We implemented Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT to securely transfer and share files, as well as automate file transfers and processes.

How has it helped my organization?

GoAnywhere has significantly improved our data exchange security. It's now faster, easier to use, and more convenient than before. It has improved automation, visibility, and security.

GoAnywhere offers good visibility through its file transfer logs. This allows me to track changes within my organization, including who made them, what changes were made, and when they occurred.

GoAnywhere's automation feature has streamlined our workflows by eliminating the need for extensive coding, programming, or scripting knowledge. Its user-friendly interface allows us to create workflows simply by dragging and dropping components. Additionally, GoAnywhere offers a library of pre-defined workflows readily available for use. These pre-built workflows can be easily integrated into our workspace with a single click. While some workflows may require minor adjustments, such as specifying a CTPS certificate, link, or IP address, GoAnywhere significantly reduces the need for manual configuration.

GoAnywhere integrates with our existing IT infrastructure and systems. It also offers a feature that allows for integration with Outlook. This integration enables us to send files securely via email through a link. However, using the standard email attachment method does not provide any file protection. The Outlook plugin streamlines this process. Once installed, it provides an option within our Outlook interface to connect and send files directly from our mailbox. This eliminates the need to access the GoAnywhere platform separately, generate a link, and then send it – saving us valuable time and steps.

The training and portal videos familiarized me with the benefits of GoAnywhere. I believe someone new to the platform could grasp most of these benefits within a week or two, though not all of them in such a short timeframe.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature, GoDrive, requires an additional license. It functions similarly to Dropbox, providing a central location where all users can easily upload files. Once uploaded, the files are continuously monitored, encrypted, and inaccessible to unauthorized users. Additionally, GoDrive offers image-sharing capabilities. For instance, if we want to send a file to someone via email, we can enter their email address. Instead of sending the file through the exchange server, GoDrive generates a link. This link, when sent to the recipient, allows them to access the file with a single click. The link can be set to expire after a specific number of downloads or uploads, and we can even add a password for further security. In essence, GoDrive eliminates the need to use the exchange server for file sharing.

What needs improvement?

Fortra needs to offer more use cases for GoAnywhere MFT during training.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT for 2 months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

GoAnywhere MFT is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

GoAnywhere MFT is scalable. They have a 99 percent retention rate.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is good. Their development team releases new versions 4 times a year.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

I deployed GoAnywhere myself and found it to be easy to install. It's the simplest product I've installed so far. The process takes less than 15 minutes. All you need is the installation file. You download it, and there are almost no prerequisites for running the software.

GoAnywhere uses a web-based console for management. You'll get an HTTPS link with an IP address to access it. You can then log in to your web console to manage GoAnywhere. Even deploying it on multiple machines is straightforward; there's an agent that simplifies the process.

What was our ROI?

GoAnywhere MFT delivers a positive return on investment, as evidenced by our extensive customer base.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT 8 out of 10.

GoAnywhere allows us to encrypt our data using either TGP or AES encryption.

Depending on the use case, one or two people are required to maintain GoAnywhere.

We offer GoAnywhere to a wide range of clients, from small IT shops to large banks with thousands of employees.

I recommend reading about all the additional features, such as GoDrive. You should also be aware that GoAnywhere is highly scalable.

Flexible, value for money, and very easy to use

  • March 28, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We are using it for Managed File Transfer and secure FTP and BGP processes for incoming and outgoing files. We also move data inside of the network using the GoAnywhere agent between servers, and we have also used the scripting capabilities of GoAnywhere for the change in a file's name and other things.

How has it helped my organization?

GoAnywhere MFT helps centralize the exchange of data between systems, employees, customers, and trading partners.

The interface of GoAnywhere MFT is good. It is easy to use. It is clear. The help is very good.

GoAnywhere’s workflow features eliminate the need for custom programs and scripts for file transfer. It is very important for us because normally when you receive the file, you need to perform a lot of work to be sure that you can deliver or integrate with the backend. It helps to have the capabilities for automation or manipulation of the files through the workflows.

GoAnywhere’s workflow features help to eliminate manual processes, especially processes related to encryption using BGP.

What is most valuable?

It is very easy to use. It is easy to create projects in a graphical environment. The configuration and the setup of the environment is very easy. In general, the use of the software is very simple. It is clear, and it is one of the best products.

It is very simple to use, and it is powerful. The configuration is very flexible in terms of the protocols and algorithms for encryption and security configuration.

What needs improvement?

In some cases, the logs need deeper information. In terms of communication and checking, they need to go a little deeper.

In some scenarios, when you are in a cluster environment, the load-balancing capabilities of the gateway need to be improved a little. This functionality needs some improvement.

In general, workflow features are good, but when you need to use the transformation capabilities, there are some problems in terms of the way they manage the resources of the machine. There are some limitations in the size of the file, so the transformation capability has to be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for 3 years.

How are customer service and support?

Their support needs improvement. We have a partner, but we are not receiving a quick response. I do not know if the customers have the same experience, but in our opinion, it needs some improvement in terms of the response time. I would rate their support a 7 out of 10.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We work with some IBM products, such as IBM Sterling File Gateway. In some scenarios, it is as powerful as GoAnywhere MFT, but it is much more complex to use and set up. GoAnywhere MFT is easier. IBM has an advantage in terms of support of Connect:Direct, which is a proprietary protocol. It is a very strong protocol. It is one of the differentiators of IBM.

How was the initial setup?

Its deployment is very easy.

What was our ROI?

We are not making a calculation, but it depends on the kind of file you are moving. In some cases, if the file does not go through, you could have problems with the logistics, but I do not have a number for the return on investment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is very attractive. In terms of the capacity of the product and functionality, it is a good price. Considering its capabilities, its price is good.

What other advice do I have?

We know GoAnywhere has the capability to connect to popular ICAP servers, but we are not using any.

I would rate GoAnywhere MFT a 9 out of 10.

Helps improve our data exchange processes and centralizes the exchange of data between our systems

  • February 29, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT to facilitate our data exchanges.

How has it helped my organization?

Implementing GoAnywhere MFT has significantly improved our data exchange processes, particularly through automation. This allows us to send large files as single attachments via email.

The Secure Folders feature of Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT software strengthens our file transfer security. It provides detailed information about every user who accesses the data. Granular permissions can be set, allowing some users to only upload files, while others can only download them. These permissions extend to the entire HTTPS service, including the hosted drive.

GoAnywhere MFT centralizes the exchange of data between our systems, employees, customers, and trading partners. This eliminates the need for multiple applications for administration.

The GoAnywhere MFT's UI is user-friendly. I was able to understand how the solution works in under one hour.

GoAnywhere MFT's workflow feature stands out because it doesn't require programming knowledge. This flexible feature is also easy to set up.

GoAnywhere MFT's workflow feature eliminates the need for custom programs and scripts for our file transfers. Since I started using it I have eliminated over 100 scripts.

GoAnywhere MFT's workflow feature has streamlined previously manual processes, benefiting both us and our clients. For instance, we now receive automated notifications summarizing office hours and can easily collect any valuable information from the administrator. Before implementing GoAnywhere MFT, these tasks had to be done manually at the end of each shift.

I'm familiar with the ICAP process. We've also installed it for some of our existing clients. This allows for normal operation without needing to go elsewhere. It provides various functionalities, including automation, testing on Virtual LAN Providers, and the ability to limit access based on factors like extension numbers. This means we can restrict access to confidential information, regardless of whether someone is visiting or working within our organization. The ICAP process allows for this control without hindering regular operations. We can further enhance security by implementing our internal processes alongside antivirus protection offered by ICAP capabilities.

ICAP plays a vital role in keeping malware out of our organization, especially in high-volume traffic environments.

GoAnywhere eliminates the need for single-function tools and unsecured file transfer methods. It can automate application upgrades, providing organizations with both protection and efficiency. This means GoAnywhere can launch applications for specific tasks, eliminating the need to develop custom applications that often require additional licenses. Additionally, GoAnywhere can potentially reduce costs compared to other solutions in our environment.

Automating file transfers has significantly reduced project workloads for our organization. Manual client interaction is now automated, streamlining a previously five- to ten-step process into one or two steps.

GoAnywhere helps our staff save time to focus on other tasks. By automating many manual processes that previously supported web users and ensured security, GoAnywhere frees up valuable staff resources.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of MFT is the security it provides for our data. MFT allows us to add additional authorization and passwords to any file attachments we send via email, and also to limit the number of times the recipient can download the file.

What needs improvement?

I want to be able to use GoAnywhere to create customizable reports that I can share with the MSP containing any information related to file transfers.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT for two and a half years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

GoAnywhere MFT scales to meet the needs of organizations of all sizes.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward and took two or three hours.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT carries a higher price tag than other MFT solutions. The comprehensive features it offers justify the cost, provided we can utilize its full process and functionalities.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT nine out of ten.

We have approximately 100-150 users.

I recommend conducting a proof-of-concept for Fortra's GoAnywhere MFT.
