Anaplan is very powerful and flexible platform
What do you like best about the product?
I mostly like the performance and flexibility of the platform. Even if there's no pre-defined funtions, most-everything can be calculated in a custom way. Large amounts of data are calculated quickly in a cloud.
What do you dislike about the product?
Currently downside of Anaplan platform is its way of displaying the final data to multiple users. It often requires to actually store the version of data for each user even for simple summaries instead of calculating them ad-hoc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Anaplan allows our company to get rid of slowly performing Excel planning, yet supplies their platform cheaper than their competitors.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Always go with master anaplanners as lead for all implementations. Other model builders can work under the guidance of master anaplanners.
Anaplan the future of enterprise performance management - better than excel!
What do you like best about the product?
Anaplan is a platform like no other.
It can be described as and related to a version of excel - an excel on steroids without the side effects and complete governance.
Anaplan is a smart multi dimensional calculation engine which leverages relationships in your data to plan smarter.
Why is the governance aspect so important - because with great power comes great responsibility and the Anaplan platform handles this well.
Anaplan is extremely flexible, it uses your business logic, it is not a black box of hard codes.
Anaplan creates your vision and makes it a reality because it is a fully customized product.
Anaplan listens to its community of users and uses their feedback to influence the design of enhancements.
Learning Anaplan is free (license is required to build but all materials are free).
Anaplan has community where you can discuss designs and share your ideas with peers.
Anaplan is the only tool I know of that truly achieves connected planning - connecting your business models together to better understand the performance of your business.
You can build planning applications very quickly in Anaplan - weeks and months not years!

What do you dislike about the product?
Like with every tool there are limitations however it must be said that Anaplan is constantly working on a roadmap of new improvements to remove the limitations.
Anaplan is not the best reporting tool, it's primary purpose is as a calculation engine but it does connect directly to tableau to allow you to produce better reports.

Anaplan experience/review
What do you like best about the product?
Opportunities, flexibility, connected planning are the two top words for me and where the technology excels when compared to others.
Deploying and connecting different use cases provides the biggest benefits.

What do you dislike about the product?
Creating good models and visualizations isn't as easy.
Managing sparsity properly is an art and can add technical complexities.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used Anaplan on different use cases from FP&A to Real Estate and Commercial Planning including connected business plans and global rollouts.
When compared to other solutions the speed of implementation, out of the box functionalities and flexibility of the tool are impressive. This means the Business is enabled to react quickly and effectively to internal and external changes - to me this is the biggest benefit.

What do you dislike about the product?
Reporting can be improved
Would like to see more frequent Product updates
Free API connectivity is limited and not end user friendly.
Model sizing is another limitation, any solution has to be developed with size in mind.
No single way to solve a problem, which leads to inconsistent model building.
Need to improve connectivity to many widely used platforms. ex. Power BI

Ultimate flexibility
What do you like best about the product?
Despite being primarily used for finance and sales, Anaplan isn't limited to those areas. Because it can be used as the primary forecasting engine throughout the business, it can enable collaboration between teams in ways that multiple point solutions can not.
What do you dislike about the product?
The platform has a steep learning curve that requires heavy investment upfront. Many customers underestimate this and just tell their junior analysts to learn everything while also doing their day jobs, while the primary decision makers are not involved in learning the platform and ensuring that their ideas are considered in the design process.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're able to more dynamically review the state of the business than we can using spreadsheets.
Anaplan Enables Business Led Connected Planning
What do you like best about the product?
Anaplan allows us to have an agile approach to our financial planning. Moving out of excel allows us to be more collaborative (real time calculation through HyperBlock technology), drives consistency across calculation and modeling approaches and allows us to move faster. Analysts are able to easily learn the tool as it has similarities to Excel (but so much more powerful) so you are not reliant on third parties to build and maintain your models.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some feature enhancements I would like to see in the tool such as filtering/displaying list properties, native integration/scheduling functionality, additional history reporting features, and in app formula hints/guidance (similar to excel). I don't have any major complaints about the application.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Anaplan to facilitate all of our corporate financial planning and forecasting activities. Having this tool has allowed us to create a consistent approach and moved us away from using disparate tools. We have better data quality, improved usability, and are now able to have our entire organization reporting off of a consistent data set. We've eliminated hours of manual updates to create reports for business leaders.
Anaplan leading the way in Connected Planning framework
What do you like best about the product?
Anaplan may probably be initially though of as another planning tool. However, its strategic planning approach for using the tool, the online training, the project approach during implementation projects, and the openness and desire of the Anaplan staff to assist are what I think are the key things that make the company successful.
I especially like the focus on the Connected Planning framework where it almost forces business to rethink their internal processes and highlights that its internal teams (e.g. sales, supply chain, marketing, finance) have to work together and plan together to provide the best possible results for the business as a whole.

What do you dislike about the product?
The new UX (user interface) is still maturing and is not yet at a level that they themselves are completely happy with although it is already provides a good base for generating powerful reporting and user interaction for planning and reporting purposes over multiple devices.
Some technical aspects of referencing data from source module and using them in a target module can still sometimes be complex and confusing even for seasoned users. A simplification of this process would be greatly welcomed by all model builders and would only enhance the already great tool that it is.
A simplification of the more advanced data integration process would also be a welcomed change.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a consultant assisting business clients in their planning and reporting requirements, Anaplan was instrumental in assisting several of my customers in moving away from their extensive use of Excel spreadsheets and inconsistent and unstructured planning and reporting processes.
In most instances, the Anaplan projects I have managed have required me to guide the customer to moving to more robust, simplified and structured processes to enable them to gain the most from implementing a tool like Anaplan.
Shorter, simplified month end reporting processes, intuitive driver-based planning processes, focused and parameterised reporting are some of the benefits realised by customer base.

Anaplan provides strong use cases across multiple industries
What do you like best about the product?
The live calculation engine allow users to see the effects of their updates in real time, which places Anaplan at the top tier of planning solutions. Centralizing information also allows users to view changes from other parts of our organization, which drives more efficient planning cycles and communication among departments.
The new user experience is also industry-best. Dashboarding translates cleanly to the mobile application, and on-screen views are professional and effective for communicating data to higher level users.
I have been involved with Hyperion and TM1 implementations in past roles, and Anaplan is by far the easiest and fastest to implement. Changes on-the-go are also very efficient to roll out, which is not the case with more complicated and less-sophisticated platforms. For organizations that experience dynamic lines of business, Anaplan is an ideal solution for quickly developing what-if scenario analysis to reduce uncertainty and promote smarter forecasting.

What do you dislike about the product?
Managing large amounts of data presents a challenge at times. Due to Anaplan's configuration as a planning tool, there is a trade-off between calculation speed and data storage capabilities. Many times, our users would like to see highly specific, transaction level details within Anaplan, but due to the size of our organization, this is generally an impossible task to accomplish without exceeding the maximum allowed workspace size parameters.
Reporting is also not a strong suit for Anaplan. Most of our users are used to more flexible ad-hoc reporting similar to what is offered in Excel from Hyperion or TM1, so creating reports to match the capabilities of other tools often presents challenges. However, as with all things in Anaplan, the more time you spend in the system as a developer, the more you are able to find solutions for previously unsolvable problems.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In my work, my clients have solved issues around workforce planning, financial analysis, executive reporting, Capex and depreciation, cost allocations, real estate investment and property management, data integrations, and model security management. All of these areas have added significant efficiency around our planning cycles (reduced forecast/budget completion time, better communication across departments, greater visibility into cost savings drivers).
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Your success with Anaplan is measured by the amount of knowledge and investment you make in learning the platform. Any company needs to invest in a full-time staff to support the system, which will increase user adoption as well as grow the use case potential within the organization. I have yet to run into a situation that cannot be solved with Anaplan, but it took time, creativity and an architectural focus to design solutions that had not yet been discovered by other developers.
