Unbelievable Product Analytics tool for both my analytics team and enabling our product org.

  • November 14, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Amplitude is a fantastic self-serve product analytics tool for both technical and non-technical audiences. Great UI, easy to use, and provides a deep level of exploratory power to our entire Product organization.
What do you dislike about the product?
Because all data into Amplitude must be structured as an event, setting up the proper ETL pipeline into Amplitude can be time consuming.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Benefits realized = time to value for product analytics insights, self serve tool for our product managers and engineers, deep level of insight into user lifecycle and engagement analytics.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It can be an expensive tool depending on the amount of data being sent each month, but the costs are worth it. It's a great way for technical and non-technical team members to explore product engagement and user analytics.

Product analytics at scale

What do you like best about the product?
The user interface for building charts and organizing content across dashboards, notebooks, and team spaces is incredibly intuitive. One of my favorite underrepresented features is the fact that each change to a chart generates a unique version of it along with a URL without interrupting the chart creation flow. It makes collaborating on chart building incredibly easy. Aside from the intuitiveness of the interface, they've also got quite a bit of available help text and documentation sprinkled throughout the experience that help a lot in getting productive with analysis.
Considering the amount of data we query through Amplitude, I've been overall impressed with the performance. It's definitely better than other solutions I've used.
I also really like the search they make available through their UI. It's fast and powerful and has saved me time and time again when I've lost a chart or cohort I had defined but misplaced.
Since we've instrumented and are flowing events from multiple different properties across different domains, Amplitude has brought together even more people than I would have thought possible inside our organization. It's sort of become the de facto "place to go" when you need a question answered.
What do you dislike about the product?
One thing that I use often is the user event stream to figure out where a particular user was encountering issues or falling away from our primary paths for using our products. Because of the nature of the event structuring Amplitude requires, it is very difficult to differentiate the events from each other since there is no way to filter down or search by the event attributes in that view. That's made many a debug session fairly onerous.
Since Amplitude doesn't have all the compliance attestations we require to access all markets in the US and globally, we have had to find custom ways to work around those restrictions to protect customer data in restricted markets.
I also don't find their notification/email integration useful at all. Everyone already gets overwhelmed with emails, so having more automated ones triggered to land in my inbox are not helpful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
There are two major things Amplitude has enabled us to do - democratize data and analytics inside our product and marketing organization and provide a common language for how we define and measure success in our products. Not only have we found ways to use Amplitude to monitor and measure individual user paths, but we've also found ways to build in our major business metrics. That means that everyone from individual development and design teams responsible for products to the executive teams managing top line budgets and revenue have begun to rely heavily and in some cases exclusively on Amplitude.
We also use it for monitoring results of A/B tests and canary deployments, which has proven to be incredibly useful and clear inside Amplitude.
I use it often for building business cases for new ventures as well. Amplitude notebooks have taken over the normal powerpoint presentation format in many of those types of settings inside our product team now, which is a breath of fresh air.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I highly recommend finding ways to use their interface and familiarize yourself with the ways that Amplitude thinks about analytics. Also, make very sure you have a plan for how your analytics schema is going to be implemented before you start going crazy with loads of different events and event types with various attributes. The most important key to success with Amplitude is having a clear and scalable analytics event, instrumentation, and schema strategy. If you're serious about analytics in your company, you'll need a dedicated person or team to oversee the implementation and planning to make it successful. It's a very flexible tool, but with a lot of flexibility comes a lot of room for error, which only compounds at scale.

What do you like best about the product?
Amplitude's top features such as event segmentation, funnel analysis is really helpful
What do you dislike about the product?
it can only track user level info, not website level in our use case
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it to monitor day to day metrics, identify reasons for conversion changes, understand be behavioral difference between user groups

I'm an advocate for Amplitude

What do you like best about the product?
I like that they listen to feedback on our business needs and help us with solutions to meet these needs. They also have some really good documentation on how to use the tool. I also like how fast the data can return, how easy it is to make charts.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Inability to fully understand the impact to the Amplitude end users and their charts is a pain point. When we as admins have to change or delete something in the raw data , sometimes its hard to make sure communication is sent to all the right people at the right time (when they are using the data). I would like to have more visibility and the ability to notify users more easily when we make changes. I also run into pruning issues which often times cause problems because the error messages are not "in your face" and its easy to make a decision based on incomplete data due to this issue.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I help enable teams to better understand their user behavior. Right now, I'm working with some new products to help them understand how this tool can integrate with Braze to nurture clients to help improve their experience with our platform

Amplitude democratizes user engagement data, driving self-service product insights

  • November 13, 2020

What do you like best about the product?
Amplitude provides an intuitive out of the box experience for user engagement exploration, analysis, and collaboration. Its prebuilt charts give our teams the ability to quickly answer questions, identify patterns of user behavior, and drive product and marketing decisions. While it does have prebuilt charts, most charts also offer significant flexibility which allows for refinement and deeper analytics.

Since our adoption of Amplitude a few months ago, it has become the go-to resource for our user engagement data. In the short time that we have used it Amplitude continues to roll out new features and enhancements that have tremendous impact.
What do you dislike about the product?
While the current charts and feature options are incredible, it does limit you to the ways you can examine certain questions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Amplitude has given us self service analytics and collaboration across multiple teams who work in numerous remote locations. It has improved cross-team communication regarding metric definitions and allows us to segment users in meaningful ways.

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use- Minimal training required to start with the tool, learn and go deep
Cohorts and custom events are easy to create and use.
The charts and everything are very customizable and easy to navigate even if you are not familiar with analyzing data.
Very comprehensive documentation
Great customer support and follow-up
Notebook
What do you dislike about the product?
Alerts- Alerts are good but still a lot of scope for improvement.
Team space VS Team group - This can be improved for e.g any one in a team group should be able to work on the chart or dashboard. Right now Amplitude support the concept of Team Space. i would love to have two dimensions to it.Team group(Restricted) and Team Space.(Open)
Bulk transfer or copy at individual level.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our organization is using it as a go to tool for all Customer Analytics requirement. it is quite helpful to identify drops, missed opportunity and looking at customer journey. It's used extensively by leadership team, product, marketing and operations.

you can also use its api to transfer data out of it and build a custom tool. We do that for alerts and it's very helpful in catching drops in funnel or specific events.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Amplitude Analytics is a great tool for customer analytics, monitoring. It is easy to check any chart , report, storytelling with NOTEBOOK feature, daily reports and alerts. It is a great help in trying to figure out the patterns when something is not working.
Simple , easy to use yet very powerful.

What do you like best about the product?
Definitely the fact that Amplitude helps me and a lot of colleagues of mine quantify the impact our features and products are making to our users. It helps us understand what is getting used the most, where users are dropping off, and most importantly it helps us back up decisions and make decisions on how to improve our flows.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes it is tricky to know which events to pull in to create a meaningful chart to track metrics across the whole company. But downloading a chrome extension `Segment Event Tracker` makes it a lot easier.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Amplitude helps us understand where users are dropping off for given tasks they are trying to complete, tasks that we have built the tooling to solve for. We can dive into the data to understand what the users were doing and what caused them to drop off. Knowing these details are the first step to solving the problem. Amplitude helps us identify and improve flows for all our users.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I highly recommend using Amplitude Analytics! Especially if you are in a product or offering based company. Download the chrome extension `Segment Event Tracker` to make it easier to create charts.

    Computer Software

An important toolkit for SaaS products

  • November 13, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The collaboration features are excellent. Take something someone else on the team has made and easily remix it. Paste a link for others to easily paint a picture.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's a lot of work to get the right data flowing into the system so that the right insights can be used. There's more that can be done through using formulas, but it's hard to get started.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use amplitude to make data-informed decisions about how our product is actually used. It's helpful to use some of that data to separate fact from opinion.

Great analytics tool for event data

  • November 13, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Usability of the browser based tool is very simple and intuitive. The easiness to customize/personalize existing reports is what I like best but also the variety of available chart types is really great.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only challenge I have with Amplitude is the performance on my device. Especially in combination with a video conferencing tool the loading times go significantly up and my notebook comes to its limits - but maybe only because it's already 2 years old.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
User behavior and user funnel analyzes

Powerful and robust BI tool for event based analysis that continuously improves

  • November 13, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- Amplitude's speed to product charts and graphs is generally very fast, and their UI is pretty easy to use and understand.
- They are constantly improving the product to allow for more flexible reporting and fine grained analysis
- Good documentation for understanding how data is grouped and created
- good flexibility with group() properties
- Good ability to transform data errors / event cleanup
What do you dislike about the product?
- It would be great if you could see the underlying data structure and how the GUI is translated into SQL, to help validate the result is what you are intending.
- There is an inability to do user aliasing other than with deviceId
- Like most GUI BI tool there are some limitations on how you can structure and group data, mostly around time series filtering of events. Amplitude is pretty flexible, but you will still want another DB for more complex SQL queries.
- Unable to "backdate" identify() calls
- Some limitations on event and property transformations - more complex "if-then" would help solve this
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest benefit of Amplitude is that it allows more than just data scientists and analysts to look at customer journeys and get insights for growth and improvement
