Kong makes API Management easy task for us

  • November 13, 2023
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Kong has the easy to understand user interface for managing APIs using the Gateway Manager and Mesh Manager. Support via email is responsive and timely. We were smoothly able to integrate APIs hosted on AWS infrastructure.
What do you dislike about the product?
Analytics are on-point but it could be more comprehensive, else everything looks great.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used to depend on AWS API gateway but it was a basic tool and had scalability. Now we can efficiently manage APIs using Kong's Gateway Manager and Mesh Manager.

What do you like best about the product?
Fast prototyping for our nascent company.
What do you dislike about the product?
You should consider a basic always free version for small use cases and applications
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have a lot of services spread thin. Developing them inhouse is a real pain. Kong helped in rapid development here

Kong API Gateway: A Review of Its Features and Benefits

  • November 12, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
There are many things I like about Kong API Gateway, but here are a few of my favorites:

Performance and scalability: Kong is built on top of NGINX, which makes it extremely fast and scalable. It can handle millions of requests per second with ease.
Flexibility: Kong is highly extensible through plugins. This means that you can add new features and functionality to Kong to meet your specific needs.
Open source: Kong is an open source project, which means that it is free to use and modify. This also means that there is a large community of users and contributors who can help you if you have any problems.
Cloud native: Kong is cloud native, which means that it is easy to deploy and manage in the cloud. It also supports a wide range of cloud providers, such as AWS, Azure, and GCP.
Its support for multiple protocols: Kong supports a wide range of protocols, including REST, gRPC, WebSockets, and GraphQL. This makes it a good choice for managing APIs of all types.
Its extensive plugin library: Kong has a large and growing library of plugins. There are plugins for everything from authentication and authorization to rate limiting and caching.
What do you dislike about the product?
Lack of native support for API generation: Kong does not offer native functionality to generate APIs automatically. This can be a significant issue if you cannot
import your desired API, which is a reason why Kong may not be right for you.
Steep learning curve for advanced features: While Kong is relatively easy to learn and use for basic tasks, the learning curve for more advanced features, such as plugins and custom routing, can be quite steep.
Limited support for certain technologies: Kong does not offer native support for certain technologies, such as GraphQL and gRPC. While there are plugins available for these technologies, they may not be as robust as native support.
Community support can be inconsistent: The Kong community is generally helpful and supportive, but the level of support can be inconsistent. Sometimes it can take a while to get a response to a question or issue.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Routing and load balancing: Kong can route traffic to the appropriate backend services and load balance traffic across multiple instances of backend services. This can improve performance, reliability, and scalability.
Authentication and authorization: Kong can authenticate and authorize users to access specific APIs and resources. This can help to protect your APIs from unauthorized access.
Rate limiting: Kong can limit the number of requests that a user can make to an API within a given period of time. This can help to prevent abuse and protect your APIs from being overloaded.
Caching: Kong can cache responses from your APIs to improve performance and reduce the load on your backend servers.
Logging and monitoring: Kong can log and monitor requests and responses to identify and troubleshoot problems.

I like the variety of deployment options Kong has, which are documented thoroughly and provide a lot of flexibility. It also scales very well, making it easy to support ellastic tasks.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think there is quite a lot of space to improve the developer portals. But I am impressed pretty much that it can be used in hybrid/multi-clouds and it supports load balancing pretty well.

Both API design and management. It provided us a roadway to follow to design our APIs and simplified the management of our APIs.
