Heap is a great option for beginner and intermediate data analysts

  • March 10, 2022

What do you like best about the product?
I like that there are a lot of options for education and that the user interface is relatively intuitive. I'm also a big fan of live view and the event visualizer.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish that there were more capabilities to measure site data rather than just events and some user data.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Heap very often to determine the value of proposed site design changes. It's been super helpful as we get closer to our new UI rollout.

Awesome but expensive

  • March 08, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Very easy to get up and running with data collection. The fact that heap records the user's actions automatically allows me to easily answer questions like 'How many times do people click on this?' retroactively without having to have explicitly defined the tracking ahead of time. They offer a large array of plots and data exploration tools that are easy to use and enable allow me to quickly answer questions about my product.
What do you dislike about the product?
The pricing of the tool is very expensive. I was running cloud infrastructure for a medium-sized e-commerce website and my Heap bill was about 70% as much as my hosting bill.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Heap allows me to quickly analyze if changes to my product have hurt or improved key metrics. It helped me decide which features were important to my users and which I could retire based on usage patterns.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Establish a style guide for naming everything in your Heap account from the names of defined events, segments, plots and dashboards. The namespace can become very cluttered and difficult to navigate if you have a lot of data flowing through and a lot of users defining things in Heap.

An amazing easy-to-use analytics&insights tool to help your R&E

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to retroactively query the autocaptured data is what makes this tool better than it's competitors. You don't have to come up with userpaths before you can actually report on them - for most of the use cases in our application - we were able to successfully put autocapture to use and gain valuable insight into how our users use our application.
What do you dislike about the product?
The pricing might be a bit too steep for small bootstrapped businesses, but Heap will work with you to figure out the best pricing scheme for your business. There is also a free trial to help you figure out the number of sessions across your webapp & setup Heap in general.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We had no insights in certain user paths in our app (i.e. what does the user do before they come to the Upgrade page, when do the users drop off) and Heap helped us get to know our users a bit better almost straight off the bat. After a couple of days of autocapturing events, we were ready to see what exactly caused the most friction in our UI and what steps seemed to affect our users negatively (or positively) in terms of retention and engagement with the application.

What do you like best about the product?
It's easy to see what's working and what's not within our product.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's not as easy to stay organized across teams.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
How in-product pages are performing and how our content is helping or hindering the user experience.

Powerful but expensive

  • March 08, 2022
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The visualization tools are very flexible and the ability to track nearly anything in your web experience is extremely powerful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Heap is pretty expensive compared to other solutions, but the fact that you are not limited in the number of events that you track is powerful (pricing is based on sessions).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have been about to learn more about paths that users take on our site and use those insights to help drive product prioritization decisions.

Great app!

What do you like best about the product?
The auto-capture feature is definitely Heap's strongest feature. Heap Connect is also awesome for data wrangling.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Shopify integration leaves something to be desired. While Heap Connect is great, I don't love that I need to write complex SQL to sessionize order events.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mostly marketing attribution for purchases. We also use it for optimizing our site for our users.

So much data, its hard to sift through

  • March 08, 2022
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love the options and the simple set up to turn on and off features. I also love the recommended reports.
What do you dislike about the product?
Its hard to sift through the amount of data available, and its difficult to get user-level data.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are trying to understand user engagement and how updates affect overall usage of various features. There is a significant benefit to seeing what users are doing in the platform.

Full Featured Addition to Any Marketing Team's Suite of Analytics

  • March 08, 2022
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like Heaps's suite of features the best. All of which are quite robust. Their implementation of funnels is by far the best along with the ability to simultaneously view and define events on your analyzed web pages. Lastly, the snapshot feature is wonderful and I can imagine a lot of use cases for it.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would like a more detailed explanation or documentation on some aspects of reporting features. Most of your analyses tools are very well documented but some such as touchpoint conversions could use some work.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The primary issues we are solving are funnel analysis through the web pages we own with our various partners. At the moment we are just getting started, but I can see us utilizing Heap to figure out how best to structure and optimize our customer journeys to increase conversion and retention.
