Great software for testing APIs

  • August 27, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
All the tests created in Postman can be easily reutilized in different projects without tinkering a lot, some just need to change the URL of the server to test it in a real environment but even the tests can be the same in vastly different APIs. It can be batch processed to check for several elements with one click to only focus on the failed tests.
What do you dislike about the product?
While it has improved vastly in the last few years, some queries with GraphQL and REST fail in postman and work correctly in the browser but that is normal since it is a testing environment.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Testing APIs, mainly dealing with NETCONF and REST based APIs
Recommendations to others considering the product:
A lot better than using curl or using a browser to test APIs

Made collaborative testing of our new API a breeze!

  • August 25, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Collaborative testing of API with the click of a button.

• Ease of use
• Collaboration
• Copy out API calls to the script of your choice.
• Easily follow links
What do you dislike about the product?
The only sticking point we've faced is overwriting our library of API calls when testing some tweaks. A lock/protect feature would be huge. They may already have this and I'm not aware of it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Postman to test calls to our API in support of our customers.

Postman

  • August 16, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Postman is helpful in testing API for my integration purpose, either to test third party API or my API. Postman also supports easily on creating new calls, you can import/export it from various sources using cURL, PHP, C#, python and many more.
With postman, it actually supports multiplatform. But looks like it's not enough, they also support as a chrome plugin. This is a huge advantage for those working on different platform/computer, they basically able to take their collection anywhere.
What do you dislike about the product?
What I dislike about postman is its interface, it's not easy to use it for the beginner, takes time to learn. It also doesn't support API calls simulation for concurrent calls or the frequency calls, if we can define the number of calls within period of time, that would be amazing.
Another thing is, they deprecated the chrome version and suggest to use native apps, which I think poor decision in term of portability.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With postman, I was able to test my API/third party API before going to fully implement it in my development. Even, I can investigate production issue just by using postman to determine where the actual problem is.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use postman to build API collections for testing purposes. I also use postman to develop API, test its use cases and verify the different scenarios and API behavior easily using postman.
Recommendations to others considering the product:

A Software Development platform for Testing APIs

  • August 11, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is a programming interface for API or applications. It helps various components of software to interact with each other through its sets of protocols and rules. It helps in reducing development time through its practical features and services. Postman helps in testing APIs. It creates the request of APIs according to specifications of APIs before testing. It also provides code snippets in which response code validations are embedded.
What do you dislike about the product?
Its pricing model is costly for enterprises. Numbers of requests are also limited to its enterprise version. There are limited sharing options between teams. Testing more than one APIs are difficult. It will take a lot of time to know about its advanced features. Its user interface should be improved more. Documentation procedure should provide more information.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Automating tests is easier through postman by using its API testing tools and various features like build requests, write test suites etc. It is a cost-effective platform as the postman is providing various features in its free plan. Its command-line tool helps to integrate easily with its built-in systems. It also helps in storing your information in an organized way. It also allows manipulating received data in different ways. It also helps to share and export collection of files for testing.

My go-to tool for all my api validation tasks

  • August 08, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Postman has a very easy to to use user interface which is both intuitive and highly customizable. It lets me easily invoke webservices with very little configuration to be done up front. The pre-test tab lets you to add scripts to dynamically construct API requests and you can validate the response from the API using scripts under the tests tab which is a huge advantage with Postman. You can also share requests quite easily by the import wizard in Postman or share an entire workspace by itself.
What do you dislike about the product?
When using collections runner, you cannot include APIs or web services from multiple collections in your workspace. Also to note, only one data file can be specified in the collections runner window which is not really useful when you want to execute multiple apis with its own sets of data,
Postman console always opens up as a new window and cannot be docked into the main postman window. This is kind of difficult when you want to see trace console activity side-by-side when working on your main window.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A very simple, easy to understand user interface is the biggest benefit I have come across using postman. You can get started with very little set up and learning curve. I use Postman to trigger webservices, validate response and even perform some good level of automated testing. Postman allows creation of scripts which can be executed before triggering an API request as well as to assert on the response payload. This is particularly useful when you need need to construct dynamic API requests by supplying parameters and to assert on the attributes from the response. Postman sandbox also provides a number of NodeJs modules like url, assert, string-decoder, timers etc, The sandbox also support built in libraries like lodash and moment.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Postman is a must-have tool when working with micro-services today. Its highly intuitive interface to compose and run API requests means that you'll be up and running wit Postman in no time. Postman also lets you create dynamic web service requests and you can also write assertions on the response payload very easily. You can also create a Team workspace t share requests and even entire collections across your team boosting reusability of your API automation.
