Invaluable User Feedback

  • September 24, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
UserTesting made it fast and easy to collect specific feedback from our target audience. I appreciate the ability to really drill down into audience characteristics to ensure the users providing feedback were our target. I was blown away by the speed and quality of the feedback provided. The testers seemed very invested in providing honest, detailed feedback and not like they were just checking a box to earn a reward.
What do you dislike about the product?
It was a bit cumbersome to get through all the user reviews collected ... though that was because there was such a good amount of feedback provided, so perhaps no even that much of a negative!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have used UserTesting in several scenarios. First, we used it to test and validate our product messaging. The feedback we received in this area was invaluable - testers helped us identify areas in our message that were unclear and we made several significant changes to our website as a result of the feedback. We've also used the product to help optimize the flow of our site and ensure there were no significant roadblocks preventing users from completing a transaction. Again, this feedback immediately helped us identify several opportunities for improvement.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
UserTesting should definitely be part of your product and marketing toolbox - use it early and often! We had good success using a variety of more broad and general questions in addition to asking for very specific feedback.

Simple for users and researchers

  • September 23, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I've been able to use it as a user and as a researcher, and I found it easy to use and helpful in the research process.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do not think I have used it enough to really find things I dislike so far.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have been able to use UserTesting for several types of user tests. It is flexible enough to test in several ways and get feedback on different aspects on the site we were working on. It's been helpful both when we've selected our own testers and when they recruit for us.

UserTesting is not perfect, but the interface is user friendly

  • September 23, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
What I like the best is that User Testing has a good user-friendly dashboard; the solution we are using right now, which is certainly your competitor, has more features, but in my opinion, that brings a lot of unneeded complexity and in certain times feels hard to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
My company is not using UserTesting for a while, because they moved for another solution, but if I remember well, your video player is very buggy. I don't know if this issue was just with me, but a few times, I really couldn't navigate through the video (skip through different sections and bullet points on the video), but that might be just an abnormal situation. Another thing I noticed was the quality of the testers; a few times, I ran into people who only responded positive things about my design, without questioning anything, to go through the test and complete quickly. Feels like this person only wanted the money and didn't care about tests.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am a UX designer qualified by my company to conduct small studies, so when I used User Testing, it was to test a few nuts and bolts of the experience and see if those resonate with my population so that I can have at least some validation that I am solving the right problem the right way. I realized that other than few users who seem to be on the platform to grab some easy money, there are really serious people who gave me exciting feedback, and I was able to change my designs based on their inputs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Really what I recommend and like about User Testing is the easiness of the use and how fast they get qualified testers.

What do you like best about the product?
the easy interface and the great customer service
What do you dislike about the product?
As a tester, you will get a lot of the same tests even when you have declined it
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's a great way to let your websites being experienced by a fresh eye
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Organisations should have clear what their goal is and what do they want to find out with these tests

Extremely useful platform, helps get user insights FAST

  • September 23, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The speed at which you can gain valuable user insights - you can prepare a script, launch a test, and have insights all within a few hours. I also like the ability to target tests to specific personas - based on their demographics and the screeners, it's really easy to get exactly the type of people you want for your test.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the testers are "experienced" and sometimes are eager to please, so give feedback that might not always be quite right - this is just the nature of user testing however, not entirely to do with the platform.

I would also like to be able to release surveys within the usertesting platform that aren't video recorded - the screeners and demographic questions are a great feature of the platform that I'd like to be able to tie to surveys with large numbers of people, but only view a small percentage of video recordings.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We answer usability questions within a mobile app, and try and understand if a feature will be valuable to a user, through both unmoderated and live interview tests. Unmoderated tests are particularly useful for testing hypotheses within the live app, while live interviews are more useful for understanding users and their needs.

We also conduct initial user research before starting to design a feature, and conduct brand studies where we measure users' perspectives on the brand. This can involve first impressions on brand images, as well as word association tasks.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This platform is very useful for those that want to rapidly iterate on a product with informed user research. If you work in a fast paced environment the platform is particularly good for getting results fast. If you are conducting more in depth research then the platform can also be useful.

Great tool for all kinds of rapid testing and fast feedback

  • September 23, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Usertesting is an excellent tool to gain qualitative feedback on multiple experiments - from marketing messages to product design to concept comprehension. The ability to launch a test and get feedback within minutes or hours is incredible and allows us to move quickly on initiatives with higher confidence.
What do you dislike about the product?
One challenge I have experienced with Usertesting is being able to understand what kind of account permissions I have. I've had my seat changed several times and have never received and email announcing the changes and what they mean to me.

Also, sometimes the users are able to sneak their way past the screener and it is unfortunate we cannot mark those responses as invalid or be able to suppress those users from future similar tests.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have used this platform to optimize designs, improve marketing copy, and run "mini" surveys on my target audience. I love being able to reach prospects through UserTesting.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you want a more robust quantitative service, I would do more research on UserTesting. For any qualitative research, I would strongly recommend this platform.

Great for gathering user insights

  • September 23, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The speed at which the tests fill in makes it really easy to gather insights.

We are not only capable of validating everything easily, but most importantly, discard all the unnecessary tools and features, keeping the interface minimalistic and easy to use for anyone interested in playing guitar.
What do you dislike about the product?
It would be better if the tests weren't put on hold whenever a user encounters a problem. Or if the holds were removed automatically, so that we don't have to stay on top of the tool.

Also, the new features that were added to UT (positive and negative) are completely irrelevant, so they just keep cluttering the screen.

Sometimes, the interface works quite slow and I just think the performance of the product could be highly improved.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are a very innovative application that uses artificial intelligence and augmented reality to teach people to play the guitar. Since what we're doing is very unique, getting those user insights that validate the designs is critical. It is therefore very important for us to have a service like User Testing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a great tool for gathering user insights. It's great but at times it feels a bit sluggish to work with, so hire it if you have the time to stay on top of your user research.

Easy to get quick insights to help inform directions

  • September 22, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love how User Testing takes users' feedback and implements changes to the product to make it more user friendly. I feel like a valued customer! Also, it's a super quick and easy way to get questions answered to help inform decisions or next steps.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's expensive. And not all the features are as user friendly as I'd like to have them be. So, it can take more time than necessary to set up a test because there aren't as many short cuts available yet. But, they listen to users and implement changes quickly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work on a lot of different areas in my company as a user researcher. This platform allows me to democratize research so that product managers and designers feel empowered to learn from consumers and ask questions to inform their work. It also helps us do competitive analyses quickly and usability tests.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Negotiate the price

Useful Service

  • September 22, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I liked that you could get real feedback on your website, and that it was usually pretty detailed as well. Being able to set your own questions that the tester would have to answer/navigate to was really helpful because in some ways you are better able to get targeted guidance rather then generic.
What do you dislike about the product?
My biggest frustration was with the people chosen to interact with my site. I specifically set up "pre-screening" questions because I have a really niche market. Multiple times I got people who either had no clue what my site was about (I am a tarot reader) or they disagree with my profession so they would leave really short answers. And when you are having to pay a significant amount of money for those videos it is hard when you are not getting quality testing.

I really miss the free option that the company used to have. I imagine that there were people who would take advantage of it but for a small business it can be really cost prohibitive to take a risk on a video that may not be at all helpful. Having a free option, even to just get a feel for how the platform works, makes it less frustrating if the test turns out to be not useable. It was frustrating enough that I never paid for more then 3 tests (which was a significant amount of money for what I ended up getting.

I also found that it was frustrating too when people gave brief answers to questions you set, or completely ignored the question. For example I might ask how easy it was to locate something and they would instead talk about how they felt about a color or an image. Still important feedback, but not what I was most concerned about, if that makes sense. Maybe a bit more attention to who gets to do the testing?
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The helpful tests that I did get were key to me seeing what path needed to be taken to get to a particular place - ie, if it was easy for clients to locate. I also learned what color schemes seemed to frustrate people as well as what images they would expect to see. After implementing the changes most often submitted I saw a sales increase of 113% the first year. I have also been able to look at my site with a more critical eye.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This has a lot of potential to be helpful if you have a site that is in a more mainstream industry. More niche industries seem to be hard to place open-minded testers on. Expect that at least one test will likely be less then helpful. As of last look there is no free option any longer, so expect to pay $50-$100 just to get started.
