Alfresco as ECMS

What do you like best about the product?
Alfresco has a lot of features, the fact that you can develop a custom content model. It also has quite a number of useful plugins developed by the community. You can easily edit word documents online.
What do you dislike about the product?
The installation of Alfresco is a bit complicated, though you can easily spin it up using docker-compose. You need to have deep knowledge about it before you can administer it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With Alfresco Community, we able able to have a robust document management system for our institution.

Community Edition ECM takes time if you have it

  • January 24, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
There is a decent dev community and it leverages much of the enterprise features.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are not many integrations and add-ons available. Enterprise has connectors and are well supported. The user interface is also limited.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Alfresco Community Edition helps stand up core content management needs with little development. Anything beyond that needs more dev and support.

unfortunately a package with many problems.

it does not allow to search for a user, there is no preview of documents (only pdf), when restarting the services the system breaks and generates many errors; support is not agile.

This version fails to reindex a large database imported from Alfresco version 5.2

I updated my Alfresco server from v5.2 to v6.2 (201911 GA), importing a large data directory and backup of database. However, it seems that solr6 is not able to reindex the database (in Alfresco 5.2 solr4 was used) because of a bug (going out of memory during the reindex process) that Alfresco recognized in Alfresco Search Services 1.4.2 that comes with version 201911 GA. Alfresco has recently released Alfresco Search Services 1.4.3 and even 2.0, but the latest Community Edition is still 201911 GA. Do you have any plan to upgrade Alfresco Search Services in the Bitnami image?

Very useful product

It's a simple way to run test environment. The instance is incredibly small - 2 vCPU, 4GB RAM. Strange choice is old ubuntu version 16.04.

Setup quite easy - Unfortunately you can't find groups and users...

That's too bad. I urgently needed an Alfresco environment. But without being able to find users and groups, the instance is useless to me.

Not working - Cannot find users

DO NOT USE THIS VERSION 5.0b. There is a fix in 5.0c but the Marketplace has not been updated!!!
I just installed this version (5.0.b) from the AWS marketplace. The application comes up, you can create sites, and groups. The main issue is you cannot add users into the groups. The system just does not find any user (even the default or admin account). Trying to find instructions on how to upgrade to the next version is not much better.

Build from scratch.

great but not for testing

It is great you get a working environment in a matter of minutes, however this is not available as a t1.micro instance and therefore not eligible for amazon free tier, to be able to evaluate and develop without extra charges.

Already bought two services from the bitnami. Everything is working fine. Established immediately and without problems. Recommended!

Bitnami powered Alfresco on AWS - Great but could be better

  • April 12, 2013

I am a big fan of AWS but I'm no command line guru. What I love about the Bitnami service is that you can be up and running on a number of popular and useful platforms very quickly without having to worry about configuring mysql, apache, php, etc. They're just all there in the right directories pre-configured to interoperate and support your chosen application package, which in this case is the excellent groupware platform Alfresco (better than SharePoint in my humble opinion).

My only problem with the Bitnami configuration is that they haven't solved outbound email. I've used Google to search for how to make this work and after about twenty different approaches I gave up. Which means that I can create other users but I can't invite them to the site. Which means I have a groupware site with a user population of 1 - about as much use as a chocolate teapot!

Please sort this out and you'll get 5 stars.
