Outsystems and Futuresystems
What do you like best about the product?
The platform is, quite frankly, amazing at what it is says it does. It is a strong and capable tool for enabling a very intuitive development environment, over which both small and sharp, as well as large and still efficient applications can be designed. In my honest opinion, the strongest selling point of Outsystems is that it removes from developers the need to do a lot of background coding, putting together a strong suit of features focused on nurturing the creative spirit of the development process
What do you dislike about the product?
The integration studio and its relationship with the development service studio is not as easily understood for a still novice user, as is my case.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mostly HR and contact center related business applications. The fast deployment of new outsystems application versions enables fast response to contact centers requirements.

What do you like best about the product?
Very easy to use, allows a complete novice to enter the IT world and make great apps in a very fast and rather simply way.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometime it can be very tricky to understand what is the errors that the system signals, specially in the service center monitoring screen. Also it can be difficult to use JavaScript since the the field of input looks just like a string where we don't have any feedback for the code.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am currently improving and doing maintenance for an already in use app, two year old, that process timesheets for company and client employees, and their salary processing also. The app is made in avery tricky and confused way, the lack of proper documentation process or a very simple and direct way to see the relation of all the eSpaces in use.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
See the films of who fast and easy it is to do an app.
Amazing
What do you like best about the product?
Being a special snowflake in software engineering by not being so fond of coding lines of code, Outsystems is a dream come true. I can focus on functionality and delivering results rather than spending hours searching for how I sholuld do this and that.
What do you dislike about the product?
Since I've only started to work with Outsystems 8 months ago, there isn't much I could dislike, For now, at platform 9 is the time a publish takes to get to the Done status and refreshing all references through a bunch of e-spaces.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am migrating aspx.net code to Outsystems and I've noticed how quickly and neatly one can make a simple change and put it online for testing/production, etc.
Fast Low code generation platform that enables quality products
What do you like best about the product?
Takes care of the small details with code generation as well as optimization and security best practices
What do you dislike about the product?
Old Platform monitoring tool that makes it difficult to get additional information at request level
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
That it is easier to change and maintain code faster.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Best tool to change code without breaking old code
A real joy to develop with.
What do you like best about the product?
How easy and fast it is to create even the most complex applications.
What do you dislike about the product?
The documentation and practical examples could be a bit better.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
How to deliver enterprise grade apps with ever shorter budgets and smaller deadlines.
Quick and easy to spin up simple CRUD screens.
What do you like best about the product?
I love the flexibility the Studio environment provides, allowing you rename elements at will and have it propagate across your entire solution. It does a fantastic job of knowing what you probably want to do, an intelligent of sorts, that makes developing fast and easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some things that you would expect to be simple end up being difficult or simply not included within the suite. Fortunately there is a robust community that shares code that you can easily install.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Consolidating the shadow IT work that's been accumulating and going unsupported throughout the company into one central location. Replacing legacy systems with a much nicer user experience. Quickly delivering usable product.
An excellent platform
What do you like best about the product?
Think of purchasing OutSystems' as buying a high powered Internet Systems team "in a box". OutSystems has done all the work required for website framework for application developers; build, compilation, deployment, database, database binding, monitoring, user administration, etc.
What I like the best is the platform enables a developer to focus on the application's data model, screens, and workflows and less on the underlying technology [although it's important]. For example, basing an application on OutSystems' SilkUI allows a developer to easily create beautiful response websites.
The True Change technology is great because it ensures an application is not uploaded to the internet server unless data is properly bound. The built in database integration allows a developer to quickly create a data model to build their application on.
Lastly, the built in deployment process makes application life cycle management easy as a click of a button. Deployment includes the application [including web services] and database.

What do you dislike about the product?
Well, all companies have to make money, but the software units model can limit the number of applications developed on the platform. It's not easy to guesstimate the amount needed.

Business problems:
Develop in house applications.
Benefits:
Developers like the system because they can focus on solving the application
Team velocity has doubled
Users love the application look, feel, and responsiveness.
System is stable

Great platform for beginners and experts
What do you like best about the product?
Speed of development and ease of integration with existing platforms. As someone who has spent a career in IT, but never been a "developer", I was able to create a fairly complex application that seamlessly integrates with our existing databases.
True Change is pretty amazing - you make a change in one place and it corrects it in other areas of your application.

What do you dislike about the product?
The software usage in the pricing model is a bit difficult to understand. Forecasting the software usage/consumption of a new project is not easy to do.
The support forum is a user community. While it is a great resource, if it is your only means of finding an answer to a problem it can take too long to get an answer.

We replaced a paper volunteer application with an online version. The time required to complete the application was reduced from days to hours. As a non-profit that needs more than 1,000 volunteers per year to staff our mission, this was a huge step forward in our recruiting process.

Simple but does the job
What do you like best about the product?
What I like the most is how rapidly you can deliver products to the customer, especially if you have to make some modifications or changes to the program. Our customers have been really impressed with how fast we deliver and I think that is one of the things that the customer feels the most.
Working with the Outsystems platform is also great. It is easy to use, especially since everything is so visual, and that makes it easy for the programmer to read through the project and for others to see what is going on.
The Outsystems community is also very good, if i post a question or a problem on the forum i usually I get a response within days, I have also been using the Forge a lot, getting ideas and supportapps for my projects.

What do you dislike about the product?
Because some parts, for example operations and functions, are so well encapsulated it is sometimes hard to do certain things the way you knew before. But usually I just have to look the problem up on the forum and there I find the answer.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have been working several different projects. On one project the app is mainly used out in the field where users are gathering information using mobile devices. That project was fairly simple, the project was assigned on Wednesday and I delivered the app 95% ready 2 days later.
What I see as a benefit for the customer is that you can deliver the product quickly and at development time you can show the customer the product on screen, meaning that you are not showing the customer just a code but they are getting something to look at that they understand and can relate to.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Outsystems offers a great variety of courses to take and webinars to attend to and I would recommend to anyone, who is interested in the platform, to take the advantage of that.
It can also be good to take a look at the apps that have been published to the Forge page to see how things have been done and get ideas.

The best RAD and Agile tool on the market
What do you like best about the product?
It's easy to get started, and easy to get more experienced in. As an experienced developer, it doesn't hold you back though, you can do almost everything you could also do by handcrafting C# or JavaScript. It also allows you extending the Platform by writing C# or Java and JavaScript.
Most of the nasty details of AJAX and REST are safely hidden from view, giving you a very versatile but easy to master development tool for day to day use. It is by far the most productive tool I've worked with, and I've worked with some. I also love that the Platform outputs C# or Java and uses MSSQL and Oracle instead of using proprietary stuff, so it scales easily by using conventional server configurations.
OutSystems also offers free (yes FREE!) access to a personal development environment in the cloud to learn how to use the platform and develop your own apps. They have an active forum where users can meet and ask questions, and a very good support team.
Last but not least, the Platform continues to evolve. OutSystems is quick to embrace new technologies, whether it is AJAX, REST or responsive design, and enhances and improves both the capabilities of its Platform and their development tools by releasing new versions once or twice a year. And what's more: they listen to their users! Many feature requests that started out as ideas in the user community have been implemented to make the Platform even better.

What do you dislike about the product?
If anything, it's the steep licence costs. A medium to large business would not find it insurmountable, but small business can likely forget to use the OutSystems Platform, especially since a licence for either Windows, IIS and MSSQL or Oracle is also needed. I've seen many IT professionals getting excited by the Platform and what it has to offer, but being downright disappointed when they heard the licensing fees.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
All of them. My company uses the Platform for all of its business needs, safe for finances and the company web site. So that means sales, sourcing, CRM, billing and (e-)invoicing, intrabranch communications, and our customer portal. Benefits realized are the quick time to market (we have a 2-week delivery cycle), and the speed with which new, complex projects are targeted and delivered.
