Segment Academy and the way how segment informs of best practices in tracking

Complex tracking implementation is covered on highest plan (Protocols)

Seeing engagement of our users in several tools. Segment gives us flexibility in trying out different tools.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure to implement properly all types of API calls.

Simplify tracking data streams and third party integrations

What do you like best about the product?
Segment enables us to simplify streaming our tracking data from our web and native apps. In addition, it allows us to integrate third party code without involving engineers. All of the configuration is done via the web so this makes it easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
The billing is based on a predefined of reserved Monthly Tracked Users (MTU). It would be ideal to have more flexibility of how the MTUs are used - for example, unused MTUs could be carried over the next month.
Perhaps additional schedules when streaming tracking data to a datawarehouse. Currently, it's limited to around one per hour per day.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Easily deploy a tracking solution and integrate third party code. The latter allows us to share the responsibility of who integrates and maintains the integration.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider if you have the team to maintain tracking integration and how you want to manage third party integration.

What do you like best about the product?
The most helpful thing about segment is the ability to quickly add on other applications that utilize our user / app engagement data to see insights and enable other teams throughout the organization.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it can be a little difficult for newer engineers to get segment events to behave in the manner that is most useful for distributing the information.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Generally we are using segment to track user engagement within our application (ie click stream data) as well user data. Currently we use segment to send data to multiple BI tools, SalesForce, HubSpot, and other marketing applications.

What do you like best about the product?
Segment is great on collecting data from a set of sources and then distribute them to other platforms without the need to integrate all of them together.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes, as the integrations are seamless between platforms, there are some specific features that are not obvious to take advnatage of.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The fact that having multiple sources of data streams and multiple data destinations and not need to worry on how everyone integrate in-between.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for data aggregation and reply platform then choosing Segment looks like the best option by its simplicity and at the same time full featured set of options.

Integration is easy. Good documentation. Good UX
What do you dislike about the product?
It seems to be a quite profound solution and therefore complicated. Difficult to foresee all use cases and consequences. Lack of my experience does not give confidence that it is done correctly
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sending analytics events from front end app to relational datawarehouse (Postgres)
benefits:
* seamless integration
* no need maintenance (schema support is automatic - great job)
* split dev and production env

What do you like best about the product?
Documentation is great! Support as well!
Opportunities it gives us - link with more than one analytic systems; resend data; integrated tracking plan; predefined events and so on
What do you dislike about the product?
Cannot see many records in Debugger window. It will be great if we can see some reports on tracked data or even make some queries over data
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Custom metrics, better Google Analytics reports which gives our sales team information to make better decisions

What do you like best about the product?
As a developer / architect I love being able to see my events flow into the system and then arrive in my different destinations.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI for the website(specifically protocols) could use a little tightening up but overall I think they have a pretty well designed UI which is easily understood by Devs and Business people alike.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have alot of data coming from different systems and much of the data has to be filtered and 'fixed' before we can use it. We are now using protocols to design our events and properties and we are needing to 'fix' less data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider the cost and complexity of doing this yourself and Segment becomes an easy purchase

What do you like best about the product?
Segment were early adopters in the data transformation space. The platform makes it easy for marketing, product, engineering and data teams to connect web apps, mobile apps, data warehouses and engineering software together. Through standard protocols Segment helps to construct, manage and pipe data for growing companies.
What do you dislike about the product?
Segment operates a MTU model which works to a point but does mean the platform can become expensive as you scale. With more players in the space there are cheaper alternatives.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Segment helped solve the issue of rapid deployment of tracking code for Salesforce, GA, Heap, Facebook, Twitter and AdWords. The benefits are consistent and reliable data entering our data warehouse. Systems can be set up and working quickly. This means faster impact to results.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need great quality data, at your data, marketing, product and engineering teams fingertips. Don’t waste time on optimising java. Hey one snippet in and then you can focus on running your business.
