My interesting experience with Segment
What do you like best about the product?
The connections product that allows us to integrate with multiple 3rd party services. It allows us to centralize all of our analytics between all our products into one place.
What do you dislike about the product?
Segment is missing some key 3rd party integrations which means we have to leverage Functions which is defeating the process of the ease of use of Segment. The onboarding process for Personas is superfluous and not needed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Segment is solving the problem of integrating new tools without having to do the heavy lift of integrating it in our products. The benefits we've realized is the power of Personas via the use of email drip campaigns and funnel targeting.
Great experience for marketers
What do you like best about the product?
I love the audience-building feature. Being able to create custom audiences to push out to all paid social and display channels has helped keep our team aligned and working towards a consistent audience strategy.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be quite technical and requires a good bit of development resources. With the right team and strategy though, it can be super powerful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We've been able to keep our acquisition and engagement teams aligned on a consistent audience targeting strategy. With IOS 14 making pixel retargeting less effective, we've seen great success pushing 1st party audiences to channels via segment. It makes it incredibly easy to have audiences automatically sent to channels so you're not manually uploading customer lists.
CDP is definitely the future of Data management, governance and tools enablement!
What do you like best about the product?
I think the features are well thought of for growth marketers like me who have less time to integrate new tools, Segment makes onboarding new tools and feeding data to these tools almost seamless.
The practices and the concept of JSON tracking method are easy to follow and set a standard that the industry can follow and build their tools/microservices around Segment.

What do you dislike about the product?
Duplication is one of the major challenges that many organisations face, I think the existing concept of calculating MTUs, it could be applied to deduplicate the data before it reaches the Destinations.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

Changes the way marketing teams work
What do you like best about the product?
I love that marketers can have control over where data is going and where data is coming from and create their own Picasso of customer data to enrich decisions.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think there could be more templates for tracking specs made available to lower-tier customers. I also think they should provide more examples of snippets for very common tools. E.g. I work on analytics with no dedicated devs support, so being able to have more of an idea of what needs to be done would speed it up.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

1. Be clear what you want to track and don't track everything
2. Allow time for devs/eng to read documentation before even implementing
3. Understand what destinations/sources you will use and if they are ready to use out of box

Best Data Platform for all your needs
What do you like best about the product?
I am a Product Manager and Segment makes it extremely easy for nontechnical folks to access the platform and do what they need. A lot of times, the debugging tool or their new Protocols tool is useful for me to see how data flows from one platform to another.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only thing that comes to mind here is trying to improve the health of the data across all the different sites. Naming conventions can be problematic and having a solution built into Segment would be ideal.

Segment Helps Marketers Access & Activate Customer Data
What do you like best about the product?
The pre-built integrations with marketing, data, and analytics platforms make it easy for marketers to use the platforms to set up integrations versus needing engineering resources for every integration request.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the features are less intuitive, like tracking protocols; it's unclear sometimes in the platform what's 'required' versus what just helps make your data better versus what might not be helpful from a marketing perspective.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Segment is helping our clients organize and collect data from disparate sources and activate that data in marketing platforms; this is crucial as we enter a 'cookieless future' where we rely more on customer PII more than ever.

Segment is great for being able to both visualize and control the flow of customer data throughout your various integrations

Support Agents are often unhelpful when reporting feature gaps

We wanted to know the full picture about the customer and centralize their data for use in various integrations
Tracking your events with ease and accuracy using Segment
What do you like best about the product?
How simple it is to integrate Segment with other products & platforms. You can add a new destination in a few minutes, and a new source of events in a few hours of development.
Besides, their support team is really capable and has good knowledge of the platform to help you with any issues.

What do you dislike about the product?
I would like to be able to see historical values, and as well a report of how many events were received from each source, and sent to each destination. This would allow me to measure how accurate is each of them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tracking important events & screens, integrations with other platforms for product & mobile analytics, and sending raw events to our data warehouse directly for further analysis....
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Enabling identity merge is important if you would like to reduce the number of MTUs and make sure that events belonging to the same users are tracked under the same profile.
A great platform with awesome support and success staff to help get the most out of the product.

There can be a lot of jargon and documentation for what, ultimately, is a simple thing.

Hooking up marketing journeys to customer activities, deduplicating customers, managing permissions, pipelining data

It's a great way of wrapping your customer (and other) data together across all your internal tooling.
Extremely flexible customer data platform which should sit at the middle of any company's martech
What do you like best about the product?
lots of sources and destinations available, as well as custom sources and destinations to tailor to own needs if they currently aren't supported. Requires less dev resources than other competitors as far as im aware
What do you dislike about the product?
Some destinations and source ownership between Segment and their partners can lead to a bit of back and forth (e.g. SDKs, missing features or bugs in functionality) with support teams.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Resolving customer identity and being able to conglomerate all activities a customer experiences in one place with Personas. Easy to set up server-side tracking as well to circumvent ad blockers and create a complete source of truth when it comes to event tracking.
