What do you like best about the product?
I am a satisfied customer of Pantheon, I have initiated it for our new projects and to tackle all the issue related to technical handling of the data. It is unlike any DevOps, DXP, and Hosting application and advanced in its working as a WebOps tool. My whole team, including our web developers and our editors has found it very reliable in its operation because overall it has boosted the efficiency of our processes and helped in automation, thus we have got rid o the repetitive tasks as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
I am its new customers and still I am discovering its amazing qualities with every passing day. It has overcome my organization with its essential and effective tool, which has added to our business value.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Its configuration has allowed us to open source stack for increasing the process efficiency and stability. Also it is very much concerned regarding security. Now I am not concerned about the working of the servers neither we are worried about any complex coding.

What do you like best about the product?
Thanks to the performance of the platform I can maintain a constant workflow. We can carry out a variety of projects by activating wordpress and work based on the criteria that the client wants in a safe way and thus obtain the best result for our user.
I must add that the tools are very pleasant and simple, uploading information from one page to another is very effective, and the servers it offers are very efficient, thus creating a very fast page for our clients to navigate.
What do you dislike about the product?
It has obvious limitations due to the cloud, the cost has not been easy to maintain, there are platforms that offer similar tools and facilities at a lower price.
I do not have much to indicate, your tool can improve aesthetically although it does not affect the operation of the system, it is an idea of improvement.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It covered our development-based ideas and tasks just as the production line has increased dramatically. It allows us to do an optimal job in less time and with better results, clients are more than satisfied with our performance thanks to PATHEON.

Billing is their weakness

  • April 24, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Their platform has been one of the best complimentary services to my small company. It allows me to build and maintain Drupal and Wordpress sites quicker and easier than other platforms, while providing me the security net of dev and test environments and the ability to add more if needed. I feel the sites are safer on their platform than many others as they take additional steps to help protect from common site attacks.
What do you dislike about the product?
Billing... plain and simple. I have noticed some displeasing occurrences with their billing. Knowing the secrets to avoid these pitfalls is essential or you will lose additional money.

Number one and foremost, if you update your credit card (including just updating the expiration date) or if you have someone else take over the account's billing, you must manually go back and request a refund within 90 days to get your unused money back. This should be automatically given back, but it is not. Major disappointment in how the company is ran there.

Number two, all billing is ran once a month or once a year (excluding new accounts). This is a major hassle if your client just wants one invoice and pays you for their hosting costs and does not pay Pantheon directly. So say you have all your accounts renewing on April 1st, and your client wants to pay you for a year of hosting, but it is now May 15th. Well when you add the account to Pantheon, it will prorate their one year term to renew on April 1st, and not May 15th. So either you have to prorate your client yourself and tell them they are getting less than a year's term, or you have to charge them more, or come April 1st the following year you have to pay an additional year out of your own pocket and then request a refund for the remaining balance come May 15th, or let it run and hope your client repays you. All in all, very much a hassle and a much better practice to make your client's put it on their card anyways. Client's that deal in cash only are the only ones that this hurts.

Third, high prices. It is hard to convince startup clients why they should be paying $50/month ($30/month for Partner Pricing) vs the $4-10/month they see from GoDaddy and other providers. That additional amount can be a hard pill for them to swallow as most startups under-estimate the costs of maintaining a website. They think once you paid for the initial development that they are done, but that is not the case many times when they are running CMS's that require constant updates.

Lastly, pricing changes. This has only happened once, since I have been a customer, but it personally cost me several hundred dollars as I was having clients pay me for hosting and not directly paying Pantheon. Again best practice is to make sure they put it on their cards. Pricing changes happen across all companies, but with their prices already much higher than cpanel sites, it can be a dagger in the heart for some clients. I just pray they do not raise the rates any higher. My suggestion to Pantheon is that anytime you have a pricing change, do not change your existing customers who have helped you build your company. Just make the change affect new sites, and let those who have been with you the longest enjoy the benefits of being your customers. This will help build customer loyalty.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Pantheon helps smaller teams to be able to keep Drupal and Wordpress sites up-to-date with their constant maintenance requirements, while providing essential tools to ensure the stability of the sites and providing backups for when bugs occur during updates.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Watch out for billing, and make sure you are getting what you paid for, but other than that enjoy!

Learning to manage our Drupal site Pantheon-style has made me a better development manager

  • March 30, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Pantheon's git-based workflow and the ease of creating new multidev environments are best-in-class. Whenever I'm stuck in a development environment with some other system that only has staging vs prod, instead of the ability to stand up dedicated development environments for a branch, it feels like I've gone back to the stone age.

They're also basically bullet-proof. They've easily scaled to 10 tens our normal traffic during spike events, without any manual intervention whatsoever.
What do you dislike about the product?
The approach to Composer in Drupal 8 has changed a couple of times, and I would have liked more intensive communication about why and how, since changing an active site's approach was complicated and more error-prone than I liked. I also don't think they've quite got this licked, at least if you're doing anything more complicated that using their standard upstream with one-click updates.

I'd also like a more sophisticated logging operation. Baked-in New Relic is great, but their still needs to be a solid solution for Drupal dblog. We ship our logs out to logz.io, which has worked for us, but it seems like a missing piece of a webops platform to have better out-of-the-box logging options. Backing in some kind of logging services the way Solr is baked in would be helpful.

I've also run into some oddball filesystem issues and the one bit of unplanned downtime we've had with Pantheon was due to the redis caches getting into an inconsistent state during a deploy. Pantheon identified it quickly, but I don't think they recognized the root cause of the problem — if a deploy can break the consistency of a cache enough to cause downtime, then the deploy should automatically clear the cache.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A major magazine website serving millions of pageviews a month running on Drupal 8. Almost zero unplanned downtime over multiple years. Multiple devs working together on different features on different timelines.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure your team is committed to using the git-based workflow fully. Carefully plan how you're going to use Composer to manage dependencies within that workflow and think about how you'll manage upstream updates and modules that you need to pin to certain versions before you deploy.
