Great way to quickly reach relevant users for qualitative testing

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The review features like being able to cut clips, annotate, and share those out easily, has made it super easy to share research out with the product team and get by in outside of just research/design.
What do you dislike about the product?
I know there are some integrations with things like Optimal Sort which I haven't fully explored but I'd love to see more flexibility in ways we can conduct research while tapping into the great usertesting.com network of testers/audiences.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Validating both explorative ideas as well as usability testing. I use it for qualitative interviews and then for more nitty gritty UI details.

Usertesting is one of the most favorable portals to host a study on in these quarantine times!

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Instant access to the database of users...and the fact that all studies have a voice recording.
What do you dislike about the product?
The survey capabilities can be improved a whole lot
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Quick usability studies on digital features. Consumer insights on behavior patterns and lifestyles.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It definitely adds value to your research, with the voice capture feature!

Great for small batch remote UX research, Not as great with quantitative research.

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Enables us to launch research that fills up quickly with participants who give great feedback. Like the note taking and video sharing features of user testing.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish we could have a more simply formatted excel sheet that is shared out. Also wish that user testing could enable us to do larger quantitative studies. It would be amazing to be able to use it as a one stop shop for user testing. Also with each update to the UI the way we plan and schedule tests feels more convoluted. I wish they could think through a simple way to save and choose a set of screener questions. Especially for large corporate accounts that multiple teams fall under like ours.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're solving problems around how to structure UI/UX for banking customers both in the marketing/selling space and in servicing. We've seen great benefits for quick turnaround testing and quickly recieving feedback.

UserTesting is really good for Usability Testing, but be cautious of "Professional Testers"

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The tools for setting up a test, as well as for evaluation and note taking are really helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
The pool of users have begun to come across as "Professional Users" and do not accurately reflect users which are less experienced in digital products – we've seen differences in users which come from our own recruitment methods and those directly from UserTesting. In addition, when introducing screeners to weed out certain users, sometimes some users get through who seem to have figured out a way to always qualify.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
User Testing helps us spin up tests quickly to catch problems early and often.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It really is a great tool for usability testing if you can weed out the professional users and find the users that really do match your audience. There are not logic based survey questions included – which I think could be really useful.

  • March 27, 2020

Seeing interactions and hearing oral feedback
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes laggy/slow, but may not be UT's fault
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ability to capture data from multiple users quickly. Quick turnaround
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Understand users' remote capabilities and train them on expectations for remote testing.

UT Review

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
1. access to wide array of users
2. templates for tests
3. automation of steps and deployment
What do you dislike about the product?
UI is a confusing.
- templates are buried three steps in
- a simple 'save' functionality to reassure you after you have created a test.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
- validating new features
- understanding old features
- user sentiment
- using data to back up design direction

Extremely useful and effective way of getting real user's insights on a product

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The very quick turnaround on getting results - I can learn something about my product / designs / branding within a couple of hours from real people
What do you dislike about the product?
Very minor quibbles here and there - I wish it was more collaborative in terms of working with others in my team. It would be nice if multiple people could comment on tester videos and it say who in my team wrote those comments and we could upvote / downvote people's comments on eachother's tests.
I also wish there was a better way of extracting the data and answers from the tests - the format in the excel spreadsheets is not very useful as the tasks or questions are split from each other (e.g. row one: task 1; row two: question from task 1 and answers) so there is a space in between all of the useful data. I would also recommend making these portable to google spreadsheets as this is what my company uses and is far more collaborative than microsoft excel.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have solved various UX problems - understanding what is more intuitive for users. I have often found that I can have a certain perspective on a design on product and users around the world have a completely different perspective because they haven't been working on it. We did a quick brand and logo analysis and most users preferred logos that the team hadn't even considered as the top options moving forward.

A Great Tool for Gathering User Insights

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The biggest upside of UserTesting is their participant pool and filtering abilities. I can find current customers of our business, people who have never heard of our company, or even people who used to use the site but now don't in such little time! Creating tests are fairly effortless, though it takes time and practice to perfect the tests and gather the best insights possible. There are an unlimited number of tasks and questions you can provide to your testers in order to get whatever insight you need.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the quality of the testers are not great. I have too often received testers for my tests that have obviously lied in the screener questions or their profiles. For example, I have gotten testers who are 21-years-old and have a 17-year-old child. Or I have had testers who, in the screener questions, said that they have used our website before, but during the test, they state that they have never used the website before. This is frustrating and often leads to wasted time on my end. I also wish that the template questions and tasks were more nuanced. For example, template rating scale questions should be of a "rating scale" type, not a generic "task" type.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are trying to solve various questions that many different stakeholders in our company have, from the IT department to the Marketing teams to the Sales and Merchandising teams. These questions are being funneled to me, the UX researcher, who then uses UserTesting to see how members of the public react to our site.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Talk to their sales specialists and user researchers. They are all very knowledgeable and helpful people who can help you determine if UserTesting is right for you.

An awesome tool to learn from them about all sorts of things, not just usability

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The range of the users we can reach out to and the ability to learn about their values and beliefs, not just find out if we have put buttons in the right place.
Great video editing suite
What do you dislike about the product?
The way you organise files
Inability to delete or recall research published in error
The fact that only 1 5 second test can be run in any one round of research
The name of your product - it makes people assume they are looking for definitive answers to pass/fail tests. Research is about learning. The name of the tool affects the discourse around the tool and makes it harder to make product and designers think about learning not testing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Reaching out to customers of competitors
Doing pre-discovery work to determine if there is value in escalating to face to face lab or home visits
Rapid prototyping
Recommendations to others considering the product:
none

Quick feedback and product iteration

  • March 27, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We are able to have truely agile product development with User Testing because of their quick filling and creation of tests. The templates are great places to start any sort of test, and we are able to iterate on our product ideas incredibly quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
Restarting tests can sometimes be really cumbersome.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving a lot of problems with trying to iterate quickly on prototypes to get to a solution quickly that has been validated. This kind of testing usually would take us weeks. We've now figured out how to run 3 4 or 5 rounds of feedback with people over just a couple of days and get to some of the bigger issues with our ideas before it ever even goes into development. It saves a huge amount of time for us.
