Using Grafana for visualizing Metrics and Logs in our DevOps environment

  • July 01, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
That grafana is easy to integrate with every kind of data source. The graphs are smooth and easy to understand. You can easily query everything.
What do you dislike about the product?
Displaying logs is a bit unsupported at the moment, but still one of the best on the market.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Visualizing metrics of our virtual machines from elasticsearch datasource and visualizing metrics of containers from prometheus datasource. Also displaying application and server logs on separated dashboards. The biggest benefit is that I can see every kind of information from various datasources on a single platform and possibly on a single dashboard. The dashboards are capable of refreshing themselves and with that, you can see what is happening in you environment real time. Grafana is also great if you want to display one or more of its dashboards on TV screens or on some other non-interactive display, because you can share the dashboards for users who does not have the needed privileges to sign in to your grafana instance. Integration of grafana with any kind of authentication system (for example Microsoft's very own Active Directory with the LDAP integration) is very easy. Running grafana inside container is also very easy and well documented and supported, which makes the operation of the instance a lot easier. You can also create organizations on the platform and you can create roles based on those organizations. By using these, you can separate dashboards for different teams and/or users. The documentation and the community built around the platform is great and one of the best I have seen in the open source community.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need to choose one platform, where you can visualize metrics, don't hesitate and just choose grafana, because it is the best platform for it.

What do you like best about the product?
Grafana is basically used for visualization purpose. It provides different types of panels for visualizing data for example graph, status panel, single state etc.
we can use different type of data sources while creating any dashboard.
What do you dislike about the product?
Till now everything is fine, I personally feels good while using it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For monitoring different type of tools and for presenting our data in the form of graphs I mainly use grafana.

Best visualisation tool for monitoring

  • December 03, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Customisation of graphs, a lot of data sources, a lot of plugins (different visualisations, auth, data sources). Multi-tenancy, different auth methods. Sharing of graphs. API for automation and etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
If you use it heavily sometimes you need to modify code to add more features (and in my experience only 30% of github PR got merged). Some obvious features for visualisation plugins are still missing (like filter out empty metrics from table).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Visualisation, alerts, monitoring, troubleshooting.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use internal alerts if you use cases are simple otherwise use some external and more powerful tool. Don't be lazy and set up proper auth.
Also remember that your Grafana powerfulness depends on your time series database. Nice would be to ideas is to use templating tool to build your graphs.

Easy time series visualization

  • October 11, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to set up and doesn't require a lot of code in order to have clean and useful time-series graphs. The best part is that it's available as a web server application and can thus be deployed quick and easy. Visually, the graphs and other dashboard components look good
What do you dislike about the product?
Requires plugins in order to use some data sources otherwise it's really wonderful
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
realtime visualization and monitoring of sensor readings and visualization of realtime calculation results from simulations. The deployment was relatively quick and easy and graph types can be changed easily with the click of a button.

Fast, reliable, and good-looking

  • September 08, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Grafana is a great-looking data visualisation tool which allows you to create dashboards containing various data sources which can be collected from almost any software. I love how professional Grafana dashboards look compared to how little effort goes into creating them.
What do you dislike about the product?
Grafana requires a database or some other kind of persistent storage in order to keep historical data. This can sometimes be difficult to set up depending on your use case.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Grafana is a great way to show the impact real-world conditions have on resources (eg, the system resource change during a spike in web traffic can be easily seen)

Beautiful and Powerful

  • January 28, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Once configured, the dashboards are pleasant to look at and nearly infinitely customizable to any need. Since it is an open source project, there are means to integrate with a large number of data collection systems.
What do you dislike about the product?
The tool takes a good bit of time to get set up and usable. It is not a project for someone looking for a quick solution.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a quick visual dashboard showing status and usage of our critical systems both on premises and in the cloud. We see system trouble in seconds now rather than finding out when users experience a problem. This allows us to respond to issues before they impact the organization.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need visualizers and don't mind a bit of configuration time on a Linux server, this is a fantastic tool.

The best opensource dashboards in the world

  • January 23, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to use the various datasources as a backend (prometheus, graphite, even elasticsearch), the ability to automate the deployment of Grafana itself (even the dashboards provisioning, which is great).
Documentation is very well, and especially, I love the kiosk mode.
Template variables are the best!
What do you dislike about the product?
Alerting. It's really pitiful, because the alerting ability is very limited. You can't do math on it and you can't select popular business-messengers or alermanager.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ability to have a quick overview of the project health itself, also we the ability to have the screens in the office, which are 24x7 playing the Grafana playlists
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You need to spend some time initially to understand which metrics and in which ways you want to show, because it's very easy to make bad dashboards, but quite complex to make them really useful

Best frontend for monitoring

  • July 22, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use, simplicity, initial configuration and user experience
What do you dislike about the product?
It could support out of the box with some new datasources.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With Grafana we can view from a single point all our infraestructure status, service time, alerting, all in one.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Start with telegraf, grafana and influxdb, next prepare some scripts
