Very supportive team, great usability, meets our needs
What do you like best about the product?
The Atlan UI is easy for my new users to perform governance tasks with little training. You do not need a big team to implement and manage Atlan.
The customer success team is incredibly present and passionate about helping us meet our goals. They feel like coworkers.

Migration to the upgraded version was a little bumpy, but now that we're on it, we're fine.
I would love to be able to unnest BigQuery fields, which is on their roadmap.

The business glossary and documenting BI assets are our key use cases. We are very heavy users of the glossary - it's our source of truth for enterprise definitions and SME knowledge on data assets. This saves time and ensures data consumers are getting what they think they are - a big step forwards for data literacy. We've now expanded from having a centralized team documenting BI assets to enabling all self-serve reporting creators to do so. This helps make everyone accountable for presenting data with the appropriate context.

Atlan makes us more confident with our data
What do you like best about the product?
Atlan helps us identify our critical data and reduce the time spent on less important topics or tasks.
What do you dislike about the product?
The more challenging part for any data catalog is democratizing its use across your organization, and, in our case, Atlan being available only in English is making this part slower.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Atlan to solve multiple problems.
It helps us identify all data assets across our organization, who/what generates them, who/what consumes them, etc...
It is now our source of truth regarding our business glossary and ensures we all talk the same language.
It also helps us identify "pipelines" issues/delays and informs us so we can proactively resolves them.

Atlan was very involved in our implementation & continues to support adoption of the tool
What do you like best about the product?
They are different from other vendors who are mainly interested in the sale. Atlan has been with us every step of the way during the initial implementation & continues to proactively support us with adoption of the tool as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
Atlan is still building out some of the capabilities that tools that have been around for a long time already have, but they are ready to take on our inputs & prioritise our needs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Knowing where the data is located, who owns & uses it, know its meaning & its classification
Review from Tokyo Electron Limited - Leah QI
What do you like best about the product?
My primary contact Geoff Warren, I love his working ethic and his passion for Atlan; you can hear it through his voice. The stuff I love about Atlan is you can take it anywhere, whether during the requirement gathering section or after completing a BI product and wanting to show End User(s) what they are; it is super interactive.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Glossary & Assets, I see them overlapping each other. Maybe we need to develop a Metric section rather than Glossary Page. This Metric section is just focusing on collecting metrics. How I look at it,
1. Raw Data -> Data Models -> Calculated Fields -> Measures (Assets)
2. Metrics/KPIs

1. Atlan allows me to update and maintain live documentation as quickly as possible, so I don't have to develop detailed static documentation in .pdf format each time I push out data models in snowflake.
2. I can see table ERDs/Lineage between tables, which is a massive helper as I develop data models in Snowflake.
3. Atlan provides a place of comfort for my end user(s), they can trace my work and able to identify which feature within the data model is verified and which one is not.

Modern data catalog that is constantly improving
What do you like best about the product?
Constant product improvements; User friendly UI; Responsive support; Being treated as partner rather than customer; Product documentation
What do you dislike about the product?
Only minor bugs; nothing else comes to mind

Discoverability: helps us quickly find the data our data users need by providing a centralized, searchable catalog with great UI.
Collaboration: enables teams to collaborate more effectively via Slack and JIRA extensions
Data Lineage: helps users understand the lineage of their data by showing how data flows through the organization and how it is transformed
Metrics glossary: helps to compile and document list of all company metrics in one place and link them to data sources

Atlan is a great tool to own
What do you like best about the product?
The thing I like the most about Atlan is its support. The customer service is quick, helping our users whenever needed and considering our feedback to develop new features. We solved a lot of issues through the support channels. That makes the life of the tool admin really easy and the end user gets a smooth experience.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not being able to crawl Sisense Periscope is a big feature that is missing. It's unfortunate that this wasn't implemented for Atlan 2.0 as we have a lot of knowledge from our team over there.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It consolidates metadata from different databases making the search for metadata much easier. It tracks ownership, it allows for highlighting table status. We also use it to consolidate KPIs and to share queries
Best Data Catalog tool in the market
What do you like best about the product?
Atlan has native integrations with Snowflake, DBT and PowerBI. Thus it is straightforward to crawl your assets. The search functionality is excellent. Their API's are easy to use and well-documented. All these features provide immense value to our users. Also, forgot to mention they have excellent customer support with a reasonable SLA.
What do you dislike about the product?
The ability to impersonate a user or a persona is missing. As an admin, it is challenging to troubleshoot access privilege issues raised by any users. Also, capability to automatically assign a default persona to new users will be handy. Also, the ability to set default connector and default environment for the connector(by the admin) in the main search page will be very useful
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Developers can asses impact analysis using the lineage feature. Also, troubleshooting issues is much easier now. Analysts are able to search for the assets and get the results. The analysts are able to communicate with data owners using the slack integration in Atlan. So atlan acts as one-stop store for our data questions
Easy to setup, intuitive UI and very helpful support
What do you like best about the product?
When working with Atlan, I really liked how easy it was to set up, integrating seamlessly with our modern data stack. Their support has been great - it was very easy to get in contact with relevant people and they even helped us set us to shape our thinking around governance.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's a great product, but I'd like to see more functionality to help us prioritise our governance efforts - e.g. getting a better handle of search queries that are conducted within Atlan.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
- We are a financial institution, and compliance is essential for us. Atlan helps us to significantly reduce the effort needed to comply with GDPR and localisation laws
- Atlan makes it significantly easier for us to understand the lineage of dbt-tables into looker. This helps us to optimise costs as well as identify potential impact before making changes to data architecture.
- Atlan made it significantly easier for users to identify what data means in our organisation. For us, this has been especially relevant for event data sets.

Product has been great for beginning our data governance journey
What do you like best about the product?
The first feature that pops up when using Atlan, compared to other options we tried, is the simple -yet effective- interface. At a simple glance, Atlan might seem like a simple product that doesn't have much to offer, but when you explore and use it, you realize it has many (if not all) of the features its competitors have, but they've worked hard to offer a clean and user-friendly interface.
What do you dislike about the product?
So far, the few items that were challenging for us, I shared them with the Atlan team and they're actively listening to improve their product.
For example, the lack of integration with Microsoft Teams, and some nice options available in other reporting tools (e.g. Looker) that aren't available for Power BI reports, like report preview.
However, Atlan has been open with us in sharing some roadmap items that might be added, including some of the ones I mentioned above.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Right now, documentation! Both technical and business documentation is lacking in our data & analytics environment. Atlan gives us that central place that our users can use as an entry point to our data products.
Second, ownership. Atlan provides our users with easy-to-identify owners for all our assets, which translates into saved time for our users and our data developers.

Atlan Makes it Easy to Interact with Metadata
What do you like best about the product?
I like how easy it is to interact with our metadata. It's simple to upload information and easy to edit it as well. Generally we find that people have a simple time accessing the information they need. The search functionality is quite strong and I find the UI attractive. The Atlan team is extremely helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not much that I can say. We've had a really positive experience working with the tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Previously people didn't know where to access data and how to use data in context. They would ask questions in Slack channels taking away time from our engineers. Since launching Atlan we've reduced requests in our support slack channel by 50%, saving 1 full FTE of data engineering time.
