More than just a color grading software

  • August 17, 2021
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's the best video editor I've ever used hands down. While it's known for its color grading ability, don't sleep on everything else you can do as well. From cutting, special effects, and even a complete audio editing suite, Davinci Resolve is THE one stop video creation dream.
What do you dislike about the product?
If you truly want to use it to it's full capacity, you need to make sure your computer has a little horse power behind it. The more RAM the better, and a decent video card wouldn't hurt either.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Even with the free version I'm able to take most any video and make it into something worth viewing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Grab the free version and give it a shot. There are hundreds of YouTube videos to walk you through any questions you might have.

Best Free Video Editing App

  • August 07, 2021
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best part of Da Vinci resolve is it provides the Adobe Premier Pro like features for absolutely free. It is best for people you are just started with content creation.
What do you dislike about the product?
So far I have not disliked anything. You cannot ask for anything more for free.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being new to video editing and having no budget to purchase paid applications. Da Vinci solves all my problems as it is free of cost and provides almost all the features of any paid apps.

The Best Free Video Editor Out There PERIOD

  • July 30, 2021
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best thing about DaVinci Resolve is its very advanced color grading tools and its very powerful, and versatile effects page, Fusion.
What do you dislike about the product?
The least helpful thing about DaVinci Resolve is its lack of plugins and templates. This is not necessarily the program's fault, but rather its popularity among the editing community. There simply aren't as many people who make presets/macros or plugins for DaVinci Resolve as compared to Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use DaVinci Resolve to edit my YouTube videos throughout my channels. It is great for those types of tasks as well as everything else that I decide to do with it. I also use it to create advertisements and commercials to promote my website. Recently, I made a short 30-second advertisement for a course on my website, and making it in DaVinci Resolve was a charm. I had lots of Fusion effects, quick cuts, music tracks, and more and it all worked as I wanted it to.

Amazingly powerful app in a free package with options to upgrade

  • July 27, 2021
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
DaVinci Resolve is stunningly powerful. From intuitive timeline editing to advanced color grading and sound design options, this app has it all.
What do you dislike about the product?
Any powerful software application has a fairly steep learning curve to exploit its potential truly. Davinci Resolve is no different. However, there is a wealth of free tutorials available online.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Cropping for mobile phone aspect ratios is extremely simple. I also like the way keystone frames have been implemented to automate parameters and settings.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take your time getting to know all of the features. It's a steep learning curve but well worth the time investment.

DaVinci Resolve is the best video editing software I have ever used!

  • July 16, 2021
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love that you can see where your audio, video, pictures, and titles are in your timeline, as well as all the different effects you can put into your video. It is effortless to move any of these items on your timeline. You can cut video clips on your timeline and have everything snap into place. Not only can you edit the video, but you can also edit your sound, which is excellent! So many people who post youtube videos use this program at this point in time that if you have a question on how to do anything, you will be able to find multiple youtube videos showing you exactly how to complete any task. While there are alot of option if you find a guide, it is easy to follow and duplicate. I have even be able to take a digital 2d graphic and make it into a 3d object with movement.
What do you dislike about the product?
I am pretty new to DaVinci Resolve, making it challenging to complete everything I want to do. While some of its capabilities are confusing at the moment, there are tons of youtube how-to videos to guide you through some of the complicated technical effects you can apply. While this program makes editing very easy, there are some limits to it. One of its limits is you have to save often as the program tends to freeze or crash in the middle of working on a video. Some of the 3d renderings get glitchy. The glitching could be the program or the fact that I am running this program on a standard laptop.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When creating videos for a youtube channel, you need to put multiple clips, sounds, logos, and effects all together very quickly. Most video editing software that is available standard on your laptop does not allow you to do so. Yes, you may be able to put a few clips together, but you cannot alter sounds levels, arrange overlays, or see your timeline easily. The amount of information and how to videos already out there for DaVinci Resolve is amazing. While extremely inexpeiranced in video editing, this software and the videos I have found have made me feel like an expert. The videos I am going to be able to produce and put on my channel look amazing and I cant wait to continue to learn more about this program and its capabilities.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It would be cool if DaVinci Resolve created or hired a YouTuber to do master classes on using the program.

    Computer Software

Great video editing application

  • July 15, 2021
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The software contains a lot of features which covers all my needs for video editing. It is relatively easy to understand. Luckily there are a lot of good instruction videos on Youtube to get to know the software.
What do you dislike about the product?
I've noticed that the software requires a lot of computer resources (memory and CPU). Editing a small video of 5 minutes required 2,5 GB of RAM.

I also experience som bugs like "Medium Unavailale" when rendering the video. It should be some kind of functionality to validate the video before it is rendered.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The software is great for creating Youtube videos. The software is very comprehensive, but OK to use for beginners.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The software is very good, but make sure that you have a PC with a lot of CPU and RAM.

Professional tools for the beginning vlogger to the expert editor

  • June 22, 2021
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
As an audio engineer firstly, I really appreciate having access to my tools for mixing audio and editing tracks. The tabbed window system works really well for switching between multiple workflow types without cluttering your monitor with things you're not activiely using. Getting a video edited quickly is important to me and Resolve is very simple to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
I still do not like having to open extra windows in order to reorder audio plugins. Adding more drag and drop functionality and a larger fader area would help to mix more quickly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Having one piece of software to organize, edit and color video as well as mix down audio, add foley and record ADR without exporting to other software.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Test your workflow with the free version of the software before deciding to buy the full studio version. Also, consider buying one of their cameras if you need one as they include a free license for their full version with their equipment.

Davinci Resolve is the best tool I've ever used for video

  • June 17, 2021
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best thing about Davinci Resolve is the integrated workflow that allows the user to collect, trim, edit, composite, add effects and color and sound-design all in one platform, with surprising ease.

The editing tools are fast and intuitive and allow for surprisingly fast editing.

The color-editing capabilities in Resolve are industry-standard and relatively intuitive to use, and elevates the quality of video significantly.

Additionally, the free tier is surprisingly full-featured and allows users to truly test whether Resolve will meet their needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not much. Some keyboard shortcuts and mouse commands are counterintuitive, at first, and it takes time to get to know the software. It's hard to zoom in on a timeline. Sometimes positioning clips on timelines can be clunky and slow down editing. And, as one might expect, it's CPU-heavy, especially in the Fusion tab. Finally, while I appreciate the inclusion, I have never enjoyed using Fairlight, the integrated audio program. It's convenient, and useful for small tasks, but seems to me to be the only element of Fusion that can't compete with dedicated competitors.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
DaVinci Resolve extends our ability to create videos quickly and efficiently in a cost-effective way. Unlike other tools with extremely high prices or ongoing subscriptions, some of our employees who work with video occasionally, rather than constantly, can use the free tier of Resolve to produce high quality video quickly.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're not familiar with any video production platform, I'd recommend just installing DaVinci Resolve and never looking back. For the price point, it's been my best experience with a platform by far. Only look for a different platform if you discover after a significant amount of time that you can't acclimate to Resolve.

For users of other platforms: download the free version of Resolve and use it for long enough to adjust to Resolve's workflow versus your other platform. If you decide, in the end, to keep your existing solution, you won't have spent any money on finding out, and I think there's a substantial chance that you'll discover that you prefer Resolve to your previous solution.
