Great product

  • July 06, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The number of connections, the ease of setting everything up, and their commitment to keep everything up-to-date. It's a great platform.
What do you dislike about the product?
Honestly, logging in is annoying b/c Chrome Password Manager and Lastpass don't recognize the form fields, so they won't auto-populate with my credentials. Otherwise - it's great!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're dumping our marketing data (website, hubspot, UX, ads, etc), sales data, help desk, and finance platform into a data warehouse so we can build a custom DMP for various business functions.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think they have a free trial version - give it a shot. It's easy to setup and manage your data.

Your SaaS stack made easy

  • April 30, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
In less than a minute you can connect a new third party tool to your app – no developers required (in most cases).
What do you dislike about the product?
There could be more straightforward docs on best practices for setting up sending analytics to Segment.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It now takes us minutes instead of days to try out new tools. We set up analytics track, identify, and page calls once, and Segment takes care of funneling the relevant information to each connected app – including formatting the data properly.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Segment is a no-brainer for companies building their marketing or analytics stacks.

So much easier to get things done now that I don't have to annoy the developers

  • January 27, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Incredibly easy to set up sources and destinations, and then funnel them appropriately. No coding required on my end, minimal coding required on the developer's ends. The documentation is amazing and well thought-out. Huge, huge time saver in deploying almost any kind of analytics.
What do you dislike about the product?
It takes a while to wrap your head around how Segment works when you first get started.

Google Analytics documentation could be better - it's by far one of the most puzzling integrations (no fault of Segment; GA just has whack terms).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Segment just nails it. I don't have to keep annoying a developer to program stuff for me,.

Here's some of the things we used to do manually before Segment.

- Asynchronous tracking that doesn't slow down page loads, is gentle on mobile links. Gentle on most links, to be honest.

- No crashes. Ever. This gets its own bullet. There's been some concern about a single point of failure with Segment, but it's never failed on me and the one time there was a call delay, Segment offered free replays to everybody who suffered from it.

- Sensible schema for warehousing

Now the developers just set up Segment sources, and I set up the destinations.

Segment Aggregates Data Like the Best Analyst

  • August 07, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Segment makes combining data sources across a Saas application so easy that it feels unnatural. We've aggregated data across mobile, web, and companion applications in a breeze, and sent it to any destination. Segment plugs naturally into databases, tools, and analytics.
What do you dislike about the product?
Getting the right execution pattern down is a challenge at the start.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Aggregating data and sending it to various sources.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use Segment as your foundation for data management. Remove other tools in place and add them to Segment.

Easy and Robust

  • June 12, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Over the past few years I've implemented segment with 3 different companies. Each time I've been very pleased with the ease of setup and maintenance. On top of all of that, Segment has continued to add more robust and valuable features (e.g. warehouses) with great customer service/help when needed.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish there was a 'native' analytics experience in the web product, at least as a baseline. I think there could also be some value in a workflows/transformations feature as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using segment to track user behavior in a centralized way while also making the data accessible to various tools we rely on. It has also been really valuable to use to consolidate user interaction data from multiple sources into a single warehouse.

Data pipeline management drastically improved.

Analytics + Warehousing in a day

  • June 08, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The onboarding process - Segment has clearly spent a lot of time perfecting the process of getting up and running with multi-platform analytics & data warehousing. In a matter of a day I had integrated analytics into an application, shared that with multiple services, and routed it to our data warehouse.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Team plan is fairly priced for what you get, but it's a big jump up for the (our) simple initial use case of setting up multiple environments for a single application, or sending analytics data from multiple related platforms.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For a startup, Segment allows developers to focus on building the application without costly distractions. Segment's data warehousing has saved us a ton of what would have been costly data systems architecture time. The flexibility to leverage any existing analytics platform as our needs evolve is an excellent value. The analytics.js API is very well designed and has been painless to incorporate into our React / Redux app (thanks to the redux-segment library).

Great fit for small startup

  • June 07, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Without Segment our 4-person engineering department would never had been able to prioritize building an analytics pipeline. Segment saved us lots of time implementing our analytics pipeline, and continues to save us time because our customer success team can self-serve configure the integrations that they want to use through the web.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish there was a linkedin integration and a google sheets integration. I also wish you could do more filtering on the events sent to slack.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We want an analytics pipeline for both our customer success team as well as our algorithm research time.

Best analytics solution for startups

  • June 07, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Segment is the only analytics event provider that lets you easily and cheaply take your event data into your own environment. Other ones either charge a ton (GA) or make it really hard to export data.

I recommend Segment to every startup I advise.
What do you dislike about the product?
They need to build more sources. Many of the services they have integrations with could be great sources.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Event tracking and exporting data from other services (example would be zendesk). The event tracking is easy to implement and I love that you can export it to your own data warehouse.

Vital data tool for our drive to Legalize Trees

  • June 07, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
One of the simplest, but most effective products we utilize to understand the early growth of our unconventional startup, Segment is an essential ingredient in the mix.
What do you dislike about the product?
Wait, there is something to dislike? News to me.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A tool like Legalize Trees comes to life by connecting with a well understood community of committed folks. Segment allows us to connect appropriately, in an authentic voice well received by a diverse community of Americans nationwide.
