Peace of Mind for IT Infrastructure
What do you like best about the product?
The most important aspect of any monitoring application is reliability - this provides administrative staff the peace of mind that is critical to operations. You also can't beat the price - it's FREE. Besides that the alerts and visualization are more than sufficient for a small to medium sized IT infrastructure. Other notable features:
Process monitoring
Web based interface and free 3rd party mobile apps
Customization of alerts
Support for most all OS platforms
Support for SNMP
Easy of configuration with templates
Database monitors - these are freely available via the active forum and commuity

What do you dislike about the product?
With more power comes complexity but this a partially mitigated via the active community forum. The documentation is not the best and like most complex software platforms can be confusing and missing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main business problem is downtime that is not good for any real-time operations. The service monitor provide advanced warnings and pro-active alerts when things are starting to bad; this provide the admin staff early warning and a chance to mitigate any situation that poses a risk of downtime.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Due diligence with what you want to achieve and set the expectation level of the implementation team accordingly. Planning is important - do the templates and agent support your monitoring environment.

A stalwart soul amongst its competitors
What do you like best about the product?
The ease of configuring our various systems into Zabbix and reviewing recorded metrics in a GUI are probably the best features for our team. We've got a lot of resources and aren't typically pushing them to the brink. However, when issues arise, the ability to analyze and correlate load across multiple hosts has been a big win.
What do you dislike about the product?
A monitoring system and the story of the boy who cried wolf, never the twain should meet. Unfortunately, we have some situations where we receive so many messages about an error that it leads to the formation of bad habits. This is largely due to our system architecture and how specific monitors detect and report the same issue on multiple hosts. Specifically, storage utilization on a shared mount. We've made some inroads in solving this, but it continues to be a source of spam and desensitization to warning messages.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have quite a few hosts across multiple test and an operations environment. Being able to integrate the monitoring of those into a single monitoring solution has been a critical aspect of our systems approach. Being able to create custom screens/dashboards for high-interest metrics makes it simpler to filter through the noise and focus on what we care the most about.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
We've used other monitoring systems like Nagios and Hyperion. Zabbix is a simple solution that has many of the core features you want out of a system/application monitoring application. I recommend it as a tool that you evaluate when considering system monitors.
Fairly Intuituive and Fully Customize-able
What do you like best about the product?
Zabbix provides incredibly flexible reporting and monitoring views on a huge number of metrics. While not the most intuitive option, the ability to scrutinize your environment from many different perspectives outweighs the time consumed to set it up.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not intuitive at all to set up, as I mentioned before it this is hugely outweighed by the flexibility of the product. The setup of this product is not to be taken lightly though, as it's time consuming and requires systems and networking experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This product provides huge flexibility for monitoring services and machines on our network and even to go as far as inventory management.
Powerful, open source monitoring system
What do you like best about the product?
Before Zabbix, I was using Nagios as the monitoring system, Munin for usage graphs, and Diamond for application specific graphs. Now, we are able to keep it in one, slack solution, which is easier for developers to use. There is a great community, which is very helpful, and on the GitHub, you are able to found a lot of templates for almost any application. Community support is quick and responsive. Using API, you are able to integrate Zabbix with many other applications.
What is important for us - Zabbix is open source software, so we were able to fix some stuff by ourselves.

What do you dislike about the product?
It's sometimes hard to configure, needs strong technical skills. Also, database usage isn't optimal, and there is no easy option to undo your changes if you (for example) remove a host from the zabbix. The user interface could be improved because it's a little outdated. The graphs could also be improved, the current solutions is useful, but definitely, interactive graphs could help with analyzing data.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were able to cut time, that developer needed to analyze part of the problem, because all graphs, automated issue reporting, and notifications were consolidated in one place. Our alerts are fully automated, forwarded to slack, then if nobody responds in few minutes, automatically send to mobiles of our team.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Sometimes it's better to hire external consultant to fully setup zabbix.
Great monitoring platform
What do you like best about the product?
Really like how easy it is to install and administrate. very light weight and can be easily customized to your needs
What do you dislike about the product?
Missing SAML SSO capabilities, Identifying problematic monitored items can be a little tricky (unsupported items) and lastly it's missing the ability to easily show multiple hosts with the same item on a single chart.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Monitoring our different environments, physical servers / virtual servers, applications level monitoring, inventory
Reports On Everything, If You Can Find It
What do you like best about the product?
It can report on pretty much any and all useful statistics on all your servers, as well as turn all the statistics into graphs.
What do you dislike about the product?
If you don't know what you're doing, it can be difficult to get it to report on the data you're actually looking for
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Performance issues. It becomes easier to see all server statistics at any point in time, so problem solving time is generally decreased.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Good software, UI is steadily improving, and getting easier to use
Great open source monitoring software
What do you like best about the product?
Easy installation and configuration of agents on host machines.
Open source and a big community.
Auto discovery and configuration of hosts and their templates and host groups using metadata is a great feature.
Multi platform support (windows, linux and mac) for agents.
Good documentation.

Monitoring of over 300 multi platform servers and build machines with software that was more flexible than the internal monitoring software we were using.
Receive alerts as soon as a problem occurs.

Real-time monitoring of systems. Benefit is that we are notified in real-time on errors and issues.
SysAdmin Engineer
What do you like best about the product?
Low Level Discovery is so powerful. I don't understand why so many people sometimes oversight this amazing feature. You can write applications that output the JSON format for LDD and you can even use Zabbix to instrument your applications performance for free! Zabbix distributed architecture is great, the documentation is very thoughtful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Easy to use, hard to master. Mastering Zabbix have a steep learning curve, but that is a consequence of being a very flexible monitoring system.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have been able to self discover infrastructure components and application services, auto-register cloud hosts into Zabbix, and trigger the Zabbix API to automate the process of off-boarding cloud servers, Zabbix has a very important role in the server lifecycle.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a try! At first glance, Zabbix might appear like an outdated tool, and for some people just noticing that the front-end is written in PHP scares them away in panic (yeah I know is PHP!) however given the distributed architecture of Zabbix you even can ignore that front-end and still have a fully working monitoring system. Zabbix is a very powerful and extensible tool if you master the tool you will really need nothing else for system monitoring solution, except for a huge log monitoring where I think Zabbix falls short and other solutions like ElasticSearch might be more appropriate. A note to developers if they ever read this, the actions section needs a little refinement, only depending on passing positional arguments is a little bit limiting.
Long time Zabbix user
What do you like best about the product?
Zabbix is easy to implement, provides graphs of the measured resource and summarizes the data.
What do you dislike about the product?
Automated remote actions can be challenging. This may be due to the version my systems are on, though.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ability to review activity to determine when resources are constrained and when that causes other problems.
